I build a metal pergula to hold 10 Canadian 380 watt solar panels for my solar power system, this gives me shade and keeps the panels off the ground, let me know what y’all think!
Great idea! I was thinking of placing panels on my flat garage, but I really like this pergola creation. I don't like solar panels on the house, but I understand it is necessary most of the time. Thanks for the video!
@@peterjol I would bet there are some products that would work, so far normal window calking seems to be dealing good it doesn’t leak water when it rains
Joist tape for decks. There might be some so the width don’t cover any of the cells. Put on top so water doesn’t pool and cause issues the many of issues that come with sitting water as compared to sealing from under.
@@Mikebuildss Cool. I have a couple ground mounts. One that is concreted in and another that its on 48" ground screws, Both are very sturdy. The wind on this hillside can be something amazing. After construction the wind was strong enough to blow one of the panels off the array because I didn't attach it well. Amazingly it wasn't damaged landing about 4 feet away. If I put up another array I'll do the ground screws again. The only problem is the 2" galvanized pipe for the frame is quite expensive.
Interesting approach! I have been watching Solar Pergola videos for a while, planning on doing one in the near future. Really love your can do attitude and am interested how you utilize the power, are you connected to the grid?
Hi, have them on beams and rack on my wooden side roof over the garage and toilet / coal house. ( That dates the house!) Easy to remove though with solar racking. I have them on the sheds in the garden and a A frame on the lawn. Looking at putting them against the fence line when I clear the weeds. (bushes) Living in the UK not much need for sun shade! But I like it. Take care M
When I build mine I’m going to use Unistrut. Good project though! More landscape and shade. Win win.
Very good idea. Get some yard back, too. Glad to see a new video as I know Texas has had some weather! Glad you’re ok.

It Surprises me that nobody appears to be selling some sort of simple plastic/rubber sealing tape/strip designed for using solar panels as a roofing.

No hate. The wind will take that with it one of these days. That is basically a sail which once the wind catches it will be off to the races.
Agreed I’m working on a way to concrete in the footings, I want this thing to never move!

Cool idea. You just earned a new subscriber. 👍
Wonder if high winds will move it?
So far has been solid we will see!
Did you keep track of how much the material cost? I would love to this in my driveway.
I’d say roughly 600 dollars
That is a great idea!!
Thanks!

No grid connection, this is for my off grid 48 volt power system that i use to run my mini splits and charge batteries, its plenty of power!
It's like a junkyard back there. Bet the neighbors hate it.

Good shit Mike!
Hi MIKE, can you comment on how the solar panels affect the temperature underneath during full sun?
@@luxbeltran it feels cool, does not seem to radiate heat any worse then a normal metal roof
what is your plans on mounting the pergola to ground?
@@joejoe9399 I was going to add 4x4 wooden poles concreted into the ground the bolt them to the legs toward the bottom
Australian here, why not put them on the roof of your house like we do?
@@YeahTheOzzy because when the roof needs any kind of work then they have to be removed, also wanted some extra shade!
@@Mikebuildss fair enough! how often do roofs need to be worked on over there? Almost never here.

Sorry can’t watch all that mess in the backyard. Made it a few seconds and stopped.
