    I put it next to the food bowl and my budgie eventually after few days started scratching it. He doesn’t eat as much as my female budgie used to. I guess male budgies don’t eat it as much but I am happy he is eating little bit everyday.

    2:00 - I have found several cuttlebones as I walk on the beach near my house. Somehow when the cuttle dies or outgrows the cuttlebone (I don’t exactly know), the “bone” washes up nice and clean on the shore on its own. So, birds of all kinds can - and do - easily access this mineral source.

    My budgies don't like the cuttlefish bone, think they never touched it!
    But instead, they love to bite, chew or lick the mineral block & also they're eating sand combined with crushed shells from the sea!
    Your budgies are adorable! 🥰🥰🥰

      Thank you, however be aware, grit/sand is not for budgies, it is for other types of birds but not parrots, parrot hull their seed and don't need sand/grit it could be harmful to them rather than beneficial

      @@BudgieWorld Well, I had before a budgie which lived almost 13 years & I gave to him normal sand brought from a construction site, now I bought that mixture from the pet market ... says that is for budgies! ... They are fine after 1 year, but not eating it everyday!

      @@alexanderk.3056 sand can cause digestive problems to budgies, pet market is concerned about selling and not budgie's well being.
      I smoke (trying to quit), if I'm still alive that doesn't mean smoking is not harmful to me :)

      Alexander K. Budgie World is correct about the sand. I had one budgie that ate and ate the sand till she died, it was very sad. I only realized too late. There is that potential that it could kill them.

      @@alexanderk.3056 there are lots of things that are advertised for birds that are really not safe. Things like mirrors and happy huts are terrible for them but they are advertised all the time for birds. Seeds as a main diet for captive birds is advertised constantly is also terrible because seeds are like candy, it gives a very high risk of obesity and fatty liver disease. Wild birds are an exception because they burn all that energy flying and foraging. There are cages that are advertised for large macaws but can really only adequately fit cockatiels and some conures. Sand causes impaction in the crop for parrots. Birds like pigeons and finches eat the whole seed with the shell (hull) and the grit in the crop breaks the shell up for them. Parrots hull seeds before they eat it using their tongue and beak or holding it with their foot while they break away the shell. So there is no reason they would have to adapt to be able to store grit the way birds like finches do. Just because your budgie was OK, doesn't make it perfectly safe.
      For example, I have a rescued quaker who's previous owner smoked all the time and he lived in that house for probably 20 years (idk how long) before he ended up at the rescue and with me. That doesn't mean its safe to smoke around all birds because one survived.
      Just because it has a bird on the packaging doesn't mean its good for them, its just a way companies make more money because they can reach a wider demographic.

    One of my budgies sings to the mineralblock. I don't think it's because he feels lonely because he and his friend are really affectionate to each other.

    Given that budgies in the wild eat other bird's eggs for calcium supplement, when you give a pet budgie hardboiled egg, should you leave the eggshell on part of the egg?

    • @BudgieWorld
      @BudgieWorld  4 роки тому +7

      Yes I do keep it, actually the egg shell has a lot of calcium, I just smash it so it has a lot of pieces, (you can keep them large pieces as well)

    • @BudgieWorld
      @BudgieWorld  4 роки тому +4

      I would say mineral block covers everything, since it has both calcium and other minerals, whilst cuttlebone only has mainly calcium.
      You are good with either one of them, but I prefer the mineral block
