Parents of Lafayette Sunnyside student who died by suicide speak out about bullying

- Part three of a three-part special report on claims of ongoing bullying at Lafayette Sunnyside Intermediate School. This report is sharing the story of a family who claims their daughter took her life as a result of the bullying she faced at the school.
I used to go to sunnyside during this time and so many people were affected by this even me i didnt know her fully but my friends were close to her. The adults there should have took action and did something to prevent this. That day people heard about her the councilors literally had to take out a bunch of students from class because they were crying so much i went also with my old friend. Its sad to see this and be reminded of it again and i hope the school does better with the bullying issue. Me and my friends notice how some of the guys that were bullying her was mocking her death and still making fun of her so i truly do hope her family is doing ok and is well.🙏🙏💗
As a 6th grader in sunnyside, I remember back in 3rd grade when i heard abt Ashleys death, she attended my church and its school and i saw her sometimes, she was kind and now im here in this school crying almost every week due to bullying, all cus of my face, me helping someone get w someone else and getting told to back off and cussed out, and idk i js get targeted a lot and made fun of for no reason. Everything hurts and i’ve attemped ykyk more than once and watching this breaks my heart. My love goes out to kids at my school being bullied and to their parents who had lost their kids

This is not just in Sunnyside intermediate middle school it’s a problem in all of Lafayette schools
I attended Sunnyside as a 6th grader in 2018. I feel hurt to know that the kids now drive others to suicide.
i agree with this. sunnyside was definitely the worst (and still kinda is) in LSC. i will say though, the elementary school and middle schools like tecumseh or earhart are doing pretty good.
when i was at sunnyside-6th grade-i sent an email to a counselor saying i was having thoughts about hurting myself. the person responded saying something along the lines of "i can't talk right now, i'm in a meeting, i'll get back to you later.". I can't remember the exact email, but it was along the lines of that. long story short, i didn't get anything back from that counselor ever.
in a nutshell, i never ever want to go back to sunnyside. the organization there... well there wasn't any organization. from what i had heard, there was multiple fights breaking out each day/week.
i typically an an A/B only student. that year (2019 through 2020) i was dropped down to typically having only b's and some c's here and there. but when i went to e-learning at the very last leg of the schoolyear, i finished it with all a+'s. my point being, there was a huge problem with the in person learning.
meanwhile, at tecumseh, they have a therapy program (i believe so) and also plenty of people you can talk to, as well as counselors who actually listen. i emailed counselors at tecumseh multiple times, and i always got a response-even if it were a day later. i would still always at least get a response.
i kept the ENTIRE schoolyear at tecumseh with ALL A+'s (in person), except for 2 pesky B's which were in math... never was too good at math, lol.
then we are to the part of LSC themselves not exactly taking these problems into account. from what i know (this part isn't fact based, this is solely from myself) is that LSC didn't exactly do too much about what happened at sunnyside-neither did the administration of sunnyside. i believe that the administrative staff and some other 3rd party companies at tecumseh are the only ones who are running the therapy programs as well. please correct me if im wrong on some things.
summing it all up, yeah there are definitely a lot of problems solely that are responsible for LSC, but it seems to me personally that only a lot of them arise with sunnyside.
now i don't know about other schools, seeing as i've only gone to earhart elementary (kindergarten to 4th grade) (that school was great as well, my experience was amazing), sunnyside (5th grade to 6th) and now currently at TJHS for my 8th grade year. i can earnestly say that tecumseh has been my best experience out of the other two. im excited for HS.

@Camy right, ive reported a few kids for harassing me and the counselors only give them warnings and the students dont even care

Anyone else tired of bullies, whose parents need to handle, making other children feel bad about themselves. I say it should be automatic suspension or expelled PERIOD!
i get bullied bc i have to wear the same jeans and sweat pants every week and bc im smaller and doesnt seem tough ive told my parents they've done nothing ive also told teachers but thhey've done nothing

I wish i can be able to help you, i’d love to protect you as well, My names Katelyn and im a 6th grader and trust me this school aint fun at all, as someone who is being severely bullied and attempted ykyk a few times, it’s hard and hurts a lot at times, i’d say create a friend group, a big one, even if they arent in your class thats alright, i have two real friends in my class but i have a whole friend group during WIN/Intervention, lunch, band, and recess, I hope one day i could be able to meet you one day and help you out through the bullying, i would NEVER EVER want anyone going thru any type of harm, like i did.
i am going to this school and idk if i should go since people say this is a bad school after seeing this
i cant beleve that this girl was my new freinds bestie when she went here.
