Rule #1-- DON'T buy low price aftermarket electronics/sensors or critical engine parts. Rule #2-- If you are a cheapskate and buy Chinesium parts, you WILL end up paying more than double the price of the OEM part because they will have to be swapped out MANY times and eventually get a OEM part regardless. Rule #3-- NEW doesn't necessarily mean GOOD !!!

My first instinct with that Mustang was broken teeth on a plastic gear in the actuator. The way it stopped and started seemed to be regular, as though the gear is spinning the whole time but only grabbing when the intact teeth make contact. It would be fun to pull that apart and see what's there.

Where the window will only move an inch at a time, it's because the driver module isn't getting feedback from the pulse counter on the motor.
This is to stop the motor being burnt out if the window is jammed.
On some designs such as Valeo / Temic motors the module is clipped to the side of the motor and the pulse counter is a hall sensor in the module coupled by a metal bar into the motor.
If the bar is missing or the module is not correctly seated, they exhibit this same behaviour.
On windows in frameless doors that have the "open an inch" function when you go to open the door, a faulty switch in the door latch can prevent that happening. See it a lot on VW, there will usually be an "implausible signal" code for the door lock.

  • @Graham_Wideman

Ivan -- a MAF puzzle: I don't dispute the rule-of-thumb that at idle you would see 1 g/sec for each litre of engine displacement. But why is it this number? Suppose 600 RPM, 10 R/sec, = 5 cycles/sec, for a 1 Liter engine that gives = 5 liter/sec. If this was at atmospheric pressure, that would be 5 x 1.3 g/L = 6.5 g. But the idle manifold vacuum is likely around 18 inHg or 9psi of vac, which means the absolute pressure is about 0.38 Atmosphere. So that 6.5 g would reduce to 6.5 x 0.38 = 2.47g. So why is the rule-of-thumb only 1g/sec per Liter of engine and not 2.47? There's a pretty large factor missing somewhere!

I get that sort of fuel economy out of my 5.7 litre Chevrolet LS1 V8 powered Holden VY SS Commodore around town (20-24 miles per UK gallon or 18-20 US miles per gallon) & that's out of a big V8 engine.
As far as the Lexus goes a 20+% Long term fuel trim would still Lead me to think that there's a problem either with low fuel pressure,an air leak or a restriction such as a blocked catalytic converter or something.
In the Commodore long term fuel trims which were pegged at 25% on both banks , check engine indicator & P0171 & P0174 lean codes were caused by a faulty fuel pressure regulator.
The fuel pressure is 61 PSI at the moment but it was 51 PSI then !

I wrote an entire dissertation on these codes on a Lexus Owners forum,,,,,, mine had a hard to find vacuum leak that was very difficult to find even with a smoke machine. Turned out the leak was only at idle and not under acceleration and was from a butterfly valve shaft bolted to the side of intake manifold which I believe Toyota uses to regulate airflow into cylinders under idle. That Lexus has poor O2 sensors or a intake vacuum leak I would bet. Or a combo of all of them.

The window issue seems to me that whatever logic is involved doesn't know the position of the window so defaults to creep it an inch at a time rather than going full speed.
As the reinitialise didn't resolve it - and not knowing how the thing keeps track of the position of the window - I'm going to guess..... the reinitialise is supposed to put the window to a known position, from there the motor unit keeps track of position using a hall effect sensor to count revolutions of some part of the mechanism.
Utter guess as I say. I'm just noting this here should this come up in the "too be continued" so I can laugh in the face of being wrong and learn something :D

I don't think you initialized the window correctly. You are supposed to HOLD the switch up at the auto second detent until the window closes fully and keep holding for more than 2 seconds. Because the control module needs to re-learn the limits of the window. The reason the auto mode isn't working is because it hasn't learned the limits yet.
It only learns the limits when you cycle it fully the way the instructions said, otherwise, the window motor will always default to full open out of safety concerns for not trapping someones limbs.
You need to push the window switch down fully, and hold until the window physically stops, and keep holding the switch down for at least 2 seconds, then hold the switch up fully and wait for the window to top out and keep holding for more than two seconds.
It didn't look like you ever did that on camera. Just clicked and let go.

My mother had a 2004 RX330 and it was a pile of shit even new. Abysmal gas mileage, wood trim that cracked @ 30k miles, a CD changer (on back order) that failed at 35k miles, and a transmission that started acting up at 50k miles. This was driven by a 60 year old woman. Disappointing given that it was expensive and basically a dolled-up Toyota, without the reliability.
