I'm really fortunate to have a microbrewery close by that is happy to give me some of there yeast when I'm brewing my ale, but I have to be totally ready to use it that day. They gave me all the help I needed to use it properly and boy does it go :)
Used liquid yeast alot in the past and made some great beers. But loving the range and quality of dry yeasts these days. So I pretty much only use dry yeasts now. But it's fantastic the range of dry and liquid yeasts available to us homebrewers now.
It’s a thing of beauty that recipe kit. I’ve brewed it many times and, always make it up to 23 litres it comes out perfect. Reaches terminal gravity in 5 days if you make a 1.7 litre starter
Yeah for me it’s always liquid yeast. Whitelabs to be more specific, that WLP 4040 is a beast of a yeast I’ve used that one solely with the bells two hearted clone many times. 1.7 litre starter and it’s done in 5 days. I should really stock up on my yeast for backups. Thanks for the informative video 👍🏻
Great topic... I’ve heard others using expired dry yeast as a yeast nutrient in the boil as you would a normal yeast nutrient... interested in your thoughts on this, I’ve many packets of expired yeast that I can’t bring myself to throw out. Cheers for the great context...
I have only used liquid yeast once, a 'Smack Pack' and as you implied the lag time was long and as I was approaching it with a packet of S-04 it started!! I have a Stir Plate and a Conical Flask (only 1 Litre I think cos I was being frugal) but have only used that now and then for some dried yeast rehydration. Is it possible to get the various instructions for your liquid yeasts prior to purchase so that I can have an idea before I commit to 'if' and 'which variety' to chose, there are many types as well as manufacturers. A very informative video for us. Thank you.
Thanks for the comment James. We have some information for each yeast supplier but will make it more accessible. As you say the more information our customers are armed with the better.
@@themaltmiller8438 Thanks, I must say I have been put off in the 9long ago) past by being unsure about a product which is relatively more expensive than I am using already. Thanks for the response

when i made the Two hearted with the liquid yeast it was the thickest sticky fragrant krausen i have ever seen in 20 years of home brewing.

We love that kit and have worked hard on the recipe so that it comes very close to the original!
Glad you’re enjoying it!!
comes a very close second to the
Urban IPA kit ( which I am about to do for the fifth time, but upping the dry hop ) as my favourite .. lovely drink .

You can always try it, it won’t do any harm. Just be sure to boil for at least 15mins, you don’t want it actually fermenting!!
