    Thanks for having the courage to make this video. Don’t let the negative comments let you down- haters will always be ready, so I guess it is what it is. I love my Bolt by the way and glad you do too. FYI- we also picked up a heated blanket the plugs into the 12v- which comes in handy if you’re trying to save your range. :)

    Glad you made it. I love my Bolt. Don't let an EV run out of charge. It's never fun, and it's also bad for the battery. I ran out of gas more than I'll admit when I was your age, but I haven't done it in decades. Even with an EV, it's largely a matter of bad planning. In the winter, dress warmly and don't use the heater if you have any reason for range anxiety. The heated seats and steering wheel don't much affect the range. "Don't brake" may not be good advice in this scenario. You're losing regen. Put the vehicle in L and drive with one pedal.

      Thanks for watching I agree totally! Me saying don't brake means I was advising not to use friction brakes which you already understand but even in L and using regenerative braking like I was continuously stopping at red lights can still waste power due to inefficiencies in regenerative braking and the energy lost in accelerating again. Plus, there's the loss of power from the inertia of your head, steering wheel, and seat when you're not making progress forward. It's all about optimizing efficiency and driving habits for the maximum range.

    Do it again with a tesla.

    I think the bolt doesn't tell you the range remaining because it is just an estimate. It doesn't want to say two miles remaining and you rely on that then suddenly run out of power.

    • @batteryblade
      @batteryblade  4 місяці тому

      It could just tell me the exact percentage of battery left which is not a estimate, and would help me easily tell if I will make it!

    As a daily bolt driver (EUV premier) as an uber driver, never drained it completely, but I have seen the flashing low alert before.
    You should have also turned off the infotainment system. You played around with keeping the heat on, but I suspect that was somewhat on purpose.

    • @AdodgerWho
      @AdodgerWho 4 місяці тому +1

      Closest I've got to empty was 1%, but I knew it would make it.

    • @batteryblade
      @batteryblade  4 місяці тому +1

      I did turn the heat off completely including my seats and steering wheel. But I wonder if turning off infotainment system would really make any difference considering led screens don't use much power and I don't believe the bolt has any sort of high-powered graphics card or cpu in it, being able to see the energy graphs seem more critical to making it then the 15 watts I used keeping it on. Do you have any thoughts on that?

      @@batteryblade The navigation system uses a lot of power

    • @AdodgerWho
      @AdodgerWho 4 місяці тому

      Additionally, the center console screen isn't needed to know how much power you're using.

    • @batteryblade

      The navigation system is just andriod auto which has my phone doing all of the processing power I don't see how the car could use much power for that!

    I know how you feel I was stuck in Ogden Utah as a Uber driver had to wait 2 hours at charge station to get a enough power to get to Salt Lake City 40 hours away

    Wouldnt the windshield defog if you put on rhe defrost on high even eithout the heat? Maybe with the AC?

    • @batteryblade
      @batteryblade  4 місяці тому +2

      Correct the Windshield fogging could have been easily solved with the use of the defogger, but I had no clue how much power I had left and didn't wanna waste any on climate settings

    Is this your first car? You look about 14 so I’m guessing probably 16. What year Bolt? I had a 2017 Orange sunburst Bolt EV Premier, and now have a 2023 Bolt EUV Premier

    • @batteryblade
      @batteryblade  4 місяці тому +1

      Yes I bought the bolt ev with cash, it was a good deal so I went 5 hrs away to pick it up from Ohio I was also looking at orange bolt but it was just too far away and not as good of price, the bolt is a blue 2019 Premier trim with only 13k miles on it I have already put another 3k miles on it since buying it! I definitely recommend highschoolers to buy used as the used prices are so good with low mileage and it requires no maintenance and plus in highschool your probably not paying the power bill! Plus they are super quick and fun to drive! The new bolts with the 7k tax credit are also a steal in my opinion since when can you get a brand new car with plenty of standard features for around 20k! I have to assume you liked your bolt ev if you just bought the euv, do you have a second ev with faster charging or just a regular ice car, as the only thing the bolts lack is charging speed of a modern ev but that does not bother me as I have only fast charged it once!
