Takes me back to the middle forties on Saturday morning father would cook breakfast as you did with stovetop biscuits which he would flip the whole pan of biscuits. I always marveled when he caught all ten brewing the top. Thank you so much for the great memories.
Did this back in the spring during a power outage, told gf i'm cooking breakfast, she said NO your not the power's out. She was all bug eyed when i brought the skillet full of flavor into the kitchen. I do ham in lieu smoked sausage, but each is own. GREAT VIDEO !
Came here just hungry and watching cooking videos...did not expect to see someone cooking with Seminole Swamp seasoning! I grew up in South FL and my family seasoned EVERYTHING with this stuff. My FAVORITE seasoning of all time!
Love this video! I just got my first cast iron at Goodwill. Only $12 for a Wapak #8 dutch oven. The seasoning is perfect and my eggs did not stick at all! I am addicted.
In the winter i make a similar breakfast using canned corn beef hash and local eggs. I do the final cooking under the broiler. Quick, simple and sastifying.
I've never seen using a lime before but my stepmother used to make the same breakfast and my Daddy always called it breakfast hash, I guess because he was in the Navy when younger, and he oftentimes added Spam! Lol.😉 But I've never seen the lime used. Bet that was delicious. Also my family likes spicy and we'd like Jalepeno instead of bell pepper. But to get in between we'd often use Poblano peppers and I always like the snappy texture of them better than Bell pepper. But that's a great breakfast anywhere in the world in my book. Thanks for sharing this.
loved this and have had it many times...I just started adding mushrooms and green onion to it and it really adds something to the flavor...keep up the great videos ...looking forward to the next one...
I found a glass lid on a cheap made in China pan which I scrapped as I don't cook on aluminum. The glass lid fits my 12" Lodge perfectly. I also changed the knob using a stainless bolt instead of that rusty screw. It's nice to be able to see my eggs get done, as I have used the same method as this guy. The eggs on top of the potatoes always come out perfectly. I always add my onions about when the potatoes are halfway done and they don't get over-cooked. I also use basil on the potatoes too, try it.
I like the one pan/ pot meal ideas, it's camping season and only one pot on the fire pit makes cooking while drinking manageable, keep em coming and thanks for sharing
I love how the modern Lodge Dutch oven lid fits so many pans. It fits my Griswold skillets as well as my Wagner chicken fryers. I was cooking a bunch of chicken, had 2 Wagner cf going. One with a Wagner glass lid and the other with a Lodge lid!!!
First time I have discovered this vlog. Good looking breakfast. We call them camp ovens n Australia. Cast iron, i have one from the 1950.s handed down. Cook everything from roast dinners, grillen sandwiches, to cakes and casseroles. Subscribed . Thank you .
Newly subscribed as my missus just bought me a cast iron Deutsch oven set for Christmas and the food you cook is right up my street 👍 Thank you 💚 From West Yorkshire England 💪👌👍
I tried this with some bacon and summer deer sausage! I also added some fresh jalapeños and slices of avocado! I forgot the lime however. Thanks for 5he awesome video!
What a coincidence! I made a similar breakfast yesterday but with paprika, fresh tomatoes, Porcini (only a bit because they have a powerful taste) and Cermini mushrooms, garlic (only a little so it won’t clash with the porcini), dry red wine, and green onions and only a bit of leftover chicken instead of pork. I generally caramelise the onions separately from the meats. Adding a little bit of mozzarella cheese and you’re in heaven. Though I have never tried outdoor cooking, might give it a try one day...
I love breakfast anytime of the day. Have you ever made a egg bake it's similar to this but the eggs are scrambled up, I use 12 eggs to a 13x9 brownie pan, I put onions and chunks of ham and shredded cheese and mushrooms stems and pieces shredded hash browns and eggs, takes a little over a hour in the oven at 350.
I've just been "enlightened" by the Cast Iron movement!!! It is like an entire new door of opportunities have opened up for me when it comes to cooking for my wife and children!!! This video "made" me subscribe...I LOVE cooking in Cast Iron....About to throw away ALL of that "non-stick" mess out....Old school is the best school....Good Video!!!
Almost identical to what I've made for Sunday's at home, except for the lime. Now I've gotta try it. Also, cooking the eggs on top like that is an art to get them runny but cooked. Good job.
you can make low tunnels with pvc (bent into arches) and 1 ft rerod to put them into the earth. Also plastic and clamps. Works pretty well and holds up to high wind too.
This is incredible and reminds me of a much needed dinner hubby and I had in Indonesia, at the crater of a volcano after traveling all day. I've never had better. My only addiction would be some grated cheddar cheese on top. I loved the music.
@@BackwoodsGourmetChannel done and done. We're out here making spaghetti and meatballs or Japanese hibachi lakeside. Happy someone else is making great non traditional meals out and about. Appreciate the welcome! All the best in 2019 for you
I’ve seen your channel before and watched a few vids. Well today I got gifted my first Dutch Oven. I’m so stoked, I can’t wait to use it on my next camping trip. I think my first dish will be a curry, then a cobbler.
If im ever in the usa im coming over for some breakfeast thats for sure hehe in norway we call this pytt i panne. Panne is basically pan or skillet and basically means everything in a pan/skillet. I would throw in some shallots or some chives or small amount of garlic only thing i would change for my personal taste. Looks very tasty and good.
I really love your videos I have 2 cast irons but thought they were useless because I had no clue on how to correct them and season. Thanks for the videos
I keep coming back for more ideas for dishes to cook when camping. I make a lot of one pot meals. I would not have thought about the lime, but oh man...
Is there somewhere you provide ingredient measurements and/or how long each step takes? I know it probably varies with the weather and how hot the fire is, but I'm not very good at "winging" stuff yet. Any information you can provide is much appreciated!

Did you pre boil the potatoes? Or did they cook in the pan with just steam?

Jimmy dean sausage sells a premade breakfast like this but nothing compares to making it yourself in cast iron.
Love the ending with the lime and cilantro. Backwoods with style. Great job.
