Spite and Witches are dangerous alone, and criminally strong together.
You are a very bad man and I would like to subscribe to your newsletter.
Yeah, that's the best way to approach Eidolons. They're supposed to be surreal, mind-bending tests of ingenuity.
Extremely glad you didn't go deep into Eidolons. Really think they are best "figured out" and while I like my players reading the books like I do, I don't think any player should read too much of wallflower if they ever intend on playing it. Hell I haven't read 85% of Wallflower cause my friend might run it, and I'm like the perma DM for my group.
Yeah, I really appreciated that too! Plus we get some good fridge humour for players that eventually learn.
Avenger: A good surprise to place in a combat with grunts supporting a core team of NPCs. Commander is highly recommended in such a scenario.
Lurker: Can be a headache to your players in any combat with tight terrain or close quarters, but don't be too gung-ho about using them in objective-based SITREPs. Elite, Veteran, and Ultra are good ways to make it harder to dislodge.
Strider: Not much to say about this one other than the obvious: It fits into almost any SITREP you can dream up. Go for an Elite+Veteran version if you want to portray its pilot as someone who has seen it all. And probably blown it up. You can even change its loadout between appearances to keep your players on their toes.
Spite: Unless your player's whole squad is geared for heat management, even a Grunt Spite is going to be a huge pain in their ass. Fair warning, making them fight an Ultra Spite may earn you a punch in the face. Brace accordingly.
Eidolon: These are Mission-defining threats. Use with caution.
I like the idea of having a reoccurring Elite+Veteran Strider NPC antagonist that becomes the Wolf to your player's Star Fox.
*Avenger:* Its main gimmick requires them to be nearby their allies, so it makes the most sense to station them in sitreps that will start your NPCs in a centralized location (gauntlet or recon). They aren't slow, so they _can_ get into position to potentially leverage their vengeance mechanics, but they obviously make a whole lot more sense as initial deployment units rather than backup.
*Lurker:* Joining the ranks of the likes of Demolisher and Pyro as NPC classes that can potentially be misconstrued as low-mobility short-ranged jokes. That aside however, they can be extremely sturdy in their clouds, and dangerous strikes in close-quarters, and repeat deployments of Lurkers allows the new ones to potentially leverage the previous Lurker's shrouds as travel basis. They obviously work best in holdouts.
*Strider:* A mechanically dense Artillery that Comp/Con can't keep up with, the key with Strider is that it works best on large maps, because at the end of the day the Strider is extremely mobile, and should use its moves to maneuver itself into optimal ranges to use a given kit. Otherwise it's just serving as a weaker Sniper/Breacher.
*Spite:* A fitting name. It's yet another extremely slow defender, but it's backed up by its massive sensor range, making it work like a big hacking artillery that wants to see your reactor explode, rather than your hull explode. It heavily emphasizes immobilizing enemies, while keeping itself fairly still as well, so this makes it a pretty natural fit for missions like Gauntlet, Recon, or Escort as an initial deployment.
*Eidolon:* Run 'em only after you're sure you've carefully read every. single. very. specific. rule. that each layer type lays out. Otherwise both the GM and Players will be equally confused.
Wow I already feel like close proximity to eidolon is going to cause everyone's bodily fluids to do a little dance as skin turns to shifting mercurial powder against it's unknowable presence.
RA I love it.

My lancer campaigns' done... but I still really enjoyed watching this.
Out of curiosity, do you ever plan on picking this series back up to cover the other expansion NPCs? I know the upcoming Winter Scar campaign has a really interesting NPC type within it, but I also understand a majority of expansion NPCs are still in Wallflower alone.
Something to keep in mind when using Spites: when they use their primary ability, they self-immobilize, and they can't voluntarily stop using it. Be careful with your terrain placement, or you may end up with a Spite stuck behind a wall with no one to see and nothing to do. I've seen this happen to Spites twice in one mission on Interpoint (though to be fair, the PC team had a Sunzi on it that mission, which made it harder to avoid).
I feel like you practically need to buy Wallflower for the NPCs.
It's such a joy to see so many custom works used for your lively illustrations! And though this can go without saying, I feel it must be said anyway: amazing video, once again!
Ooh yay it’s here
One NPC combo I'm really wanting to run is a Mirage and a Spite. Spite can't move itself once its doing its thing and has little defense, but a Mirage can make it invisible and move it. Have the Spite attack as a quick action and then hide on its turn, then have the mirage teleport it somewhere the players don't know. At the very least they have to waste time finding the Spite.
5:32 Eidolon compilation video.
Need 24 hour loop of same. :)
GOOD NEWS EVERYBODY! 2 new npc types in the newest book
Just in time for me to start a wallflower campaign
I was pretty confused by most of the Eidolon example clips until I actually read what the layers do. Still not sure I get the Tempest one, but that could just be a function of not being familiar with the anime.
The Fundamental clip was the most confusing, and the funniest once the context is known.
The joke with tempest is that two players have to sit next to it awkwardly to counter its shield.
I do hope you do Suldan NPC's eventually but this was a welcome one. :D
Serious Sam reference lol
What if my BBEG for the campaign was two ultra avengers?
Also is it cool if I give "bosses" talents?
No, you get optional systems for that. Giving NPC talents or anything from player side is a really bad idea
Make sure they are different colors, like the Red and Blue Oni of legend.
Where did you get the KD tokens for this? I don't see any packs for it on itch.
Check the pinned comment for the google drive link
Quick q! What npcs do you like using for your first encounters?
Do you think you'll do a bestiary for Suldan at some point to accompany your mini-series on its mechs? I'd like to here some assessment of it
Probably not going to any time soon in the future.
Recently fought my first Eidolon. We had to deal with 8 layers and 4 Ultras on top of that.
What level were you
6:28 thats an idea a mobile armor enemy that uses the eidolon as a template? what do you think dragon?
It's better to just use Ultra pattern for that, and maybe use NPC classes as phases between structures.
@@11dragonkid11 its gotta be something big something HUGE what are the biggest npc classes?
@@solemnjohnson570 You can always just make the NPC size 4 yourself instead of picking Goliath all the time.
@@11dragonkid11 love the end music. whats it called?
nevermind found it thanks for putting it in the description.
