    Technically, "Anatomical Pathology" should have been first on our alphabetical list of specialties but finding accurate information on salary in that field is a little challenging. We'll double back for it as soon as possible 🔬

    Hi thank you for the great video - I have a question - I I am a IMG an I really want to sit my anaesthesiology board exams in Canada - I have my training recognised but I need to get the board exams - canadian that is . Ive been searching EVERYWHERE for MCQ Q banks from the canadian board exams or the SAQs but theres nothing I can find - website or books.... -I was just wondering how the residents prepare? do they use the US board Q banks because I understand the exams srategies are quite different - I did the UK boards and thats completely different too. So if you have any guidance as to where I can find mca or saq q banks Id be grateful!!! Caroline

    • @nxtgenmd
      @nxtgenmd  2 роки тому +2

      Hi Caroline, glad the video helped somewhat :) Unfortunately I don't know much about the anesthesia board exam preparations specifically as its above my level at the moment. My advice would be to look through this website for any relevant details or find someone currently interested in sitting the Canadian anesthesiology board exams.

    Great idea to highlight the options. I have a question, does Canada have nurse anesthesists like the US does? Is anesthesiologist in the OR all the time.
    LOL the only time you get to have a one-on-one with your patient is a few minutes before surgery.

    • @nxtgenmd
      @nxtgenmd  2 роки тому +2

      Thanks Jeanette :) We have a position here called "anesthesiologist assistant" which requires additional training after a standard nursing training program. They're able to handle most routine anesthesiology situations by themselves but must be supervised by an MD anesthesiologist (from my understanding).
      No anesthesiologists aren't always found in the OR - they can also be seen in pain clinics, assisting in the ICU, in the emergency department, and on OB/GYN wards 🤙
      LOL exactly, and then if you do your job right, they don't remember you when you wake up.

    • @jeanetteraichel8299
      @jeanetteraichel8299 2 роки тому +2

      @@nxtgenmd I meant when the anesthesiologist is on a case in the OR, do they stay in the OR the whole time (unless relieved for a break)?

    • @nxtgenmd
      @nxtgenmd  2 роки тому

      @@jeanetteraichel8299 Yes, they typically sit at the head of the patient bed and will fill out intra-operative paper work when there isn't an adjustment for them to make to the patient (unless they are relieved for a break / to go somewhere else).

    Now that Canadian med schools don't have standardised tests like USMLE. how do residencies choose applicants?

    • @nxtgenmd
      @nxtgenmd  2 роки тому +1

      Great question 🤙 you can see from my residency application video that the sections on our applications revolve moreso around qualitative metrics and not about test scores. Canadian medical schools are all exclusively pass/fail at this point I believe so there really aren't any sections for grades either. The biggest factors involved are strong reference letters, your CV, the electives you've done and the formal evaluation comments that are written at the end of every clerkship rotation. Also, the personal essays are very important in the pre-interview selection process.

    Hi ,great video !!! Can u please give some idea about anesthesiology residency routine .. like, do they have 36 hour shifts

    • @nxtgenmd
      @nxtgenmd  2 роки тому

      Hi Carmel :) I wish I could give you more information but I unfortunately don't have a copy of the program breakdown. 24 hour shifts are common in many residencies and rotations. 36 hours are less common but do still occur

    • @nxtgenmd
      @nxtgenmd  2 роки тому

      Hey Piku, fortunately anesthesiology is one of the specialties that pay very low overhead. In this case, they would take home more than 1/3 (exception to the rule of thirds). Best to assume around 225K on average without taking into consideration anything that your accountant can help you with 🤙

    • @nxtgenmd
      @nxtgenmd  2 роки тому +1

      Hi :) Please see my video on international applicants coming to Canada to work. There are a few different changes. One of which being that you will need to write the required exams before* applying to the match - which is the not the case for Canadian trained applicants. Also, check with physicians apply.ca directly for the most up to date information.
      Goodluck!
