I'd say that's $55k well spent, absolutely beautiful job. Love the gentle mix of Scandi+Authentic Japanese design Wish I had trained in carpentry instead of electrics 😂
Never, ever underestimate the importance and value of a skilled and efficient electrician. It's a critical skill set so you don't burn down your meticulously renovated home AND your neighbor's homes on either side. ; )
One of the most critical parts of a house renovation project is the work of subcontractors, in terms of their competence, scheduling ability (when to start, duration of work, costing of materials and labour, contingency planning), etc. You had videos showing the frustration of dealing with the first carpenter (and his wife) to remove the post, and the satisfaction of working with 2 young carpenters (after replacing the first carpenter). How would you characterize your overall experience with local Japanese subcontractors, including for things like electrical/gas/plumbing, etc.? You have lived in Japan for several years, speak Japanese fluently, and know people in the trades; as such, you are certainly ahead of many foreigners who are considering to buy and renovate an akiya in Japan. They will inevitably run into the proverbial brick wall in many instances, especially in dealing with the subcontractors.
55,000 not bad for renovation almost making a new house, it came out pretty good. ❤ I’m very happy for you. Keep doing a good work. Very interesting video, thanks for sharing your journey.
Well done Anton , Ots the journey we all love , not the end result I'm glad you understand that. Lookingofrward to seeing you again sometime in 2024 . Lets Go !!
Hi Anton! I have been following the series with big intrest for some time now hehe. I think another interesting video would be to see you talk about the hotel upkeep. How much money it brings in, which seasons do more well, cleaning the place, guests feedbacks etc!
You mentioned how there was zero value in the house in your short. Did it really say that on the paper? Of all my houses in Japan, no matter how old or bad the condition, NONE of them ever said zero value on paper. And none of them were even that close to zero. My biggest project (which was my first big one as well) in Saitama took me 8 months on my own and 2.5 million yen to complete. Congrats to you. I know it's a lot of work, but I also know it can be a lot of fun...especially when you get to the end and you think, "Did I just do all that?" lol
Wow this is fascinating, I‘m dreaming of visiting Japan what to speak of living there or owning a house… Thank you for sharing your journey with me. I’m looking forward to the new projekt!👍
The price quoted in the video (55k USD) are only the renovation costs. I would estimate that the land purchase price would be as much as 5-6 times this in that area of Tokyo, Bringing the total price of the house likely between 350k - 400k USD. Still, pretty amazing job!
Hi Anton this home is amazing I was going to say that the space over the kitchen that is open for a big cost you could use a GLASS floor for that area so you can use it and still let the light in. I am interested in taking a long vacation in Japan several months I have a construction background and living there sounds interesting I will definitely keep watching your channel the heated floors was a bigA+
Herregud Anton! Bra jobbat Anton!🥰
You got it altogether Anton ! God has blessed you with an excellent mind to be the perfect candidate in giving Akiyas a new life and educating us about Akiyas
Nice work. I bought the kindle version of your book before they had a paperback option. What are the annual property taxes or fees that you pay for owning this house?
You did a lovely job with your house renovation. It's small by American standards, but certainly large enough for an AirBnB. Considering what you pay for a terrible house in many parts of the world, $55,000 isn't a lot to pay for a house. However, not many people could pay that much in cash as they're rebuilding it!
Can I ask after fully renovated, is that match with Japan Government safety level like earthquake safety or something else? I though if match with the safety level will be more expensive 😅
I'm very interested to buy an house in japan and get the Hotel licence. Wouldn't it make more sense to purchase a slightly more expensive property that requires less effort in renovations? Especially considering the costs (not very high individually) but that, when summed up, still add up to a considerable amount?
I would love to be able to buy an old house and rebuild it, I currently live in Fukuoka, will there be any possibility around here? Thanks for reading me, blessings!
Hello, I followed all with really big attention, you say you got the hotel license, I plan to do the same in Yamagata prefecture and I want to know if you get hotel licence or minpaku license? thanks.
So, how much does it cost to renovate an abandoned house in the USA??? in the Tokyo and Osaka areas the price can actually be higher, from $125k to $250k. $55k for renovating an abandoned house is very reasonable for the price
interesting information, good video. just a slight note for future videos, STOP playing with the the pen!! sounds like nails on a chalkboard. I'm dying 😢
It is so nice how you acknowledge all the people who helped you, with their names

@@le_th_ in my case its just unfortunate as I cannot obtain a Japanese visa with my electrical skills, they're looking for carpenters and machinists!
Nordic and Japanese designs are my favorite -- so combining them is delightful.

55.000 USD ?! For a renovated house in Tokyo? Wow. So amazing.

Definitely, Live Streams will happen!

❤Great work ! Can you tell us again the price of the house when you bought it please ? Thanks👍
thanks
glad u r well after that eathquake!
Dang, $55,000? Thats a bargain where i live. The house looks awesome.
200,000$ without the know how
55k for 480 sq feet. 😂 That is about the same price as the US depending on the city or town.
Can I ask after fully renovated, is that match with Japan Government safety level like earthquake safety or something else? I though if match with the safety level will be more expensive 😅

Do you have to renovate an akiya or can you just tidy up the place and live in it?
Since old homes are cheap due to their lack of seismic protection, in Japan, you'd rather do.
Also, idk if is mandatory
It shows what somebody can do it they put their mind to it.
How far away is it from Western Tokyo?
Shinjuku, Shibuya?
can you elaborate on the hotel permit?
Hi Anton,
Thank you for writing your book, it was very motivating reading it.
Did you buy the house with the land too or the house only (借地) ?
Anthon, next time you should use comma instead of a full stop when showing the prices.
It is the European way: we use . instead of , so 10k are 10.000,00 ❤
@@SandraOhmayer Thanks, I never knew that
Beautiful!!! Can you share the link of this house on booking/airbnb?
Link in the video description!

And the Garden?
Can you add a slide to total up the costs?
how much did it cost to buy that akiya ?
So, where can people find this Airbnb or rental house?
Link in the about section 🙏
How much was the purchase price?
Hello, I followed all with really big attention, you say you got the hotel license, I plan to do the same in Yamagata prefecture and I want to know if you get hotel licence or minpaku license? thanks.

Where is your hous3 in Tokyo so I can book it 😊
Is there another YT channel with the 1.7M subscribers?
Have I missed the kimono video, you were going to do?
55k???? What. That's cheaper than the USA omg.
