Ahhhh.... The 80's, I'm glad I was born then(1984). I haven't got the FULL taste of it, but I got some good taste of the good ol' 80's. I miss those glory days where people know how to have fun with music, movies, cartoons and T.V. shows, etc. The 80's culture actually brought people, friends and families together and have a good time.

I was driving down the 110 towards USC, this was going to be my first time in LA. As I approached the enormous skyscrapers in downtown this song came on. Really set the tone for my adventure :)
Thomas's bass varies in pitch from far up and down the pole, it is very distinct, probably my favorite part of the song, what drew my attention when I was like 12 in the car to the skating rink. he's as good a basser as a singer.
At least talent was required in the 80's, unlike the stars of today like Ms. Spears and LIttle Miss Cyrus...can't believe kids think these two can sing! Long live the 80's!
hahaha! my friend and i, when we were about 14, back in 2000 used to get high and watch VH1 classic videos, mainly to crack us up. this one was by far one of the best!! we still get high and watch it and crack up. fucking eighties!

If you listen to the lyrics then read between the lines, one must question if they where talking about our government and tyranny? On the surface, it could seem as its a song to a lying GF, and it makes sense, but poetry and art have certain ambiguous qualities that leave the composers work open to higher understanding. Its the beauty of metaphor here, that enables me to say this.
people also need to remember that mtv was new at this, and most of the videos were groundbreaking at that period in time. after all, we had to start somewhere and we didn't have the technology that we have today.

The setting of the video looks like the movie '2001: A Space Oddyssey'. It is from the final scene after Dave Bowman goes through the time warp, then gets old fast. It even has the monolith! In the movie, Dave is laying in the bed (as seen by the viewer here), points to the monolith, and then returns to Earth as a fetus.
