How amusing. 160k specially made rally car vs a 8k stock bike straight out the show room. Lol.
Just like a $18k BMW S1000RR is faster then a 800k super car. Bikes are just more superior because of power to weight ratio and the balance of the bike
AirsoftWarfareHD depend of the road
+AirsoftWarfareHD right it is t rue
+AirsoftWarfareHD if this is true , wht dont the bikes win daker outright ? even the trucks have .
+240zee lol do you think they run in the same class? Bikes Quads Cars and Trucks. Really?
easily one of the best sounding NA 240z's ive heard
I get the Datsun, it is a proper man's car not like a toy Escort. I would love to have that 240Z sitting in my garage.
Re-run. I want to see a Bowler and the KTM on s/moto tyres.
would be the same result, the bowler wouldn't be that much faster than the evo, but the bike would a hell of a lot faster
paul torton
Don't care. I just want to see it because I think it would be cool.
hung huge
Damn that Datsun sounds good.
If you didnt take every single corner backwards with that angle maybe you could have shaved of a few seconds of that evos lap time...I don't feel like you gave it a proper go for this time attack. Nice seeing the datsun though!
Fu Pootube Then you're left with the possibility of crawling over the jump. That would have been even slower. The point is that the Evo was not set up for a jump. Without the right suspension, it would have broken the car. What would you have said to the owner then after returning the car at the end of a test? "Uuuh, sorry, a bit hard on the landing. Here's your Evo back [in bits]..."
The EVO was handed back to me fully working.. However the tyres were looking a bit sorry for themselves! Good fun!
Some trolls are idiots. You have one car in the video with softer suspension setup exactly for this jump. You have another with road suspension (NOT rally suspension) and you're saying he should fly over the jump and dump the car. You're an idiot. Go do that to your own car. Whether he could have executed it slightly better is irrelevant. Its about the impact on the car when it lands. This ain't Dukes of Hazard troll?!
So that's your thing is it? Trolling? OK keyboard warrior. I'm not playing your game. For anyone else who wants to know why he didn't take the jump, the likelihood is that the car was not set up for a jump course. Group N, WRC, whatever the class - all rally cars are set up for the conditions. So one set up for a Swedish rally would not have the same set-up for corsica. Its likely he was told to take it easy over the jumps to protect the car.
rallyclubman If you are the owner of the evo that was cool of you to lend the car. If I owned that car I would be having a panoc attack watching someone else rag it around that track.
Oh well the Lan Evo may have lost, but im still screaming Lan Evo FTW!
I seriously doubt a 450 Enduro has 66HP. More like 45. And Maxxis tires aren't noted for being the best of the best tires. So the win is all the more impressive. (500cc 2 strokes were typically around 55- 60hp, stock.)
I caught that too. I think the chp for the 450 is 53, I have read whp numbers around 47. (The 66hp number is for the 690 KTM.) When they said 66hp, I figured the bike had major engine work to compete with the Evo, but it appears to be 100% stock...
it has 56 crank horsepower depending on the year
haha this was so fun to watch! The way he was taking those corners with the Knobby tires on the KTM made me clench lol. I wonder what time a proper rally driver would have put in with the EVO? All of these vehicles would be blast to ride/drive!
Damn that reporter is so lucky being able to drive a rally-ready Evo 6 ;-;
That exhaust is epic!! Almost sounds like a miura
Loving your video's guys. As a biker who loves his cars (In the motor trade) its great seeing these. Keep them going!
I hope the car guys want a rematch. I just want to see what crazy mad max stuff they come up with...
What a brilliant comparison and video. Best of all, its not really about the times - that;s just a footnote - the big message is what FUN you can get from all sorts of vehicles. Riding on the dirt is so much fun, but I'd also give a testicle to go proper rallying!
I'm sure different courses would've brought out each machines strengths but that Datsun is simply amazing. Would be totally at home in the Mexican desert.
Oh, that Evo sounds amazing!
Thank you!! 👍
Why didn't the EXT have supermoto tires on? The Evo was using track tires so I don't understand why not
thats just what i thought ... this course was just a perfekt supermoto course..
Because this was a motocross course. Albeit it was mostly a tarmac course so neither the bike nor the Datsun suited it. Even the Evo, which was more road focussed, wasn't set up for motorcross. But it was fun wasn't it?
Always good to see exposure of Datsuns! By the way this car is a 280z not a 240z.
Imagine if it was a race prepped supermoto! With big brakes, few more ponies and cut slicks! :}}
Anyway it seems this was the last video in the series... I hope not!
This is absolutely excellent.
great shoots !
Wow! That KTM was crazy, he was practically drifting.
What about Keith Black and his Escort vs the KTM ?
absolute coolness. thanks evo
Not a 240z, unless they changed the rear taillight trim on purpose, 260 or 280z.
Great concept, keep it up!
Excellent, excellent video! Proper petrol head stuff, thanks very much! I would have barfed my guts out if I'd been a passenger in that Datsun, well done Jethro...
Another good video, can't help thinking though, never mind which is better, just go and get yourself a bike licence and try both!
Nice vid, the title is wrong though, it's an EXC, not EXT.
17" front and rear with street tires would have made this even further apart.
The cars got whooped big time in this battle, nevertheless amazingly entertaing to watch.
I'd still take the Datsun, despite it being slower. The 240z is my dream car. My dream *first* car. I am currently saving up for one - but they aren't cheap. About $6K for one that has shabby paintwork, and quite a bit of rust. I don't care that it's dangerous, old, or rust-prone. I'd still sell my soul for one.
Dr. Weird do you know what year this model is?
breilliant video!
What are those hand guards(?) on the KTM for?
That 240Z, car porn!
They look so fun when they drive!
Interesting, it appears 'DanSport' have imported a USA spec 280Z to base the build on.
LHD & later model (260Z onwards) taillights give the game away (as well as a few other things) to it NOT being a 240Z.
Testament to how awesome off-road bikes are 😉 but a good rider definitely helps!
I wonder if a supermoto setup would have been better on this course.
listen to 6:19
Would've been a lot better, but hey, it still won on knobbies so i'm not complaining!
Absolutely. I'd love to see it too.
HyperLeafBlower
tjon901 a dual sports setup would be the best.
Great video but cant take it seriously.
You have a pro champion rider on one of his favorite machines vs a journalist (no offense) in a car he has never driven before.
The skill of the rider/driver makes a massive difference, probably at least 4 seconds between an amateur and a top pro (if not more)
Come on man it was a stock 47whp off-road bike on knobbies- on a smooth, mostly paved course with one little jump. The car was a derestricted, tarmac group N Evolution. There is very little south of a million dollars more bad ass than that car.
To make the race any more favorable to the car you'd have to get an out of tune BSA Bantam with bare rims on a course made out of greased cattle grates and ridden by a drunk blind man. i.ytimg.com/vi/KOvkfSZ65Xo/hqdefault.jpg
britishbikes BSA
It depends how drunk the rider is :)
But in reality a woman in a diesel transit van was as fast round Nurburgring as Clarkson was in a new Jag, so the skills of the driver do make a bit of difference.
M3Conv Seemed like the Evo spent way too much time going sideways... I think you have a point.
I think his estimate is waaayyyyyyyyyyyy off on the Datsun. I knew a few guys hitting 200mph in Datsuns who have spent fractions of 180k
that bike does not have 66 horse power. more like mid 50's. The factory motocross teams struggle to squeeze that much power out of their bikes... get it right folks
+eden lawton they do dyno test the bikes they do have over 60hp but it depends on how they built the engine sohc engine can have the same power as a dohc with less weight
A cr500 two stroke has 65 mate... they are getting their dyno tests wrong...
eden lawton why would ktm lie your dumb if it was not puting out the over 60hp they will get a fucking law suit if they lied you dont think do you if my bike did 70hp but it put out 40hp ile get a lawsuit and get shut down
learn how to speak fucking English. Don't call me dumb, I know what Im talking about (I ride) and you don't know shit about bikes you fucking keyboard warrior.
just looked at your channel, your talking shit to everyone on youtube. Get a fucking life
shoulda put supermoto tires on that 450
Can someone explain to me why the body position is so different when going round corners on a supermoto compared to a sports bike.
Grip and center of gravity. Enduro like KTM is a bit high of the ground and narrow, so cornering is way different. It is made for lose surface, which explain a lot on itself :D
You sit low on a sport bike so that while cornering you can lower your center of gravity and keep the bike at an optimal lean angle maximizing grip on the tarmac. A Supermoto/MX bike puts you in a upright seated position. Instead of dropping your head and shoulder into the turn like a sport bike, s sumo/mx rider uses his leg to transfer weight thru the turns. Plus the bike is so light, it's easier to throw it around than to throw your body into the turn like on a sport bike. BUT...lately more and more pro-sport bike racers have been using supermoto(tarmac) riding to stay fresh in between racing rounds. They all strayed away from MX because of the injuries pros were picking up during training. While on a supermoto they retain their riding style of head/shoulder/knee down into the turns. Only on tarmac of course. I do it too myself on my Husqavarna 450 SMR. Because I have no dirt experience, I'm more comfortable riding it like a sport bike. You can see what I mean on my IG feed @adeysworld. I have pics of me riding a Husqavarna 450 SMR and a Ducati Hypermotard like a sport bike. This style can't be applied to dirt surfaces, only leg out will allow you to negotiate the turn properly without crashing. Hope this made sense, I'm not much of a wordsmith. lol
Most GP road courses are fast, so the low clipons and high rearsets are optimal for aerodynamic reasons. The dirt bike riding position and the technique work best at speeds under about 80mph, more leverage from the wide bars, better peg loctation for jumps and whoops, but harder to steer from a full tuck.
Adeysworld offers the best answer but not quite, or I'll add a little. Upright riding position? Check. High centre of gravity? Check. In addition to that, it has to do with the surface mostly. Street/sportsbikes require mostly smooth inputs to maximise speed. Changes of direction at speed don't require you to manhandle the bike. But obviously on loose surfaces the bike will move around a lot more. The upright position helps this because many more steering inputs and corrections are needed. This is characterised by sitting almost on top of the front wheel, with wide bars which give excellent leverage.
Now, from this position, you can really get the great changes of direction you need on loose, slower surfaces. As a result, it would destabilise the bike more if the rider was moving about a la sportsbike style, because the steering inputs would be affected. So to keep stability, the rider stays as stable as possible, almost becoming a part of the suspension. Maintaining a good centre of gravity is crucial to this stability - so you'll see a lot of dirtbikers staying as upright and close to the tank as possible, even in the turns.
Finally, as pointed out, the bikes are so light that they really can be manhandled a bit more. The leg out style is either just that - style - in some cases or, when used properly, gives the rider that extra bit of leverage when going around tight turns. In the same way the sporstbiker uses the knee to gauge the angle of lean and help stabilise the bike in the turn, the dirtbiker uses the bike itself to provide that leverage in the turn (which has that typical counterweight appearance) then uses the leg as extra insurance in case the angle of the lean is too severe.
In simple terms, all bikes can be ridden in both ways - either with the bike more upright and the rider using the bodyweight to help the turn (Sportsbike) or with the rider more upright and the bike levered into the turn. I've seen supermotos being ridden on road using the dirtbike style, although its less common to see someone on dirt using a sportsbike style, probably because of the ergonomics of a sportsbike.
love the sound of this
Surely a supermotard would be way more appropriate for this track?
Why would you use a cutting edge tech off road bike against stone-age car?
Would it not have made more sense (and a closer race) to use something like a Mitsi EVO running off road tyres and ?
Love the Datsun and i am sure its bombproof but for this type of course it looked incredibly slowwwww.
Lol, $200K+ racecar vs $9k stock dirtbike on friggin knobbies on a mostly paved track and you think the test was bias towards the bikes!?! What!
Should have they deflated the tires on the bike and make the rider drink a bottle of vodka 10 min before the race to make it "fair" for you?
You are being ridiculous!
mocioclistu
Yeah that might have made it slightly closer contest.
A JCB can cost $200K and is designed for off road but i don't rate its chances against a off road bike.
Maybe a $20K EVO or similar would have been a better match if you have a problem with the price difference.
I enjoyed seeing the old Datsun as much as anyone, however it was hardly fast in these conditions despite its cost to build. looked a bit like a bouncy castle fixed on top of a tractor.
M3Conv Did you watch the video till the end? They did race it against an EVO that look like it was worth quite a bit more than $20K and it still whooped its ass.
mocioclistu
Haha no actually, thanks!
Interesting, wonder how close it would be with a pro champion rally driver at the wheel to match the pro moto champion on the bike?
Never seen Jethro drive a rally car before...don't give up your day job would be my advice.
should have brought a Group A car (just kidding it's a great video)
the rally class I want to race prevents me from going over 2.6 liters. I need to get that sort of power out of a tiny L24 Engine for my z car.
Bring them to Kenya to do the East African Safari classic stages and see if the bike wins.Go Datsun
Deepak Dodhia the bike would do even better on a stage so good luck
So much fun :)
66hp???? i would believe 56hp, but 66 seams for me way to much
Not for a factory spec engine.
strange, because a year before it was stated on the ktm homepage, that factory speced 450 has 58hp. i had a tuned ktm 550 2stroke and i know how much is the additional 10hp+ beyond 60hp for a dirtbike. i simply can not believe that its 66hp, but i heard a lot of times stating that 450 has 75hp and 505 like 85hp but its not true at all i think. possibly the 66hp was measured in this situation, but the drivetrain loss was badly calculated
rlaci My 2013 ktm 450sx has 60 horses bone stock. The factory race bikes have modified heads, cams and exhaust systems. This is how they yeild 66hp.
E46MRider It is EXC not SX: If they were gonna mod the bike they would have started by getting rid of the off-road rims and tires and put on 17" motard rims, lowered the suspension about 2" and put on a bigger front brake. The bike looks 100% stock if you compare it to KTM website pics. I mean bone stock- plastic, tires, exhaust- everything. 4:15 ; www.ktm.com/gb/enduro/450-exc-eu/highlights.html#.VG1sfPnF-uc
Best EXC numbers I could find: 47-48whp actually from 450 XC-W enduro. 66chp is what KTM advertises for the 690.
On the Google search page it looks like 66hp is for the 450 but if you actually open the KTM site they do not advertise hp for the 450's. I think that is how they go the 66hp number for the 450.
britishbikes BSA SX and EXC have the same exact engines, the only difference is heavier flywheel and endure specific edu mapping on the exc.Top end HP is the same for both sx and exc.KTM advertises on their website 60HP(crank) for the SX.So getting another 6HP from these motors is nothing, hell you can get another 2-3HP by using VP oxygenated race fuel on a otherwise stock motor, add a more aggressive cam and exhaust and 66 Crank HP is easily attainable. This dude races professionally,I'm sure the bike is spiced up a bit and 66HP is very beliavable.
That bike is amazing but those fucking tires on the road are stupid.
But the bike can't take your girl home in the rain. ;)
well I do anyways... it makes her wet
Neither can those racecars. Plus is not like us motorcyclists don't own 4wheels, for groceries, girlfriends and taking motorcycles to the track. Motorbikes are for going fast!
The evo can definitely still take your girlfriend home in the rain... Not a very graceful entrance/exit though
But it's sure a lot more fun and a bigger turn on in the dry (from my experience taking the mrs on the back anyway)
The hell it can't.
Andy beats on the shifter. Watch any drive on a race track today with the original Z driver John Morton he is so much smother shifting. His Z' s last. This guy is used to modern hardware. Just saying .
Not even a comparison. I dont see why they didn't put super moto tires on the bike. Would have been way faster.
Agreed dirt tires on the street are scary.
This one doesn't make much sense... with an enduro bike you can go where a car can't even imagine of being. Racing enduro bikes are not about pure speed in the common sense. I would like to see the datsun at the erzberg lol
If you had a crf450r with super too tires and an amazing rider you could get under a minute.
+letsplay2day Supermoto tires.
Why not put super moto tyres on the bike? It only takes 15 min or so.
Come on man, the cars already looked bad enough... Be like beating a dead horse.
dat plot twist dow...
FIRST!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Great Video!!!
Awesome!
ill take the 240z anyday over the others
too bad it aint turbo or else it would have had an advantage
260z tailights on a 240??
theres no way a 450 exc makes 66 horses even the aprillia sxv is only just around 70 with an extra cylinder and an extra 100 cc maybe the 450 sxf could make 66 horses but not an exc
Pretty sure this is either a 260z or 280z because of the rear lights, they have like a frame around them that the 240z doesnt have. The engine looks like its fuel injected as well which implies its a L28E which would point towards the 280z.
Pointless race comparison, but fun motors in the correct environment. Go KTM..
the ktm should have been the sx model they have a bit more power and a bit faster.
the sx isnt faster
it has a different gear ratio not by much the exc is enduro and the sx is motocross so the sx is a bit faster
+WeRideLikeThis my brother's ktm sx has a Max speed of 90kmh my exc six days reaches 130kmh
really no mods, same year, same cc cause the sx will normally beat it by a few kmph
+WeRideLikeThis All depends on the gearing. My 450 exc is geared 15-45 and has a higher top speed since KTM SX are geared higher for more acceleration and torque.
If you want to see this evo VI on the stages check out our incar footage on my page!! Or Instagram/Facebook @gibsonmotorsport
I don't get the Datsun at all, why spend 180-190k on a classic rally car when you have established cars like the mk1 escorts that would be much faster for 25% of the datsun
Maybe because they *like* the Datsun? Car ownership doesn't have to be about the most statistically optimised choice, it can be all about whichever car makes you *feel* something.
alphaprawns yeah I get that 100% but not when it costs a huge amount more than other more competitive cars. I seen something similar a while back where someone took a Porsche gt3 rallying against wrc cars, the thing cost 3-4 times as much and was 1 min a stage slower. if your going to compete then use the best equipment
I believe the owner of the Datsun actually used to own a Ford Focus WRC car but obviously decided to return to a different style of racing.
Chronic Youth obviously the focus wrc wouldn't be able to race in a classic rally. the Datsun I don't see being competitive against its competition and especially for the price
paul torton Sorry misunderstood your original comment bout opting to choose the best equipment across the board, not just in its class. I don't know enough about classic rallying so will take your word on it that it's not a contender.
Why is this car so unpopular?
this car races in my countries east african safari rally
the bike kill the car>> and it does it to people too..(more than cars does)
bowler that is what you must had to play
Like I said:" Catch me if you can ! " Suckers !! KTM Rules !!!
190k is bs. I can buy a 240z mint condition where I live for 5 grand usd, then put 10 grand in parts including the roll cage, taller suspension, and injectors. we also have the dirt phish rally school in my backyard so I can learn to race proper for 5k. in all we are looking at less than 30k and I have a badass rally car I'm able to drive.
pounds and dollars are close enough that 30k doesn't equal fucking 190k.
Dylan McCallister lol you idiot, engine is 40k for a start
66Hp ?
That z is awesome
This comparison is even worse than street bike vs car. God damnit.
Oh of course.. because bringing a $190.000 rally car plus a rally-prepared Evo 6 versus a stock $9.000 bike (with road legal tyres) that anyone can buy at your local KTM dealer is totally unfair :')...
DoubleYouPee1 To be fair, Motorbike vs Car isn't fair to begin with once you take pricing into account. Motorbikes are MUCH cheaper because there's MUCH less components. Hell, you could build a go cart for 5k that would beat just about any car around a track.
Except you can't really ride a go cart on the road :). While you can ride a KTM supermoto on the road and then take it to the track.
Price:fun/performance ratio is a really strong argument for riding a bike.
It always seems (also here) that car enthusiasts think 'bikers' are people who don't like cars.
In fact most bikers are just performance and/or pistonheads and love both. However most people can't afford a Porsche 911 so you spend as low as $2k on a bike and go just as fast and having just as much fun.
Look if you are like the presenter of this episode and can drive awesome cars on a weekly basis it's understandable..even still, he's missing out :).
It's not bad, why shall it be bad?! And btw. it's not really a competition, there is nothing to win or lose, all those videos are for fun only. Do you know what fun is? Did you ever had ... fun?
DoubleYouPee1 Cars and bikes are very different, personally I love cars because I love cars, not because I love going fast. I've always imagined most people who ride bikes, and use the more performance for your money argument (which is obviously true) love to go fast for the most part, some would say "adrenaline junkies".
Apposed to a car, which is about much more than being a rocket ship for the street. There's obviously exceptions, but that's how I view the whole "car vs bike" thing, neither is better than the other, they're just very different machines that accomplish similar goals, choose which one you prefer.
I think that this is a 260Z
That looks like it's 260 or 280
What exactly is a dog gearbox?
www.google.com.br/search?q=dog+gearbox&oq=dog+gearbox&aqs=chrome..69i57&sourceid=chrome&es_sm=122&ie=UTF-8
Gearbox with straight cut gears.
Box with a dog in it. Pretty self explanatory really!
UHPdriver that's actually a misconception
Mudux
What do you mean by misconception? He's correct. The gears are cut straight to make them stronger.
240z or 280z
Oh yes and you need serious balls to ride the bike...
K to the T to the M.......
Que poder =) !!!
