When I was a kid it was hilarious to see a woman driving a pickup truck. It just was not done by ladies. We actually laughed at it. They were very rough riding without power steering, power brakes, nor air conditioning until the late 60’s and early 70’s. Most of them were 6 cylinder too. I remember the first v8 Chevy truck I ever saw about 1968.
It was unusual in the city, but in rural areas, it was not so strange. Most cars of that era didn't have power steering, power brakes, or AC either. But they did have a nice smooth ride.
I never understood the big fin looking things on the front, they did away with them after a couple years while keeping most other parts of the body the same or similar
@@jamesbosworth4191 That is one of the most expensive body panels to change, which is why it's normally only done on full redesigns and so many distantly-related cars built on the same platform have interchangeable windshields.
I remember these trucks when they were new and they looked rough after just a few years and they were butt ugly right out of the showroom. People didn't start driving pickups as personal vehicles, instead of cars until well into the 70s. Believe me you would NOT want to be picking up your date in one of these trucks back then. Looks only a mother could love.
@jeanclaude7018 I love my Squarebody. If you have them rust-proofed, they are great trucks. They do everything a truck is supposed to do, and have a nice interior as well, and they are easy to work on. NO DAMN COMPUTERS! And yes, today's Japanoid and Japanese vehicles are truly ugly. They look like the faces of the Hurman/Unger cartoons that used to be in the paper.
I have always liked the 60 - 61 Chevy's, (and GMC) looks, and I knew they were all new and were bigger. I always figured, though, that it's rear coil springs were a liability, (the GMC stuck with rear leaf springs), but it actually has a higher load capacity. Would be curious to see how the other makes compare from THEIR OWN points of view. It does look like the Chevy wins hands down.
@@glennso47 Their standard transmissions, not surprised, as, at least in the Chevy, was pretty much the same unit Chevrolet cars used since the 40s, and it was not exceptionally rugged even then, but the GMC continued with the 4 speed Hydramatic for automatic trans, but Chevy used it's 2 speed Powerglide.
They pick and choose, the specs. A little different here and there didn't really matter. Looks and/or loyalty to brand was the final decision, unless there was a big price gap..
Of the four 1960 models, only Chevy was all-new. But 1961 brought new designs for Ford, Dodge and IHC. Of those three, Ford looked better, IHC looked better, but Dodge was plug-ugly! Not to mention that Chevy's design was improved in 1962 and 1964, while Ford was pretty much the same through 1966 (except for the unibody, which was phased out by 1964. Dodge finally made its front end more attractive by 1965, but none of them were attractive enough to win any beauty contests back then....
Would there be much difference between the new1960 Chevrolet light duty trucks and GMCs light dutys I know that the V6 was exclusive to GMC But that wasn't the olny engine that GMC had in their arsenal

Anything but ugly, in my opinion. In my youth, I drove a 1960 Chevy flat deck a bit, it was a workhorse, but I thought it was a great looking truck. 😎👍🏻
for all the hype chevy is boasting about glass area to the ford...they seemed to skip over that the ford had a larger rear window ...i'll take the ford
Bigger back window? For your rear eyeballs?😂🤣🤣 Or maybe you prefer a suntan on your neck? Maybe possibly you love to show the drivers behind you U neck? Why would you want that?
yeah I got to agree... I like some radical styling though, the Dodge was proabably the tamest... Ford and Chevy were like wtf... 61 would tone them down pretty quick.. I like the 61 Chevy better
The fords and chevys were cool looking with the foreward leaning cabs and those huge hoods, but unfortunately the chevys was impossible to see over and the new suspensions sucked and proved short lived. Ford caught up in sucking with the 61 unit cab and box.
Why do you feel that the torsion bar suspension sucked? If you look at the history they are using torsion bar suspension on many vehicles till today. in 1963 chevy had to drop the torsion bar suspension and go with the spring front suspension. Because I believe Cadillac had the patent. Many people are completely satisfied with the torsion bar suspension and believe that it is superior.
No, the modern Silverado "light trucks" with their giant size are the ugliest...and the most dangerous around bicyclists and small children. On the other hand the Ford is actually the best looking of the four.
These '60-'66 Chevrolets are still hugely popular and an amazing number of them are still on the road.
Fue su rediseño y cambios en suspensión de las dos partes que mejoro su fiabilidad, por siguen en circulación.
I cant believe people think that hood is ugly. Blows my mind. Its fricken classic and has a really neat aesthetic.
I Agree ❤👍

Yeah manual steering, usually steel floor or rubber mat if you lucky, lot of bouncing normally, a brutal clutch... Certainly not luxury rides :)

I honestly love the look of the Chevy truck. I know nobody else does but it's just so unusual
Me too. That windshield sure did date fast, so much they ended up expensively redesigning it mid-cycle.
I never understood the big fin looking things on the front, they did away with them after a couple years while keeping most other parts of the body the same or similar

@jeanclaude7018"Squarebody" refers to Chevy and GMCs from 1973 - 87, with some 88 - 91s as well. F150s are Fords.
This is when trucks were TRUCKS .😊
Wait... a wood pickup bed is better than steel?
Of course!
What's so good about steel in the bed?

Their transmission was junk on Chevy and GMC trucks.
When do you go to the Dodge and International trucks?

They sure did ignore the Dodge V8 engines didn’t they.
shhh :) only talk up the strong Chevy points :)
And the IHC six cylinder!!!
On the Dodge, transmission options have been ignored. On the IH, automatic transmission options are also ignored.

That's because no one liked the poor quality ugly Dodge.

Ford brought out the one hand tailgate latch in 1964….Chevy still had the double chain latches on the tailgate until the all-new 1967s.
Yet Dodge Trucks had the same body style from 1961-1971. Chrysler was more interested in updating its cars than its trucks.
The Ford was but ugly

The 60 and 61 Chevrolet are my all time favorite pickup for looks.
🛻They left out the 1960 Studebaker in the comparison. 🛻 Talk about a vehicle with wierd styling.🛻
Granted the Studebaker Lark type pick up was a worthy competitor
I was wondering about that myself, I've always liked the Champ pickup!
After watching this and it's obvious comparisons of mere inches between models . Can we as men believe women when they say size doesn't matter?

GMC offered a V12 in some bigger trucks!
Funny that the Chevy 348 was always called a truck motor but apparently
Wasn’t used in trucks
