And here's my little book of Aesop's Fables in case you want to follow along. :) This version looks almost identical, but I see mine was published in 2014. And mine has a bear on the front cover. But I believe it's the exact same concept. A fun little book full of these thought-provoking stories from long ago.

How did you like Robert's performance?? I really enjoyed learning the concept of erasing 7's off the calculator using your finger... that was my take-away from this video! :) And how about the Aesop's Fable? Do you have any thoughts or experiences to add about this?
Jason Parker I had no idea about any of that stuff on the calculator! Thanks to Robert for sharing that!
And I think they missed the moral. What I took away from it is don’t chop a hollow tree fillies with bees. That couldn’t end well
"Utility is most men's test of worth" I think it means that utility/what's visible should not be the only test of worth because often times what is under the surface is more important.
hellasow no I don’t think I could fool them! :) they have so many years of experience
Brian Kinary hahah
@alphadawn2015 lennon THAT is the way to do the trick!
Great video. Personally, I am not a fan of any of these tablet or phone routines. I just find it to be inherently unmagical to do a trick on a digital display, on a programmable device. Every app is a magic trick, if any app is.
Yea, definitely.
I also feel Penn and Teller agree with you, too. I think he Fooled them. They were vague with giving reasons why he fooled them. Even the magician was like, 'Uhhh... No...?'
I think Penn and Teller were basically just saying, 'We don't care about digital app magic, because unless you're a programmer, there's no way to know. So you lose by default.'
Hey Jason. This is so nice!!!! Thank you for doing this. I appreciate it. If you’d like I’d love to send you Expert Phone Technique for free!
Awesome job! How's that box Robert?
Cool trick man!!! Very creative!!!
Loved both of your acts! You certainly fooled me
Hey Robert, thanks so much commenting here, and sure that would be great to learn some of those cool moves! I saw you posted your video on your youtube channel, so I made a link to it in my description now. :)
Can you send me? :D
I always feel like it takes some balls to have Pen & Teller to come up to the stage! Risktaker!
I'm not a big fan of "technology" magic because my 6 year old girl shows me things I didn't know all the time. Just feels cheap. Maybe in the era of everyone being very familiar with technology this kind of magic will be more impressive.
I know how you feel.
Carter ran an earpiece under that turban 100 years ago.
Don’t get me started on Promystic charging top dollar for stuff a high school robotics club can do.
It seems to always come down to the too perfect theory... if there’s only one way to do it that’s how they did it.
But really it comes down to the performer and how he uses the gimmick.
It crushed my ego when Magic Balay fooled me with a thumb tip .
I think if you can tell technology/ a gimmick is used that’s the problem , not the fact a gimmick is being used
JP and his navigation thru the complex and confounding world of tricky magical dexterity and prestidigitation!
Been watching for quite a long time now but you won my sub. It’s really simple you have clearly been listening to the comments and have adjusted and made compromises. Which is completely fair and how you grow a channel ! Keep the content coming and good work
You are so nice to everyone, you present finding the good in everything.
Hey Jason, just got introduced to your channel such amazing reaction videos love it!
hey Miracle J, glad to have you here and thanks! :)
Good performance, you can tell it was all sleightly well rehearsed expect the last part. The last part was truly programmed last second into the act and it was phenomenal.
that is one very nice routine . i am sorry he didn't get the trophy but still, i really hope people with power to put him in the right place will consider him as a very good magician. you should absolutely research phone magic cause it's a gust of fresh air. what we see in magic show with great magicians old guys is probably 10-15 tricks and 10+ variations of mixes of those. this kind of tricks can be considered novelty so it can bring an element of surprise on the stage.and like you said once, the average spectator won't spend his time disecting your routine, they will love the way you do it clean and nice and apparently easy but not really :) . very good Robert Ramirez :) .we need more original people like him.
It would be interesting to see bystander reactions to the calculator trick. Go for it! An accompanying reveal reaction would be interesting as well!
I think he fooled them. He did an excellent job of utilizing voice, shake, swipe, and type input features. I do not use fruity phones, so I cannot identify all of the swipe points, or identify the command after the voice input. But he did a decent amount of work to create a performance, that did probably use custom shake commands, and probably custom swipe commands.
He should have used a charger cord.
Great video, man. Thank you! You made my Monday better
happy to hear that Billy!
Glad you did another reading from the fables. Also, I don't have cable so I can't watch Penn & Teller unless it's a UA-cam video, so I'm glad you do so many of these.
That was fun to watch and well edited
I'm beginning to think you're the coolest person on UA-cam .... Love your channel J !
hahaha thanks Charles
A year late, but! "Utility is most mens' test of worth."
This is not testing the worth of the man, but the man testing the worth of a thing, in this case the tree.
He was going to chop it down because it had no apples--the tree didn't do anything for him.
He was not the one who used the shade, so when those who used the shade asked him to leave it, he was still going to chop it down--the tree still didn't do anything for him.
He only stopped chopping when he found the honey, which was something he could use--the tree now did something for him, so he left it standing.
So the moral is, MOST MEN will judge something's WORTH by how useful or beneficial it is; its UTILITY, if you will.
Merry Christmas.
thanks
Hilarious, the audience surprised, when he first swiped the phone
Technically, he already fooled them with erasing the 7s :D How cool is that. Never knew about that feature.
Day 7777 waiting for Jason to fool Penn and Teller .
I wanna see street magic Jason go for it, we would love to see that.
He's done it before.
@@andrewchoo8672 I want more :)
Andrew Choo He meant specifically the iPhone calculator street magic he asked for comments about in this video.
It's done with a screenshot, he really touch the buttons fast so that it won't be easily seen but he switched from calculator to photos specifically the screenshot of the number that Penn put in the calculator!
Nah. The very last thing he did, when the numbers jumped, was no screenshot. Those numbers clearly faded in, impossible to be a screenshot. I'm guessing Bluetooth to connect the two phones.
Yesss!!! Do street magic where you just make numbers disappear on your calculator!!! 😂😂
I usually hate phone and tablet magic, but the stuff you can do with someone else's phone, is the best.
Ending was great, watch out for those b-b-b-b-b-b-b-b-b (pun intended)! I also found this channel just now, great stuff!
Thanks for uploading and your interesting tales. We used to study Aesops fables at school many years ago.
As for the magic trick - it takes him 3 years to come up with that?
What a creative and fun act. :)
ya...this whole subcategory of phone magic is a tragic field in that everyone knows that "this device can do more than I am aware of" When an presentation has a pre-programmed mindset of "what you are about to do is based on my ignorance of how my phone works" feels more shameful to the observer than it is awe inspiring. Perfect example...the high water mark of this presentation was when he divulged to the audience that the whole "removing 7s" was just how the phone worked. That was the "oh cool" moment in that we learned something. From there on out the act went downhill as he basically said..."ah ha...you didn't know about that 7 thing did you...well let me show you some other things you didn't know about your phone, but this time I am not going to tell you how they work"
I do not like “pina coladas and dancing in the rain.”
I do like”pina coladas and getting caught in the rain.”
5:24 - the shake was to hide his magic index finger hitting the AC button lol
Cool effect. 👍👍
I am usually not a huge fan of cell phone magic because people know phones are able to do stuff but this video made me realize cell phone magic can be cool not because it fools you but because if done well it can still look and feel magical.
Great performance.
Hey Jason I would like to do reaction videos also , but am unsure of how to set-up everything in regards to the splicing the videos, etc...any tips or resources? Thanks!
that magic 7 is very impressive. im sure a lot of us do not know this function in the calculator app.
The best on the tube
@ 7:33, you can see him press the button to bring the numbers back. What he's doing is he's pressing the button on the bottom phone with the pad of his thumb and the 0 button on the other phone with the knuckle of his thumb in a quick sequence.
I'd love for you to do any street magic video!!!
you can see when he did the "flip erase" move he actually thumbed the AC button to clear it. all of it is just native functionality of the app and the phone.
The screenshot comment Penn made was directly connected to when he inverted the phone and wiped a 7 out dragging down. You can see the drag of his thumb also clear part of the notification line. Not sure if anyone else commented on that or not. Still, I thought it was fascinating that he built a whole trick out of the native calculator app and screenshots he takes in real time.
It was very neat, very skillful. I wish he’d done something like pulling the 7s off the phone and transferring it to a piece of paper or dropping a plastic 7 or something like that.
yes i been erasing 7s all night so cool ..i reckon if he had stuck with that he would have fooled them possibly ...thanks for posting ..
i think he means the majority of people measures how valuable something is based off what "they" can use it for (get out of it)
Raymond Chow ahhhhhhhhhhhhhh.... now I feel like an idiot! Again!! Lol. Thanks for explaining it! 👍🏻😄
"Utility" = usefulness. To him, the tree was only useful, and therefore valuable, after he discovered that he could get honey from it.
I had to scroll down a lot to find this. Well said!
I take this as men prefer function (bees produce honey - food) over form (birds provide pleasing sounds)
I'm not a magician. But the software engineer in me can't be fooled by anything that involves electronics ;)
My thoughts: Its not a regular phone. Its a "jailbroken" i-phone with a custom calculator app. Coming to the last part of the magic, notice how the phone is placed on Teller's hand without blocking the camera. That's because its running a modified optical character recognition program in background. It detects the number and makes it pop up on the screen! That's what Pen meant when he said - screen...shot - shooting the screen. OCR
Except for erasing the 7777, you can't do any of this in a regular phone.
Yes you're spot on again! I think l saw him depress as he blew. So the app that allows the phone to remove 7s by touching also allows touching anywhere on the phone window where any area can all enabled to have this amd other similar functions.
Perhaps that area of the phone he protects by holding the phone in there when he lets them depress the keys. 🤔 He kind of gave it away when he revealed this function to everyone. Perhaps he shouldn't have to give his trick more mystique?
You are like me. When I am reading a story to my learners, I try by all means not to make a mistake... And when I don't, I jump with ecstasy...
He is definitely using some "Sleight of Phones".
YEA....STREET MAGIC VID WITH A FRUITY PHONE PLZ
Rumors has it he is still in that box
You rock brother.
thanks man!
I came to like because i support people putting in work 🤷🏾♂️
Where did you go🤔👍 clever camera trickery - l.like it.
for the final move I'm thinking he took a screenshot and put it into a slideshow before he puts his phone on Teller's hand.
I want to see YOU on Fool Us
I don't have a fruit device but could this be done by use of NFC ?does apple allow this ?
How was I not already subscribed? Oops.....subbed with notification.
awesome! :)
it was cool to learn one cool thing about my calculator. ... super nifty and iv had a fruit phone for years. Fun and entertaining act, he has fun stage presence :)
Normalise calling it a fruit phone
You easily see him hitting the clear and back button on the phone. Screenshot was my first thought.
8:05
Penn was about to say something
3 years and that’s all he had 😂😂😂
It is indeed using stock software, you can learn it from his Expert Phone Technique (along with another nice effect too).
ok great to know, thanks! :)
I'm not a fan of that kind of illusion but it is ingenious to incorporate "glitches, bugs" with pre-loaded screenshots. Then it would be just a matter of how to switch screens without any obvious pressing of buttons, so to speak.
he scrrenshot 0 and put it on face ID screen block ... when he dissapear the numbers and put the result on 0 he just block his phone and when he unlock just put the new numbers and block it again to make it appear that loks still on 0 and when he put his face close or just the finger print unlock the numbear appear that is why at the end you can se his screen blink a little bit at 7:57
I like his personality quite a bit! The effect seems to be missing a hook for me personally. Perhaps a small story would've enhanced the performance. I'm not so into most tech magic because it requires a almost weird kind of focus and by it's nature it's starting off being distracting for me. I would've loved it if he somehow had the random number appear outside the device or something. VERY charismatic performer! Bravo@
You should do something on Piff the magic dragon, if you haven't already!! I will have to go look at your page to see if I can find something!! 😊😊
I want the fruit phone street magic video!
Utility refers to usefullness. I was beginning to expect it would point out the value of nature in what could have been very relevant today but he was pointing out the shallower assessment of the utility of nature only being recognised when it can be consumed directly, which is what has gotten us into this ecological crisis. The bees who live in the tree will provide him with honey, which to our basic survival instincts trumps everything else. Back then we weren't so short of sparrows so in fairness he wouldn't necessarily appreciate how much he'd miss them. Anyway... hope that helps. I really love that you share Aesop's Fables btw.
thank you!!! :)
still kinda wondering how the 2583 transferred, maybe I missed it in the explanation.
I hate phone, tablet, any electronic MAGIC. Coz it just all about custom apps and can be program.
there is some tricks that are pretty incredible (like open the locked phone) or "teleoporting' the phone... there is also some app where you can really do cool stuff, too.. but it's pretty rare
I agree ,Id even prefer Rubik's cubes magic to phones, but both are yaaawn! boring
it's not a custom app... it's all built into the OS functionality and it's ability to use NFC to communicate between phones...
@@ToeCutter454 Still, not impressive and it can be programmed.
@@xbxb it can... but the point here is that is wasn't... and no one said anything about "impressive"... i find people that own expensive shit and DON'T understand everything it can do is wasting a HUGE amount of $ on something a fraction of the cost can do for what they ACTUALLY need...
He used a custom app. Enter a number, then press +, then press AC, then press =. That's what he did with Penn's phone.
essentially, to make the numbers go to zero, he pressed a/c and he took screen shots previously to make it reappear
Can you react to Axel Hecklau on fool Us. I've put this on previously but my autocorrect altered his name
At the time I watched that episode I felt there were other magicians who warranted a reaction video more.... and its just a matter of finding time to film these videos. Not sure I'll have time to sweep back to him or not.... :-| Both AGT and Fool Us keep airing every week and it's about all I can do to keep up! haha
Utility = usefulness. Once the man determined that the tree was a source of honey which would continue if he left it alone, he decided it was worthy enough not to be cut down. Cool iPhone tricks, BTW.
Up till the last par it was obvious how he did it. Watch the flips and rotations on 0.25 and youll see he find the right buttons but just to early.
Only the last part is really interesting...his one he easily could push the button but how it revealed on penns phone im not sure
I am not a big fan of magic done with technology. It's similar to watching video editing tricks: looks awesome, but I feel cheated.
I did like his presentation and performance though, very solid.
I really enjoy your videos, you are my Tom Holland's Spiderman of the magic universe.
hahahaha....
Im not a magician but the first part of his trick is quite easy to figure as for the part with Penn's phone I have no clue how he did it
Yes please gather street magic
I think that calculator trick only works with Fruit Phones! But it's so cool
However I'm sure there's an app that does that on the Play Store
Please review Ben Hart from Britain's Got Talent.
I think the fable means something can be valuable if it's useful (for the crickets, birds, and bees) even if it is not what it supposed to be (fruit bearing). The test of worth is utility more than purpose.
why did Penn and Teller's number of 1492658 change to 2985316 without anyone noticing? Love your channel from Jupiter FL!!!!
Wow, Penn and Teller just amazes me how they can evaluate magic tricks in real time. It would be so cool to have top magicians get together. Each one evaluates someone's magic trick, then if they bust it. They have to reproduce the trick using the contestant's material in real time.
This would be such a cool theme.
I think, if you use the calculator than at the same time (multitasking) you can use another app/programm (self made) that controls the input of the fruit-phone, using the sensors in the phone or special places on the touchscreen.
Greetings from germany and sorry for my english. Have a nice time :)
Wizzard Rincewind
thanks for your comment! Your English is just fine, and greetings back to you! I'm not in Germany but I've visited before and enjoyed seeing the country :)
Me trying to get the 7 in my calculator on my Android.
Why is it not working ?!!!
fruit
notice how he asked if it was a fruit phone the trick probably wouldn't work with androids
Exactly! It doesn't work on droids.
it was more likely because he wanted to make the illusion that it would work on a spectators fruit phone and not his own. Kind of messes up the illusion if the other phone isn't using the same app as that's what makes it impactful imo
I didn’t get it the last one. Its make me hungry😂
he scrrenshot 0 and put it on face ID screen block ... when he dissapear the numbers and put the result on 0 he just block his phone and when he unlock just put the new numbers and block it again to make it appear that loks still on 0 and when he put his face close or just the finger print unlock the numbear appear that is why at the end you can se his screen blink a little bit at 7:57
I am sure that with 218 comments someone has explained utility is most men’s test of worth but it was easier to write this than read through those comments to confirm my suspicions.
The tree proved to have a purpose beyond shade it provided him with honey and as such demonstrated utility. For this reason the man did not continue to remove the tree it became worthwhile in the mind of the man hence…utility/use being his personal and also most men’s measure for something being worthwhile.
Interestingly this helps explain why in a fast paced and constantly changing world older people are separated and warehoused waiting to die as in such a society they are often seen as having no significant worth any longer.
They are physically slowed by time and seemingly out of step with the way of things. Though I have been able to spend time in a society that honours its elderly….they typically live on with their children and take an active role in caring for the next generation while their own children spend time at work. Themselves having an ongoing purpose/function tended to be healthier and live on longer, the children seem to flourish are more fully developed as individuals, have a greater sense of society….perhaps there is more commonly honey in that old tree than not, and the moral should have pointed to looking more carefully before resorting to the axe.
honestly i feel he could have gotten away with the swipe to erase feature by only using it in a part of the routine. the same as shin lim did with the pen on his first appearance. just my opinion.
People in the comments are not exited about smart phone magic. It is probably because the smart phone is a magic on its own.
Drat, the disappearing 7 thing doesnt work on my Samsung boo!!!
Do the 7 magic tricks
I'm excited to see street magic but card trick is waayy better than 7s
it won't work w the calc. on my Pixel3 "(
sorry... :(
I wish I had a fruit phone so when I add up my bills each month I could magically remove a didget or two!
Was the Bluetooth feature used as he wave his phone over Penn's?
haha... and I don't know how it would be.. but im not on expert on tech magic..
Can u plz react to Kelvin Chow on fool us
The only kind of electronic magic I find impressive is when they make physical objects appear from the devices.
screenshot was when they could not let the sevens disappear.
Anyway I like how he did not use special apps. He can do this with any fruit phone. I think that tricks you can do with any deck of playing cards are way more powerful than those where you use gimmicked deck.
I think he just multiplied the number because once you have a result it won't let you erase by swiping. The screenshot was the final trick. He screenshot the app with a zero and screenshot of the app with the numbers. He then went to photos, selected both (or more), then pressed slideshow with the dissolve effect. All he had to do was pass the phone underneath with the timing so it'd look like the numbers jumped. The slideshow would have eventually ended so he grabbed his phone back fairly quickly for this reason.
