- The start of an epic adventure - and a roadtrip from Los Angeles to Las Vegas. Get to know my new motorcycle, visit the best motorcycle workshop in town with me, meet old friends, and join the ride through the Los Angeles Forest all the way to Vegas.
I traveled to the United States of America to stay a few months to visit family and friends - neither having a plan, nor a motorcycle.
Only a few weeks later, this happened: I had bought a motorcycle and was on the road again.
Upon my arrival in the United States I tried to find a company that would rent a motorcycle to me for a month - but either all their bikes were already taken or it was way too expensive. So I started to research the market for used motorcycles and planned to resell it after ending my trip. I didnt find the right fit. So I tried to find a new Yamaha Tenere 700. In the end Yamaha USA who sold me an equipped Tenere 700 from their press fleet. Yes, I bought another Yamaha Tenere 700. And no, I have not yet sold it again…
Get to know my friend Tim, who I met in Uzbekistan on my worldtrip, and who helped me to install my GPS to my new motorcycle. On the search of a connector we visited the coolest motorcycle workshop in town ( Moto Classic Garage Los Angeles ).
The next day started with a big surprise: Tim was riding with me to Las Vegas to visit family and offered to guide the way through the Los Angeles Forest. And my travel partner joined the ride too with his pillion on a rented motorcycle of BMW.

The USA is a heaven for riding in my opinion - hope this trip will not be the only one. That’s why I didn’t sell the Tenere yet 😅

We unfortunately skipped Vegas in the end. Only visited Boulder and then took off again without really going into the city 🤯

Living so close to Angeles National Hwy I am so grateful, every time I ride my moto, reconnecting to nature. Looks like Tim took the scenic route from Baker to Las Vegas, my preferred route too.

Some chords of New Orleans, with some rock, made by Tenere...Three bikes, four persons, takes the road... In middle time, Los Angeles forest, waited for them....
Sinuous curves, mountains, long roads , flanked by burn trees.... Baker! Hit 99 degrees Fahrenheit, hot day!... In Nevada route 164,before Tim saying goodbye, they stopped for gambling in the local casino...
Another song arrived, it's time to take crazys roads, it looks like a movie... May be perfect, may be not... I will see!? ...

I've seen deer, big horn sheep, and a bear along the Angeles Forest Hwy. It's a refreshing getaway drive for Angelinos. I've plenty of motorcycles, road trippers in Subarus, vans, or VWs, sports cars, or brand new cars getting broken in along this Hwy.
I've traveled every state west of Interstate 25 and live in Los Angeles. I loved your trip from LA to Wrightwood I don't ride anymore, but still get out of the city taking that same route. It's a beautiful drive and I'm glad you enjoyed it. I've also been past that huge thermometer in Baker. Ah, the memories.

Lea, really good to see on your travels once more and meeting some of your friends, around thirteen years ago my wife and I flew into San Diego to meet up with our tour guide ! Fred Brunn of Californian Motorcycle Tours, Fred was brilliant, took care of everything, Bikes(Harley Davidson), we are in America, Hotels , route and maps, all we had to do was ride, Route 66, Hoover Dam and so much more, your trip will remind us those super times in America and we even owned a Harley or two before returning to BMW, ride safe, will catch you next week, Derek.

I think that Boulder was originally the place where workers who built the Hoover dam on the Colorado river lived .. the town was built especially for them

Wish I (Orange County; Yamaha 2016 FJR 1300) would have known when you were riding and could have ridden with you. Angeles Crest Highway is one of my favorite roads and have ridden to Las Vegas many times to include Hoover Dam (be sure to take I95 from NV to AZ on the sky bridge --- really freaky with the high altitude and cross winds). Valley of Fire is one of my favorite rides with some beautiful views! Not sure where you're off to after that, but Death Valley mountain passes and desert are fantastic!
Death Valley I unfortunately didn’t do this time - I have been riding there about two years ago when doing a california trip (but only documented it with a few pictures on Instagram at that time)

Ja, ich hoffe sehr, dass ich nächstes Jahr vielleicht noch einmal ausgiebiger die Westküste bereisen kann (diesmal lag noch zu viel Schnee in den Bergen - in Colorado waren noch alle Pässe geschlossen…)
