    One suggestion: Every electricity bill will have the units consumed. Sometimes the rate varies based on the slab in which you are using electricity. So average rate might vary neighbour to neighbour. Look at the units mentioned in electricity bill, add up for the year and then calculate the average unit consumed.

    One point - from my personal experience please add 30-70% more as people start using a lot more after installing solar plant, you will definitely buy new ACs and will use it all day everyday in the living room etc, you may buy a new EV, keep your water heaters on all the time in winters, use your dishwasher more, use your washing machine at higher washing temperatures 😄 and much more. Very informative video nonetheless.

    Hi Sir,
    Happy to see you back.
    We have recently installed solar system setup. But the peak efficiency of the day is barely reaching 60% of total capacity. Is this due to the month of December ? Or is it due to any defects ?
    Plant details:
    Capacity: 3.2kw ( 535w × 6 panels)
    Type: Bi facial mono half cut (microtek)
    Inverter: 4kv (Microtek)
    Total 19 days of operation till now.
    City : Lucknow

    • @BrijrajJadeja007
      @BrijrajJadeja007 9 місяців тому +1

      Yes, in winter months the peak will be around 55-60%, I have 3.3 kw and peak this time is 1.8, makes 9-10 units a day, in summer it makes 15-17. Although I have poly and you have mono but I live in Ahmedabad so much more sunlight than Lucknow.

    🎯 Key Takeaways for quick navigation:
    00:15 💡 *Making a dedicated video to explain how to calculate the solar plant capacity needed based on electricity usage and needs.*
    00:44 💰 *Electricity rates differ vastly across India, so can't recommend plant capacity based only on monthly electricity bill amount. *
    01:25 🔋 *Solar plant generation varies - high in summer, low in rainy season. Take an average when calculating needed capacity.*
    02:49 📊 *Formula: Expect 4 units per day per kW capacity for poly panels, 4.5 units per day per kW for mono panels. *
    04:11 ➕ *Recommends adding 10-20% buffer capacity for future increased electricity usage.*
    05:39 🧮 *Demonstrates calculation to determine solar plant capacity needed based on monthly electricity usage and billing.*

    Hi @geekyranjit... your videos are quite informative.
    I like to add suggestion to the question "what size solar plant we can have for our house?"
    I think the simple answer to that question is how much electricity load we have opted from our electricity supplier. We cannot get solar plant size more than the load we have.
    For example we have opted for 7 kW load for our house then we can have the solar plant maximum of size 80% of that i.e. 5.6kW. We can further reduce it as per our requirement..

I am sure you will cover indepth about the other components of the solar set up like inverters, protection systems, maintenance, do's and dont's for your solar systems etc. Can you also include a topic of integrating wind energy along with the solar system so that we can harvest energy at night as well as during rainy season. Thanks!

    Perfect timing - when we are finishing our house and Solar panels have always been from Day one in the scheme of things! Who better to TRUST than you Sir...
    I have this question - earlier I used (non solar use) to have the Lead acid batteries - now for the Solar I wanted to use the Lithium Ferrous phosphate batteries. Would it be possible to you let me know which is better - My dealer says, lithium is comparatively new in the Market so we should go with Lead Acid. But I am inclined towards Lithium way.

      Hi
      If you want subsidy based solar installation, then there are limited number of installers in each state.
      Govt. is only authorizing certain installers for subsidy based projects.
      Most premium installers are not doing subsidy based systems at all.
      In the end it’s all about good balance between quality and your budget
      You should Take ur own time to research properly

      And about hybrid inverter I can give u an idea:
      1. Chinese/rebranded Indian inverters: These are much cheap and work just fine if you have completely shadow free rooftop
      Some good hybrid brands are : Luxpower, Growatt, Deye
      2. Premium imported brands: These are only recommended if have medium to partially shadowed rooftop with complex rooftop orientations or if your budget is high. In normal conditions these perform slightly better than cheaper brands.But When you consider performance in partial shadow or cloudy days, that’s where these inverters truly make a difference because of their amazing algorithms for mppt. These are Apple level companies for inverters. They perform good but you may not necessarily need it.
      Some good imported hybrid inverter brands: Fronius gen24 series, SMA ,Sungrow

    Can we set up a plant of any capacity, or will it have any dependency on the max allocation that the municipality would have given? For example, I have an allocation of 5KW for my home in Bangalore. Can I set up a plat that could provide 8KW power? Or should it be less than or equal to 5KW ?

    • @shresthsonkar9207
      @shresthsonkar9207 9 місяців тому +1

      For on grid solar system, the max capacity of the solar plant should be same as your meter load
      Meaning you can only have 5kW solar plant on 5kW home meter
      For off grid, there’s no such cap, you can have as much off grid solar as your house roof and pocket allows (because off grid is not under govt subsidy)

    • @geekyranjit
      @geekyranjit  9 місяців тому +1

      No for on-grid the max they would allow you more than your meter capacity allocation, so in-case you want it for a higher capacity first you need to expand your load capacity from the electricity dept.

      I can give you an idea what you should be asking
      1. Ask them if they are selling you inverter and panels of Premium imported brands (Many Installers in Kerala, Tamilnadu and Bangalore are dealing in Top premium brands )
      Premium Imported inverter brands (Fronius, ABB, SMA, Delta, enphase micro inverters, Solar edge, Sungrow, etc)
      Premium imported Panel brands (REC, Sunpower-maxeon,Meyer Burger, TopCon and HJT models of Panasonic and Canadian solar, etc)
      FYI: Prices of premium brands are ridiculously high. In case panels almost 2 times more expensive than Indian brands. And almost 3-4 times more expensive for inverters than similarly rated Chinese or rebranded Indian brands 😂
      2. Ask them if they are selling Lithium Batteries. Good LFP Batteries can cost you upwards of ₹1.5Lakhs/100ah
      3. Stainless Steel, Hot dip Galvanised and Aluminum structures are also expensive especially if it’s a high rise structure.
      4. If the installer is selling you all premium brands inverter + panel + batteries , then 8-10 lakhs for sure
      5. If he’s selling Indian branded panels ( waaree, Adani, Vikram, Nexus, Goldi, Gautam) and Chinese/rebranded Indian inverter (Havells, Growatt, Polycab, Loom solar-fusion, Powerone) and stilling asking for 10lakhs, then he’s probably trying to loot you
      4. My suggestion: premium brands are not worth it in most cases, also if you buy premium then ROI can be as long as 10-15years or more.
      All the prices mentioned are as of Dec,2023.
      I hope prices come down but I highly doubt it 😂

    • @jitumishra3202
      @jitumishra3202 9 місяців тому

      That policy varies from state to state.
      In most states, consumer is credited with equal amount of units which have been exported. Those excess units carry forwards to next month and adjusted via net metering. In the end of financial year 31st march, all your excess units are lapsed and you start from zero exported units from 1st April every year. That way govt. pretty much takes away any unused excess units you generated for free.
      In some states, Electricity board does pay back at ~ ₹3.2/unit (varies from state to state) for any excess units generated which carry forwards to next month and you can opt to cash out to your bank account at the end of financial year and you start from zero exported units from 1st April onwards every year.

      In on grid you don't have to worry about batteries and excess power generation goes to meter.
      Then you can install double battery inverter to run small appliances in power cut
      Remember battery cost a lot and difficult to maintain in long run.
      Ongrid is cheaper than dual or off grid.

      Lithium batteries cost like 3-4x compared to Lead acid batteries as of now, it's still every expensive in India. Off-grid solar plants simply don't make sense, that why I said in my earlier video On-grid solar plants are the way to go with the net-metering which is available in most parts of India (Again for on-grid make sure you don't have daily long power cuts as they don't produce electricity during power cuts).

    I am asking this because I have 10KW mono perc system and it shows just an export of 20-35 units max , even in summers tha max was 38unit export.
    So i am curious to know if this 20-30unit export is the total generation or the net export?

    • @learndesignwithdev
      @learndesignwithdev 4 місяці тому

      Hmm. May be subtract the units generated and units mentioned in electric bill if you get it. Then you can deduce whether it's generated or supplied.

    Okay good vid BUT if someone dont want to be on grid and use no batteries ao should i still use 5kwh solar pannel beacuse i wont be able to use the production at night.
    so i should only install solar which is enough to run my day becuase at night i will have to use grid for acs, fans etc
    so maybe in the given example i should only go with 3kw
    ( Because batteries are the main cost and they need to be replaced every 5-7 years)

      Yes that's how it works, in India in most places it's 1 to 1 so you can pull back the number of units you have sent back and if you size you solar plant correctly you get close to zero bills.

    I think the sum u have shared with us is kind of wasting money from my perspective. Because It saves on around 2.5 to 3 lac(without fluctuation) of the lifespan of solar panel! And If I buy 1kw on-grid panel It will cost 1lac. As it is an electronic device I cannot anticipate the claiming span of company, so it is kind of not worth it for me. Please correct if I entirely wrong.

    • @shresthsonkar9207
      @shresthsonkar9207 9 місяців тому

      You can’t store that much long term at max you can generate during day and use at night
      On grid plant means that your excess generation is counted as credit and when you generate less and use more, first these credits are deducted then power pulled from grid

      Yes, it upto you how much you want to install. The max limit for on-grid would be based on the meter limit you have, but let's say your meter load limit is 5Kw, you can certainly put a 2-3Kw plant no one will stop you.

      @@maheshkalyanam5991In the end it depends on dimensions of your roof top and dimensions of the panels you choose.
      I have a tip for you. If you use smaller dimension panels, you will have more opportunity to squeeze in more kilowatts of panels
      Also technology of panel give you slightly extra kilowatt of panels in same space. Larger the plant, more space you save.
      So technology wise HJT > TopCon ~ Monoperc > poly
      Also bifacial panels can give 10-15% extra output in real life (On paper ~30% extra, but difficult to achieve)

      The approx cost for on-grid 5KVa Solar Plant with Mono Perc panels, on-grid inverter, net-meter, wiring, structure etc it should work out to be anywhere from 3.25 - 3.75 lakhs (this is without any subsidy).
      Try to get quotes from couple of providers I have seen variations of about 10-20% based on the installing company, if it's an established company that is in the market for a long time they do charge a bit of a premium.
