I'm really enjoying seeing reactions from someone that truly loves and understands the incredible talent that is Jinjer:)....especially with the Meshuggah and Periphery references!! And yes this riff is one of the most recognizable Jinjer riffs there is:) I've seen them do this live to and Tatiana belted that note perfectly even live!! She's a beast and theyvate all incredible yet still so humble. Thanks, keep up the great reactions!!
Both Eugene and Roman posted a lot of play-through videos for their songs on the Jinjer UA-cam channel. These videos helped me to understand what is going on musically in their songs. As a gateway song I like to play "Who Is Gonna Be The One", you do not even need a baritone guitar to play the album version.
Great reaction my friend. I Speak Astronomy is still my 3rd favorite Jinjer song. You are correct, Dmitry is on the kit, he's just a machine, different drumming style than Vlad, but still phenomenal. They've played this live consistently at their recent shows, including when I saw them in Los Angeles last October, and Vlad plays it almost identical as Dmitry does, very subtle differences, but it basically sounds the same. On that note let's all keep Ukraine in our thoughts and prayers as they are dealing with a horrible situation, I believe Eugene, Roman, and Vlad are still in Kyiv, Tati is in California from what I've read. I just hope that this conflict will end so no more innocent lives are lost. I love Jinjer, and at this point their music isn't even important in a sense that for me it's secondary, what is important is that Eugene, Roman, Vlad and all of the citizens of Ukraine try to remain as safe as they possibly can. Keep up the great reactions my friend, stay Metal, but most importantly, keep Ukraine in our thoughts and prayers. 🇺🇦🇺🇦🇺🇦🇺🇦♥️♥️🤘🤘🤘🤘🎶🎶🎶🎶
If you're interested in trying to pick apart Roman's playing, you could consider listening to Dead Hands Feel No Pain off their latest album Wallflowers. It's one of their more guitar forward tracks (also one of my favorite Jinjer tracks in general). It's not really a part of the rounds of reaction/analysis videos because there's no music video, but it's a brilliant song nonetheless and should really be highlighted. Colossus off the same album is also a good one to look into.
@@PrymalChaos - Up until the King of Everything album they tuned to drop C, they only changed to drop A after Dmitriy Oksen left the band and kept that tuning since. You should definitely check out Roman's playthrough videos, there's one for this song too. 🙂
In an interview with Elizabeth (The Charismatic Voice), Tatiana (sp?) said that the "guys" work to create the songs, the music and rhythm, by themselves and then she's asked to come in with the lyrics and melody. This might explain why the rhythms are so different, they weren't built around a working melody but as an instrumental first.
About the intro to this song: I have seen a lot of people draw a comparison to Rush's song "YYZ", which is a song that utilizes Morse code to form the rhythmic patterns. This song, at its core, is about communicating something over distances using science and technology as a vehicle, so its very interesting to me at least that the intro sounds an awful lot like a Morse code transmission
Great observation! I don't know much about Rush other than their reputation, however anyone who loved Guitar Hero knows YYZ like the back of their hand. 😁🤘
I loved the fact that you brought up STP as well and saw the horrible situation going on through an eye focusing on people not governments using media trying to use sway opinions to people who have no idea about the how’s, why’s and implications of it all. We all have our own views but the one common thing we have is music and that builds bridges and doesn’t break them.🤘🤘🤘. Much respect and yeah, it’s a great song♥️
Man, somehow I missed this one when you dropped it. Where was I? It's one of my favorite Jinjer songs. Hopefully by now you've seen one of the live videos of it. They have the one from Resurrection Fest and one from Wacken. Keep 'em coming. Maybe "Retrospection" live in Melbourne next, It's a killer.
Ah, yeah. The I speak astronomy. I remember she once said it was her favorite, but that was all pre - Macro. One of my favs for sure. By now I'd like your opinion on "Outlander" and "Bad water". I'm not religious, but all my "prayers" go to the poor people suffering there and hope this absolute inhuman madness ends yesterday.
You nailed that last break. Regarding the videos, King is were Jinjer's image started to be more 'professional'. Tatiana doesn't have the dreads and they aren't wearing sweat pants with pot leaves all over the place. You can also check their tattoo progression. Am not sure when the drummer change as Vlad is the drummer is the Pisces video. You should listen to it but you already know the gimmick. But as you listen more, you can really tell their musical progression as artists through their albums.
@Prymalchaos awesome take on this song, and in a very academic sense you should totally connect with UA-camr JW Soundworks to more fully explore the technical attributes of their playing, as he has the stamp of approval of the band, and has helped to explain (for me at least) some of their unexpected and incongruous elements (that have totally pulled me into their music) Cheers
Thanks for another great reaction. Please react to "Retrospection" (OMV). It is Jinjer's metal love letter to their parents separated from the band because of their touring schedule, politics and war. The OMV gives a glimpse into the band's life that one normally doesn't get from other bands. With everything going on, it is a very poignant video. 💙💛🌻
Another great analysis Mr PC ! One of my all time fave Jinjer tracks. Mentioned this before, Roman always seems to get left out when it comes to gushing about a particular member of the band. Truth is he's as incredibly talented as the rest of the guys. He drives huge chunks of the melody and all that mid range of the song with killer riffs, wonderful phrasings and super accurate playing. Perhaps its the nonchalant way he goes about it that throws many people off. Most of his stuff isn't that hard to learn in isolated chunks, but keeping it clean and accurate from start to end is the real challenge as it's almost always moving around the fretboard, shifting timings and there's never really any let up to catch your breath. As you mentioned, probably the hardest part to get to grips with is the groove if your focus all these years has been traditional rock, but I think you may be surprised how quickly you can pick it up. Roman was pretty much the inspiration for me biting the bullet last year and adding an extended range fanfret to my collection, and so far I've had a total blast learning some of their songs. If you do decide to have a stab at learning some of their stuff... Ultimate Guitar & Songsterr have a wealth of Jinjer tabs, plus Roman has quite a few playthrough's that can help fill in any gaps, tab inaccuracies and play techniques. And you can kick it off in Drop D if you're not ready to set up an axe for Drop A. As for sounds, if you don't have a 5150/6505'ish amp lying around there are literally scores of plugin options. My personal faves are the old but trusty TSE X50, Line 6 Helix (Peavey Panama), and the Ampcraft 1992 which is a new plugin from Kazrog and has quickly become my go to. IR's I use Coffee Cabs profi pack which are Roman's actual IR's that he runs to front of house for live gigs, but there are plenty of other great IR options out there to get you close.
Dude! Thanks so much for the info, he really is a brilliant player. I think the key would be doing ANY form of practice at all! 😂 I just can't seem to find the time.

@@PrymalChaos You will until you run out of songs. Seriously. There is not one song from them that I don’t at least appreciate in some aspect. Like Tool, for me, they have a no skip catalog 🖤
Hey, I’ve really liked all of your Jinjer reaction/analysis videos that I’ve watched so far (more to come!). I just watched Jinjer’s “live from Madrid” video earlier today and not only is the mix and audio quality great, but they do an absolutely fantastic version of this song. Everyone in the band is at the top of their game on that live performance, including Vlad, who I was paying attention to because he had joined the band only a couple months before the live video was shot and he nails this technically challenging song.
IMO the easiest Jinjer song to start playing their newer-ish stuff on guitar is Words of Wisdom. On the Top is a bit harder, but a good second song to learn because it meanders into odd timing a bit at times. Judgement and Punishment also has some odd stuff with the strumming pattern of the chorus. Anything off of Wallflowers is miles harder than any of their previous work and I have yet to learn any of it, but YMMV. Roman uses 14-68 string gauge for drop A and 12-60 for their older drop C stuff. Floyd-style guitars with locking nuts can fit both of those gauges without modification, but a standard nut needs to be slotted otherwise.
Pisces sounds a bit different on the album because it's Dimitry's drum arrangement vs. Vlad's. That was kind of the whole point of doing the 2018 Live session with Vlad because his arrangement was notably different from the album version.
You mind find these interesting: Dmitry drum play through (Partial) - ua-cam.com/video/jELn-TFx2ow/v-deo.html Roman guitar play through - ua-cam.com/video/m5JZWQxNhBI/v-deo.html
You're right about that part when they play it live. Roman does the higher melodic part and Eugene and Vlad do the lower rhythmic part without the chunky guitar being there. There isn't as far as I know a decent live recording of that song. There is one that's okay and you can at least tell how they handle it. A good live one is "Captain Clock" at Resurrection Fest. It's another really dynamic performance on par with the live Perennial version. It's basically five minutes of intense Tatiana flavored girl power.. The band as usual is incredible too.
I would love to watch you react to some of their playthroughs. They are amazing, and I have never seen anybody break them down. They do them for most of their songs.
I don't know Jinjer's full history well enough, but I believe that this drummer isn't Eugene - its the previous percussionist. Definitely a different style (and kit setup).
Just like with Sit, Stay, Rollover, there are actually 2 guitarists on the album recording, Roman and Dmitriy Oksen. Dmitriy left the band prior to the recording of the video. So there are a lot of layered guitar harmonies.
I haven't listened to Jinjer before this video. So a journey together. They seem heavily influenced by BTBAM/DreamTheatre. I really enjoyed the track I'll have to look into more thanks for the intro. You want really complex timing and riffs just hit shuffle on BTBAM discography. Extremophile Elite by BTBAM is good place to start
@@PrymalChaos your selkies reaction made me sub instantly. I was like. "This guy understands how complex this is, can't wait to see more of his reactions
Tati once said she writes her lyrics last minute and in her native language. THEN she translates them. She said it’s weird how perfectly they translate. If you haven’t yet. Home Back by Jinjer is about the war environment they grew up around in Ukraine prior to recent events. But with what’s happening now the words hold even more weight.
Yeah I heard about that process and I find it pretty odd and not that convenient, cause I'm sure by now (then) she's already perfectly capable of thinking in English, why complicate it with the translations? Strange.
@@tomislavkosanovic1104 I think she explained it that since Russian is her first language, the concepts for her lyrics normally start out in that language without there being the immediate thought process of "start them out in English" that comes later. I hope that makes sense
@@neilpatrickhairless Course it does. Whatever works for her. But I assume, since her lyrics in a number of songs seem pretty smooth flowing, that the initial ideas undergo some adaptation. It would be too obvious otherwise. Just my thoughts, not that I ever tried either :)

Aloha PrymalChaos! You made a very short comment about your own background in music while doing this Reaction. If I heard correctly, you said you have some blues in your past. If that is the case, I'd like to invite you to do a reaction to a roots blues rock band out of Nashville, Larkin Poe. The Lovell sisters, Rebecca(guitars, mandolin, banjo and lead vocals) and Megan(slide lap steel, dobro and backing vocals) have been independent artists since 2010 with their own record label. They have a UA-cam channel, with many covers and original songs. 4 EPs, 8 albums and a new one expected this summer. These Grammy nominated artists are very passionate and committed to their craft. Please check out this live performance from 2016; It's 2 songs in one. Tom Devil is based on gospel stomp and clap genre blues. Then they segue into an original song, "I hate the you.." Cheers!
Thanks Gen. I may have mentioned that my playing is very blues based meaning rock guitar essentially. Lots of bending and playing in E 😂 I do however appreciate good blues music so I'll take a look!
Hey if you get a chance, I'm not sure you'll want to do a review or not, but shortly after the Australian tour Tatiana did a song/video with 12 foot ninja...it is one of the wierdest videos I've ever seen and it's funny as hell too it's called "Over and Out" I think. Anyway, awesome thanks, I appreciate your anti-hate P.S.A.
Today is the 31 of march. -- 573 Ukrainian children died (200 of them died in Mariupol) -- For the first time I received a message from Kherson about the fact of rape of Ukrainian women by the occupiers. The woman wrote, claiming that only six of the 11 raped women survived. So you are trying to say... any Russians who are against the war are innocent....just say it and it's done. Is it not too easy.......? No need to do much.
Watch out on the live version... many of the live versions of this are pretty disappointing. Live at Summer Breeze 2018, for example, has nice, crisp sound, but about half way through the song, I think Tati's monitor wasn't working or something, and she went way, _way,_ *way* off key for most of the rest of the song. Like, anywhere from half a step to two and a half steps flat. It's super cringey for me, but also proof that their live performances are for real. (To be fair, this is a _hard_ fuckin' song to sing; it's always second or third in a set for a reason, after she's warmed up and before her voice is tired, in the sweet spot.) There are other duds you can find (Pisces from Wacken Open Air, with the gold jumpsuit, is godawful, for example), so they're not always perfect, and definitely for real, but when they're on, they're on! Summer Breeze is also not an official video, which... could be good or bad, I dunno. It's on a magazine's channel. Also, I think it was a fairly early performance of it with Vlad, and I don't think the drumming is quite as evolved as it is in the others. Live at Melbourne is a fantastic concert, but the sound is a little muddier. It's only available as a full concert (officially), but I'll give you a link queued up to the right spot to avoid spoilers. The playing and singing was _much_ better, but the slightly muddy sound makes the drums a bit harder to pick out, since you were interested in the difference from Dmitriy to Vlad. It's an official video, and Napalm, so probably safe from a copyright perspective, as Napalm _likes_ reactors. (By muddier, please understand, it's still amazing sound, absolutely worthy of its release as a stand-alone live album, and better, in many ways, than Summer Breeze... it's just _specifically for the drums_ it's not as crisp). Hellfest @ Home is a _fantastic_ recording, and they played very well, but since it was a live concert to nobody, the missing energy and interplay between the band and the crowd is... conspicuous, to say the least. They did a good job pushing through it, but it feels pretty weird at times, especially when a song ends, and instead of a massive roar from the crowd, there are just literal crickets chirping away. It's also probably a bit stickier from a copyright perspective, since it was a paid concert (I watched it live), and I'm not sure about the legality of streaming it after the fact, though it's definitely available to be found. Soooo... I think if it were my channel, I'd do Melbourne. Plus, I mean, it's Melbourne. Actually, that whole concert is amazing! Maybe a full concert reaction is in order? Huh? Huh? :D Anyway, take your pick: Summer Breeze: ua-cam.com/video/0Shp1vmiuQc/v-deo.html Melbourne (queued): ua-cam.com/video/vHLouXKjTNQ/v-deo.html Melbourne (concert): ua-cam.com/video/vHLouXKjTNQ/v-deo.html Hellfest (queued): ua-cam.com/video/ByU5KM_ADp4/v-deo.html
Awesome info! Thanks mate! I 100% appreciate the queued link too. I really try to keep this channel authentic, so I do my best to avoid spoilers. In truth I'll probably get to all of the live stuff eventually. I am loving the Jinjer rabbit hole. I'm just spreading them out a little otherwise it will be all Jinjer all the time! 😂

Floyd-style guitars with locking nuts can fit both of those gauges without modification, but a standard nut needs to be slotted otherwise.
Oh yeah I hadn't considered the whole buy thing. That's insane!
Pisces sounds a bit different on the album because it's Dimitry's drum arrangement vs. Vlad's. That was kind of the whole point of doing the 2018 Live session with Vlad because his arrangement was notably different from the album version.
I love the riff. Definitely takes a few listens, though. I have a feeling they more often add a beat rather than take it out.
Yeah. That riff haunts me.
You mind find these interesting:
Dmitry drum play through (Partial) - ua-cam.com/video/jELn-TFx2ow/v-deo.html
Roman guitar play through - ua-cam.com/video/m5JZWQxNhBI/v-deo.html
I certainly will.
Thanks for the info!
I would love to watch you react to some of their playthroughs. They are amazing, and I have never seen anybody break them down. They do them for most of their songs.
Yeah. It's on my list of things to do. Unfortunately that list is looking more like a spreadsheet. 😆
I don't know Jinjer's full history well enough, but I believe that this drummer isn't Eugene - its the previous percussionist. Definitely a different style (and kit setup).
Eugene is the bassist, the current drummer is Vlad.
Drummer in video is Dmitry.
@@valeriedavot9074 Sometimes there is a bit of confusion - Jinjer used to have a drummer also named Eugene
The plot thickens....
Just like with Sit, Stay, Rollover, there are actually 2 guitarists on the album recording, Roman and Dmitriy Oksen. Dmitriy left the band prior to the recording of the video. So there are a lot of layered guitar harmonies.
Ahhh that makes sense! Thank you!
I reacted to Selkies. Great song!
@@PrymalChaos your selkies reaction made me sub instantly. I was like. "This guy understands how complex this is, can't wait to see more of his reactions
Dimitry's drumming is awesome, Terry Bozzio'ish
Loved very idea you mentioned at the end for new content.
The riff in the first two verses is 6/8, 7/8, 6/8, but the last bar is split into 4 one and a half beat intervals.
Live version is my fav 😍
I need to check that out.
Enjoyed this immensely, as always.
Thanks mate!

Home Back is phenomenal.

Oh I'm gonna have to watch that playthrough! Although I suspect that he will make it seem effortless and it will crush my spirit as a guitar player. 😂
@@PrymalChaos Eugene does the same to me as a bassist! Oh, you probably already know, but the tuning is Drop A when you're ready to tackle a playthrough of your own!
@@robertwillingham1965 yeah I spotted that. Gonna have to detune one of my less lethal guitars.
Did you already react to 'Who Is Gonna Be The One' (live video)? Did we forget about that? It's a must watch! 😉
It's on the schedule. 😜

... great, knowledgeable commentary and reaction to one of most beautiful Jinger songs ...
... what you said at the beginning is essential to appreciate music, or in general, life and people... music, like love, has no borders and can unite us surpassing any more or less natural differences and artificial divisions ...
... driven by the love of music and great talent, i'd like to recommend amazing singer from Russia, Daria Stavrovich aka Nuki [if you don't mind Russian language]:
... here is her 'main' band The Slot [20 year anniversary this February, sill going strong, Daria joined in 2006] song The Slot - Contrl+Z [tour montage video, real live audio] ua-cam.com/video/jT3fEdO2RNI/v-deo.html ...
... here is her solo project [4 albums already] simply called 'Nuki' with official video to a song 'We move on ' [Prodolzhaem dvizhenie] ua-cam.com/video/tauO9ftTY2k/v-deo.html
p.s. im not russian, but love them for 10+ years ...
I'll take a look! Thankyou!
Lots of bending and playing in E 😂
I do however appreciate good blues music so I'll take a look!

Hey Tyler... You mean this one?! 😜

GLORY TO UKRAINE
Today is the 31 of march.
-- 573 Ukrainian children died (200 of them died in Mariupol)
-- For the first time I received a message from Kherson about the fact of rape of Ukrainian women by the occupiers.
Huh? Huh? :D
Anyway, take your pick:
Summer Breeze: ua-cam.com/video/0Shp1vmiuQc/v-deo.html

Melbourne (concert): ua-cam.com/video/vHLouXKjTNQ/v-deo.html
Hellfest (queued): ua-cam.com/video/ByU5KM_ADp4/v-deo.html
Awesome info! Thanks mate! I 100% appreciate the queued link too. I really try to keep this channel authentic, so I do my best to avoid spoilers.
In truth I'll probably get to all of the live stuff eventually. I am loving the Jinjer rabbit hole. I'm just spreading them out a little otherwise it will be all Jinjer all the time! 😂
It definitely is one of their best! No doubt! 🔥🤘🔥
