  • In this video I show how to remove a steering stem/head lock from my Honda GL1000 restoration project. The bike didn't come with a key for the lock so I need to replace it with a new assembly.

As I had to drill the lock to get it out it was scrap at that point. A new lock assembly (OEM) isn't very expensive to be honest.

Lock looks seized. If you can get the parts then this solution is better.

What year wing is that, my 76 has it on the key switch , I think 🤔.

It's a '76. My ignitiion switch also has a lock position but the barrel that extends from the switch when you turn the key doesn't engage with anything on the headstock!

All of my GL1000 motorcycle frames doesn’t have those? It looks like homemade and welded on…It should have been installed on the right side instead because the steering turns left there’s no access to put keys in it… My Antique Harley has built in keys steering’s lock on the VL frames.

I've had several Honda's with the same lock on the left side. You have to turn the steering to the right to get the key in. Interestingly this bike also has an ignition lock but the locking mechanism doesn't engage with anything on the frame? More investigation required methinks!

@@VJMotoResto Yes Unless it’s on the Center Stand Or the Bike would Tip over? I believe the lock should have been located on the Right side for easy access instead of the Forks blocking it? My GW’s GL1000/1100&1200 has ignition steering locks only nothing like yours. You have a very Rare Frame if the factory do made that way?

Great video again and a top technique. I'll check my 76 GL as to be honest I haven't looked at the steering lock yet as I only got the bike recently

The is a common Honda lock fitted to many motorcycles depending on the country it is for. Refer partzilla.
