    Liam Neeson can carry any nonsense plot his shoulders. He's a more intriguing action hero than Stallone and Willis ever were.

    "Who brings a knife to a wolf fight?" has to be one of the best off-the-cuff one-liners ever spoken anywhere.

    "Don't bring a knife to a wolf fight."
    That might be the funniest thing I've ever heard Lemire say.

    The acting here is the biggest asset, clearly, but it's also a bit sleeker than you would expect from a technical standpoint. Julianne Moore is always great to watch and Liam Neeson always does this stuff well, but it actually is pretty well made and is thrilling throughout, but the ending is quite contrived. The movie also progressively tries to have more and more comic relief which never actually works. It disrupts the tone. And speaking of tone, the second half does become more of a '90s action flick as opposed to its preceding half which is more of a sly whodunit. Everything works more or less on its own terms but it doesn't quite mesh together perfectly. It is still thoroughly entertaining throughout and I didn't guess anything correctly, but the biggest problem is that they pretty much wasted Lupita Nyong'o, and that really annoyed me. She was barely in it. 7.6/10, good, one thumb up, above average, etc.

    Great review Everyone. I liked this movie thought it was very entertaining I gave it a B+

    Okay, so as Alonso reviews movie after movie that is better than this one in the coming weeks and rates them lower, keep in mind that he gave Non-Stop a 7.6.

      People have different opinions and experiences of a film - Film is subjective

    • @WaitingtoHit
      @WaitingtoHit 10 років тому

      The idea of subjective experience (something which is a waste of time to even point out) does not make all viewpoints equal because some viewpoints are devoid of logic. There is still a spectrum of reasonability, even in subjective evaluation. If over time a critic exhibits a pattern of irrational and inconsistent views on what does/does not constitute a good film, then that is a bad critic. If a critic routinely dislikes far more movies than his peers and often fails to praise films which other critics generally agree are great, that is the sign of a bad critic. There are some absolutes. I have been watching What the Flick for years, and I am merely one in a long, long line of people to comment on Alonso's virtually non-existent standards and at times, willfully contrary nature.

    • @DorkJam
      @DorkJam 10 років тому +2

      WaitingtoHit He may not like films most critics generally don't (which I'm not even sure he does) but He might not enjoy the overall widely considered great movies as such because of differing view on the plot, characters, performances, directing choices, etc. To be not in agreement with most people about what you like as a film is not wrong of you to do so..

    • @WaitingtoHit
      @WaitingtoHit 10 років тому +1

      Dork Jam
      Oh, I see. I am dealing with a simplistic thinker with limited reading-comprehension skills. AGAIN, Alonso generally dislikes a much higher percentage of films than any reviewer I am aware of, AND his views on what makes a great film do not seem to be based on anything resembling a logical and consistent set of values from review to review. In other words, his ratings are completely arbitrary. If you dislike a film that most critics laud, you ought to be able to explain yourself based on a system of values that reflects your standards for a great film. Over the years, no such pattern of values has manifested itself in Alonso's explanations. He will say that he dislikes this film or that film for this or that reason...but then he will unexpectedly praise another film that embodies all of his alleged pet peeves. He has no real reasons for any of his ratings. So unlike Christy, he is a pseudoinetellectual. He wants to look and sound smart, and the easiest way to do that is to be overly critical of most films. This approach is only really a cover for the fact that he either doesn't know what films he likes or he does but just doesn't know why he likes them. A critic with convictions can be trusted, and you can gauge whether or not you will like a film based on the opinion of someone with observable and consistent convictions about what makes a great film. That is one of the big reasons why, whether people agreed with Roger Ebert or not, they still wanted to see what he had to say. The other major reason was that he loved the form; he believed in the potential magic of movies. Alonso almost never seems to enjoy himself, or rather, is too often afraid to let viewers know when he does because he is insecure. It is safer to be the inscrutable, grumpy critic. Passion stems from conviction, but exuding passion for something means that one must potentially defend it. When people know what you love (something you actually do love, not something you simply say you love), then you are potentially vulnerable to personal attacks. Alonso is not usually willing to take that risk.

    Passenger 57 (1992) had a fight scene in an airplane restroom. Wesley Snipes FTW!
    Good review though, I'm looking forward to this movie.

    • @Le_Petomane
      @Le_Petomane 10 років тому

      But the real question is.....
      Who would win Liam Neeson Vs Wesley Snipes, in real life or their respective characters from those two films, in a plane bathroom fight?

    • @Vincent_Error404
      @Vincent_Error404 10 років тому +1

      Nobody beats Simon Phoenix! Lol. These are 2 of my favorite actors so it hard to pick a "movie" winner. In real life, Snipes is pretty well trained, so I'll have to keep it real and call him the winner.
      It would be awesome to see Neeson and Snipes in a movie together one day.

    • @Le_Petomane

    this movie was great but never explains the bit where no-one on the plane was using their phone and neeson was still recieving messages...also I was kinda expecting the woman sat next to him was going to turn out to be the main villain as she was the last on in the toilet before the pilot died and was the only one he trusted for the whole thing

  • @ddbsu30
    @ddbsu30 9 років тому

    Overall, the movie was very watchable and suspenseful. There is a major plot hole, however, that I could not get past after watching the ending. (Spoiler alert) When it was revealed who the villain is, it made absolutely no sense to me that he was the one who stopped the other passengers from subduing Liam Neeson, allowing him to carry on with his investigation. Why would the villain allow the one obvious person in his path to continue his attempts at stopping him?

    I was following this film, RIGHT up until the discovery of the bomb. After then, it takes a nose dive, pun intended.
    But, these shouldn't be compared to Die Hard or anything like that.
    Three comparisons i would make, and these are obvious comparisons are Red Eye, Flight Plan and Airforce One.
    And in this case, i feel Leeson shares a lot with Harrison Ford's character.

    The trailers look kinda...eh... and it's telling to me that I've seen it so many, many times. That's usually not a good sign, when they try to "overpush" a film on you. But hey, I like some of the cast here, for sure, although I think that Liam's best work is well behind him now.

    I hated this film. So overdramatic, so unrealistic. Why his character had to be SO moronically aggressive I do not know. Couldn't even watch it all the way through the first time. How the fuck does a paranoid alcoholic get cleared as an air martial anyway!? Worst script nomination.

      *****
      The Grey was a terrible movie, this movie also sucked, Liam Neeson is so over-rated. He's one dimensional and always the same, easy to follow for people who have difficulty following otherwise complex plots and developed characters, like people who write ''Just die. Please, just die.'' on youtube because they got a little sand in their vagina because someone did not like the same movie they liked. hahaha yu sooosteewwwpid so foooony
