This will really help me out with my artwork. I'm slowly getting back into drawing since high school and I'm going to need all the help I can get. I made it a resolution for this year to work with different kinds of art techniques and styles.
Quick tip: If you break the inside of the coloured pencil, you can hold it over a flame and the wax will melt a bit and glue back together. NOTE: do not hold it over for too long or the was will just melt out of the casing, and do not hold it directly over the flame or it might burn the wood.
Oh my goodness! I just found your channel through Baylee Jae and I am sooooo thrilled that I did! Finally someone who's giving proper in-depth information on working with Prisma-colors! you literally have made my week and I am now so excited to see your other videos! :D
I bought a canvas and elastic roll-up case for my pencils and I love it. It is easy to find what you want and easy to put it back and everything stays in the same order. Plus each pencil is well cushioned, particularly the points, when you roll it up....and very portable too, if you want to draw outside or travel or something. But - all roll-up cases are not equal - research a little bit.
Really good information! I was wanting to see what worked for you for storing your pencils and how to sharpen them. I just found for me what is the best storage for more than just pencils depending on how many you have but I got on Amazon a 3 drawer wood pastel box! It's awesome and it may take up a little space on your desk but you can put things on top so it just gives a step up of desk space. The one I got has a foam lining in each drawer and with the foam insert it will hold 41-46 in each drawer, w/o the foam inserts 86 or 87. Both with or with out the foam inserts the amount depends on how tight of a fit you want or care out. Other than that it will obviously hold other things like pencil sharpener, stumps and black file, I think i got it for about $32? The price fluctuates through out the week and was as high as $40 but for some reason Thursdays if I can remember correctly was when the price was the lowest. A cool part is its unfinished or it might have a light coating.
Couldn't write any more lol...to finish where I left off....its unfinished wood for or has a light coating so your able to paint it, cover it whatever you like really! I love it already and I can pull the trays out and take it to watch some tv and not have to lug around the whole thing even though it's not very heavy.
I am going to invest in an electric sharpener. I was sharpening a red pencil today with a hand held one and it broke three tomes before I gave up and had to use another red one. I have about 5 of each colors that Crayola offers, I'm a bit obsessed. :)
I use food cans whatever size I want, and have attached a few together before by using pretty duct tape. Duct tape comes in so many beautiful designs now! The cans then work great because I have a lot of art supplies and it keeps them all separated as to how I want to use them. Don't use cans that have a pull top though, as they can cut your fingers even if you are careful!
I VERY VERY LOVE YOUR VIDEOS! Very helpful to me! I want to ask, I always carry my color pencils to school in my bag (Of course in my bag). Where did I should keep my color pencils safely? In pencil box? Or what? By the way, KEEP MAKING VIDEOS!
Great lesson I sort my pencils using Yoplait cup that I glued to a piece of cardboard the larger the cardboard the more separations you can do Hardly any cost and I love yogurt.
Art ala Carte Do you play guitar? I noticed one in the background :) Nice video! Can you talk about where to get inspiration and ideas for your art? Lately, all I have been drawing are copies of youtube tutorials (such as your videos), and they turn out really nice, but I also want to draw without always following tutorials. Thanks!
Hi thanks for the great tutorials. How do you know what to do? I find myself jumping all over the place. Should I stay on the same subject tell I master it, or is it ok to go all over the place?
You are soooo good at drawing. I think I commented this on another video, but could you please maybe do of video of how to draw a pony (not a my little pony just a pony). I have been trying to draw one for a while and I can not get it right.
A good alternative to those electric sharpeners would be the manual cranking versions of those, not only they do not need electricity, but you can also control on how much is being taken (depending on the model, mine is a cheapo but still amazing)
Val if there Brocken put them in a microwave for five to fifteen seconds just long enough for the wax to warm then take them out and let them cool for a while and the wax will have melted back together
I found a good way to deal with break happy pencils is to sharpen them with a knife, for those who are old enough of course(if you do make sure the knife is facing away from any body parts!), it makes the lead stronger and it will hardly break when shaping
Awesome!! Thank you so much for the tips!! Love them!!! I was having a lot of problems with breakage! So I am going to go and get an electric sharpener! Just a question, have you ever tried to put your pencils in a heating pad? I had heard that it helps to soften the wax to mould them back together again inside the pencil. I did try that and it worked very well!! Dropped a few on the floor again so I will warm them again and see if it helps or it could be the sharpener, my hand sharpener is getting older so electric here I come!!! Cheers!!! Heat the pencils on high for one hour in a heating pad.
i have a sharpener with blades like those but you have to manually crank it.. is it okay to use it with colored pencils? i used it on my charcoal pencil and i just got soooo frustrated!!
Maybe try Fabre-Castell Polychromes. They're oil-based and do NOT get wax bloom and are not as prone to breakage. They're a bit more than Prismacolor and are compatible with them. The Polychromos keep a sharp point.
Thanks to you I finally found the right paper to use for my colored pencils!! Thank you so much for the help ^^ I was wondering though, if there is a way that maybe I could send you the a picture of the piece of artwork that I practiced my Colorpencil work on and maybe you could tell me what you think? Like if there are any tips you could give me or any things I might need to work on? Even if not thank you so much for the help!
Tachibana Akira GreatJob!! You can always send me a copy of your picture to either my Facebook, Instagram or to my PO BOX all info is in my description box of the video. Have fun!
I just keep my pencils in the tin they came in. I think it keeps them safe and organized, and since I have a 24 set, using a different container doesn't really make sense to me.
I keep my color pencils in two types of things first I would say I have 74 color pencils so it makes sense and I divide them in different color group like yellow to red and pink purples and flesh earthy tones blue.greens and then black white and grey ....... Now I store my color pencil in cups and in a bucket with rubbers tied them up through colour groups. Hope it helped
I am an art hobbyist, so what colored pencils would you recommend. I recently use crayola colored pencils, and they are quite nice, but I feel like I want to change. Now immediate change, but maybe a small fine touch set, or even a prang kit. No prismacolor or Fabre castle or whatever that's spelled. Just simple. Thanks!
You can get the Marco Refine colored pencils, they don't cost that much, and I heard that they work well! They're not the same quality as the prismacolor, but they're not like the Crayola either. They're kinda in the middle.
I can't use hand sharpeners. Prismacolors are super prone to breaking. They're cores are always like off center and really soft so they always break before you can get it to a needle point. I bought this small battery powered "I point evolution" thing that actually has a standard sharpener inside of it, it just spins it in a fully encased thing by a motor. It saves SO much of the pencil. Brings it to a point in like 3 rotations of the inner thing which takes like a split second. It's the best investment I've ever made when it comes to colored pencils.
I'd burn through a whole brand new pencil trying to hand sharpen it... It was the most frustrating thing in the world. I wanted to scream. Not to mention not draw Anymore. Even when id go super slow and careful after the tip would be all wiggly like it broke higher up while spinning.
Tommy Ohlrich Try the Faber Castell Polychromos. They are oil based, they have a harder lead, and the core is centered, Also, the core is bond to the wood casing so if the lead does break, it won't continuously fall out. Hope it helps!
I find the electric works the best. Every time I have used a regular sharpener it always breaks the lead. Some artist sharpen them with a knife, just be very careful if you go that route and don't sharpen your hand too 😉

I use a hand crank pencil sharpener, the kind you mount on a wall. My dad got it for me and I think it's absolutely the best!

Thank you so much! I'm getting prisma colored pencils for Christmas and I wanted to know how to take care of them.
Awesome.....onto the next part! TFS

Fantastic tips! Where specifically did you buy that 3-way purple pencil cup holder? (What store?)
+Sylvia Catalano I got mine on clearance at a store... i have never found them again :(
But which store?
Val if there Brocken put them in a microwave for five to fifteen seconds just long enough for the wax to warm then take them out and let them cool for a while and the wax will have melted back together

Where did you get that Baymax plushie?
what do you put your color pencils in
Just a tip with the electric sharpner.., it can can melt the wax inside the pencil.., when using it
New Subby!!❤️
ur really helpful!!!!:)))
Now I am confused. Some say you should use medium tooth for colored pencils and some say you should have smooth paper.
Depends on the result you are looking for. I would testing both types of paper and see which works best for you and what gives you the style you want.
@@ArtalaCarte Thank you for answering 💕💕💕

I had a similar problem when I was still using Crayolas, so I started sharpening all my pencils with knives and sandpaper.
Thy Tran or try the Prismacolor Sharpener it can be found for $7 on Amazon
Where did you buy the rotating pencil holder??
You can find it anywhere, but I have seen it before at Target.
What about a pencil wrap?
If you get breaks in your core, stick the pencil in the microwave for 10 seconds. It works with crayons and Cray z art. I don't know about prismas
Is there any alternative for the electric sharpener ?
I find the electric works the best. Every time I have used a regular sharpener it always breaks the lead. Some artist sharpen them with a knife, just be very careful if you go that route and don't sharpen your hand too 😉
What's the name of episode 1? I think I missed it. :-(
They figure out the weight by weighting 500 pieces of paper (that paper) and yep
i have a hand held and i have never had a tip break
I just use regular color pencils and a crayon box
My name IS Jasmine. LOL!!!!!
if lead breaks super glue it works
how much waste does the electric sharpener do.. I mean does it eat away a lot of the pencil faster than doing it manually?????
oh no! no link to episode one!
gwenhyfarbeati Opps! There you go! :) ua-cam.com/video/Alsjf4Nu29Y/v-deo.html
oh my gosh thats my sticker i sent you
lps angels I love it!!1 Thanks!
Art ala Carte you are so welcome im sending you a letter in the mail tommorow!!!!!
:)
You should be an Art teacher.
Mary Miller she is
well you can use 6 toilet paper tubes to make a pencil holder
That would look like crap.
If you know how to decorate and paint, it'll look awesome :)
i'm way more organized than you with color
red,orange,yellow,green,blue,purple,pink,brown,tan-ish,black,gray,and white
i have ocd
+Mohamed Siad i agree she is just jealous
how am i jealous
+Mohamed Siad good one thats why she is jealous
That was kind of harsh though. I wouldn't say she's jealous. If she wants to share a story, then let her
1:50. The way to prevent broken cores is to buy better pencils. I've never had a Faber-Castell Polychromos break.
D D yes but they are much much more expensive.
