I love those videos, especially seeing how developers really pushed these limited machines to, or even beyond their limits
Legend Of Mana looks jaw-droppingly beautiful to this day. You can tell that game was a product of love by the people involved.
It’s such a beautiful game!
Yeah dude, its magical. You may want to look into Echoes Of Mana Mobile dude, it is similar with Legend Of Mana.
so true. It's a magical game in every sense
@@CarlosBehrens3D
Your ass is magical. Legend of Mana is 2D. Nothing special for its time. No visual superiority over any AAA title for its time.
Tenchu 2 is one of my favorite PS1 games. it's such a great stealth game.
One of the greats!
Yeah its like Sekiro PS1 version
I like Tenchu but I never played Tenchu 2 but I love Tenchu Z
@@taejules1482 I personally think 2 is way better than the first one. Story is better and feels more fluid. There's also a level editor where you can unlock the office of the developers and all the guards are in suits.
@@bigedwerd I'm going to go on and invest in a ps1 next after I'm done collecting for my dreamcast so I can play tenchu 2
Raystorm is a very fun game and impressive graphics on the PS1 for it's time. The follow up Raycrysis is an entirely different beast altogether. Interesting Raystorm is also on the Taito Legends 2 compilation on the PS2 if anyone is interested.
Delta Force was sooo underrated tbf, my grandpa bought me that game when i was a child and i played a few FPS before like Medal of Honor or Quake 2 but Delta Force looked so great, the missions were realistic and the graphics were amazing
Quake 2 with a multi tap and 3 other friends was always a great time and ran smooth enough to enjoy.
R-type DELTA was a surprise for me, the graphics still holds up! there is also Pop'n Tanks!
You should check alone in the dark, this game have "dynamic ligthing", and maybe parasite eve 2 it's like resident evil with pre-rendered graphics, but some parts of the level are animated and it does follow the player.
Thanks for the tip Skate, I’ll have to include it for part 4 🙂
Are you speaking of Alone in the Dark: The New Nightmare? Dude that game introduced me to survival horror, and it totally spoiled me with its dark and gloomy atmosphere, as I only discovered Resident Evil afterwards, and in comparrison saw it as a complete parody on the genre. Like, Alone in the Dark actively put my 13 year old self on edge with its foreboding atmosphere, where as RE with its hoaky acting just made me laugh. In sort, RE don't have shit on AitD.
I mean the title call alone sets the tone. Resident Evil (which is a goofy name compared to Alone in the Dark) starts with an over acting guy saying "Resident EVIL!!". Where New Nightmare just has a sombre guy saying "Alone....... in the Dark", and I don't know why, but I always LOVED that slight pause he does before the "in the dark" part.
@@PikaLink91 PS1 had 2 Alone in the Dark games: One Eyed Jack's Revenge (1994-95) and New Nightmare (Also released on PS2 & Dreamcast 2001)
@@PikaLink91 Then there was the reboot on PS2/Xbox 360/wii(?) in 2008 that had poor reviews & considered the downfall of the series
@@wizkaqueefa9003 Oh well, that one hit was more horror than RE1-3 combined.
Quake 2 has a very smart Key maping, that allows to move and aim at same time with ps1 controler. The splitscreen in multiplayer was amazing, too. Fast and fun.
Threads of Fate looks incredible, even up to this day. I think that this is because of the direction of the art style. It's simple, yet, has a lot of detail in the right spots. Give it a shot on a modern emulator like duckstation and enable all those enhancements (widescreen (21:9 looks insane if you have one), fix geometrics, upscaling, etc) and you have a ps 1.5, almost ps2 game, it simply looks AMAZING.
Now, the next step for the emulator would be figuring out a way to put ambient oclussion, that would be amazing. The depth that AO creates would be amazing on a game like Threads of Fate.
Wow, Vanark looks really impressive for a PS1 game! I never heard of it before, but I’m looking up a copy to get now. Tenchu 2 is a game that was impressive for the PS1 for sure. Threads of Fate and Legend of Mana also look beautiful in action still to this day. Great video again man!
Its such a great game, some real Starfox vibes! Glad you enjoyed the video mate :)
Vanark is incredible. Arguably better than starfox in certain aspects imo
@@angrymobsters1599 Vanark is like a N64 game, and even a late N64 title...
Soul Reaver was the game that impressed me the most, besides GT2.
Did Soul reaver come out on PS1? Blood omen legacy of Cain was and was a fantastic game, I had a dreamcast by the time soul reaver came out so had it on that
Just looked it up , wow didn't realize it was on PS1. Very impressive
One game that I find impressive on PS1 is Spyro the Dragon. The reason for that is the size of the levels and how far you can see. There is no poppin. Instead they used lower detailed models in the distance. It was a new idea at the time and it is still something we use today in new games. Where other games tried to hide the limited draw distance with fog like in Silent Hill and others games didn't even try to hide it at all like the Driver games, Spyro actually managed to overcome a technical limitation with great results.
Agreed! Spyro is one of those PS1 games that I will look at and pass as a modern 3D game because it's that polished.
@@bhardnavares5903 Spyro and Crash Bandicoot are just as good now as they were back then. That's why the remaster trilogies really just redid the graphics and kept everything else as is. Not many games of that era can get away with just switching out the graphics and work. Resident Evil 2 would definitely not have worked if they just redid the graphics and kept the same exact gameplay.
Threads of Fate is an absolute gem.
I’ll second that, such a great game!
Was it available in Europe?
I tried to get into it recently but it just felt like 30 minutes of unskippable text dialogue then 20 minutes of gameplay in the beginning. Does it get better or should I expect that for the entire playthrough?
I’m glad someone talks about Tenchu 2. Everyone always brings up the first game. Second game was not only graphically better, it was a much bigger game and played better.
I heard somewhere this is basically early Dark Souls on psx.
@@Freshbrood Not really
I loved Tenchu 2, I've spent hours on it playing as a stealth shinobi to unlock lots of shinobi tools as a prize for not being detected, it was I think the best one in the tenchu franchise, never played Tomb raider on PS1 I started playing it from Tomb Raider Legend PS2 and immediately became a fan
Having played most of those back in the PS1 era; can easily agree that they where stunning!
Loved to see Chase the Express in this list, that's actually a hidden gen that many dont know about. Only game missing in my opnion is Vagrant Story, its a amazing detailed 3D game for the PS1.
I think you may have realised it now, but that game was featured in the first part.
Glad to see RayStorm get some love. It's a beautiful and awesome game with an amazing soundtrack. If you haven't played it yet, RayCrisis is also pretty great.
I agree - I never heard of that game until in my college years. So many great games the PS1 had! It’s incredible!
Its on Pc also.
@@adam1984pl RayCrisis is on PC?
@@GameBoyGuru RayStorm
Legend of Mana is one of my favorite games. The graphics, the story, the music. You can tell they poured their hearts into this game.
Thank you for mentioning Tomb Raider: The Last Revelation, TVGS! This was the second Tomb Raider game I played, but got stuck on the Tomb of Seth, with Tomb Raider 3 being the first Tomb Raider game I played.
The graphics in Tomb Raider 3 and 4 are very impressive
Thanks for watching 🙂
I recently added a bunch of PS1 games to my PS3's hard drive, and Threads of Fate was one of them. Didn't know much about it, just looked interesting but wow it's really a nice looker. Almost reminds me of an early PS2 game like Dark Cloud with it's looks. Nice list, and thanks for sharing. Lots of other cool titles I never knew about in this vid as well :)
It’s such a solid game! Glad you also found something new Joe 🙂
I'm weeding through your PS1 playlist finding some gems to load my PlayStation Classic up. So far, I've found a TON of really good and appropriate games for the mini console.
IDK why, but that Ray storm reminds me of Star Soldier: Vanishing Earth.
For me the games I remember being visually impressive for that time and even now are: Megaman 8, Castlevania: Symphony of the Night, Metal Slug, King of Fighters 99, Yu-Gi-Oh! Forbidden Memories, and SaGa Frontier 2
Shadow Tower is another PS1 game that gets overlooked sometimes. First played it on PlayStation Underground Vol. 2 Issue 4 on Disc 1. Pretty interesting game.
Had some great graphics for the time.
Have you heard of that game, TVGS?
You didn't even mention the most impressive aspect of *Quake II* on PS1; the 4 player split screen mode.
This channel rocks big time keep em coming dude!
That fist of the north star game has sick graphics. Tecmo Deception 3 does too
Yes Threads of Fate, such an underrated gem. And Legends of Mana is just beautiful.
I remember owning Chase Express but entitled "Nuclear Dawn" instead. RayStorm was my favourite when I was still renting PS1 but never had a chance of owning one after getting a PS1. Never beat that game as far as I can remember.
Thank you for finally including Legend of Mana!!!! I've been waiting for this wonderful game to make this list, as it is stunningly beautiful and mystically scored. What a great soundtrack!
Wrong
The tekken 2 intro music (at the start of this video) is enough to convince me this channel is solid and I'm now a subscriber
A little off topic here, but whenever I see threads of fate, it makes me so nostalgic even though I've played so many games before it . No other game make me feel like it. It just takes me back to the past.
Same here, i only played the first stages as a kid but It left a strong impression, it took me years to find this game again and the nostalgia hit so hard still
Someone needs to talk about Speed Punks. The graphics are absolutely incredible, and it's a decent kart racer too! Nobody ever mentions this game!
Mate, please, always have the names of the games presented in the description. It helps a lot.
Great content !!!
Xenogears and Omega Boost were 2 great looking games on the Playstation. Nice content man. Legend of Mana looks great, as well as some of the others on you listed. Thanks man!
5:10 Delta Force : I will always remember the music from the radio in a backyard
Threads of Fate/Dewprism (which also didn't see a release in poor Europe) was a game I only learned of because I caught a glimpse of gameplay from a 2 sec clip in a JonTron video, and the redheaded heroine immediately caught my interest BECAUSE of the impressive graphics and smooth character animation. And while I haven't beaten it yet, I played it for a bit and was indeed impressed with how it pushed the graphical capabilities of the system.
Super video! Awesome games🙏💎💎💎
Thank you!
If you haven't in your previous installments you should mention koudelka in your next list.
When I first played Koudelka I was amazed at the really good voice acting for the main protagonist and the CG cutscenes looked beautiful for ps1 graphics
you never mentioned the Map Editor on Tenchu 2(Birth Of The Stealth Assasins), which allows players to create their own games: editing map textures, placing items and even controlling enemy patrols. combine that with the excellent gameplay, and this is the greatest title on the console imo.
Thanks for uploading another video on PS1, TVGS! I enjoy these so much!
Thanks for watching mate!
@@thatvideogamesshow No problem - keep up the great work!
Around 8-9 minute, there is music from Enthusia Professional Racing ;) Good pick!
Another great video. Thanks for the content.
Thanks for watching 🙂
Cool vid
Megaman legends series had great graphics too!
Criminally underated channel 👏
Deserve a million sub👍🏻🔥🔥🔥
That Vanark was totally new to me. Looked amazing!!! Gotta play some day
M8 chase the express looks like a banger can't wait to pick it up can't believe I've never heard of it. Keep up the good work bud 👍
I didn’t expect to see Threads of Fate. It was really cool, but short enough that I beat both paths of it while renting it without a guide over maybe two weeks. You could get so overpowered by the end.
Love these series, specially the PS1 & Saturn Games. If you're looking for suggestions maybe a series of games that have music way better than the gameplay, or better than you know. SO many fantastic OSTs from the 90s.
Thanks Zoid! A series about soundtracks sounds like a solid idea 🙂
Maybe ones by console? Many gems of the Saturn and turbo-grafx-16.
Digimon world 3/ 2003 on PS1 has an amazing soundtrack. I normally sit in the language select screen for a few minutes listening to that cheerful jingle before actually starting the game.
Most Rare games have good music by default but I don’t think that would make a good video since it’s way too common knowledge
[2:30] I would have expected the sequel to Tenchu to be called Elevenchu.
Never heard about Chase the Express, good one.
Love your videos please keep up the good work.
Thank you! Plenty more to come 🙂
I would argue the MegaMan Legends games could've taken up a spot on this list too. Sure, it doesn't have the polygon count of some of these, but the art style holds up great today
Included them in a previous part of this series 🙂
Thank you for this truly
Really enjoy these videos. Looks like I'll be buying some more PS1 games 😎👍
Thanks Ted! Glad you found something new man 🙂
Love your coverage of PS1,PS2,PS3 & XBOX 360 impressive.
Keep up the great work.
Thanks man! More on the way 🙂
@@thatvideogamesshow I really enjoy your videos, and can’t wait for more to come.
Have you ever heard of the PS1 games, 40 Winks and Kingsley’s Adventure, TVGS?
love that Blur background music !
I am just glad the best intro is back lol
That Tekken 1 track in the beginning 👌
Threads of Fate is a beautiful action rpg with a wonderful soundtrack. Damn you Squaresoft where is my sequel...
Picked up both Chase The Express and Delta Force as they weren't expensive. Really liked Chase in particular and it does look good for a PS1 game.
Delta Force impressed me with how modern it feels unlike many other PS1 FPS games. Didn't care for the health system though.
If you're interested in another fixed camera PS1 exclusive, maybe check out, In Cold Blood. It's from the devs responsible for the Broken Sword point and click adventure games.
Thanks for the tip Genome, I’ll check it out 🙂
Damn I cant believe I missed that Chas the Express game on the PS1 back in my day. I would have loved that. Like Metal Gear and Siphon Filter and Winback.
Raystorm, Threads of fate, Legend of Mana and to a lesser extent Quake 2 all look nice even to this day. But the rest of the games mentioned haven't really aged well.
Sup men 🤙🏻 I love your videos!!
Greetings from venezuela....👍🏻 like always
Oh man, Vanark was one of my favorites. I used to replay a lot since I loved the fast action paced progress.
I used to play Raystorm A LOT back in an arcade machine they had in college. Awesome game.
Liar
@@westerling8436 How am I a liar?
I love how people cut throats in Tenchu 2.
With the reverse side of the blade.
I like how you used some trickstyle music on colin mcrae clip (i hope its trickstyle, the music is very familiar..)
Surprised Alundra isn’t here. The graphics still hold up today really, looks great and effects are awesome.
Raystorm is one of the greatest shoot'em ups I've ever played. Love the game, mechanics and graphics.
Its on PC also.
Hundred percent. My favorite of the ray series. I cringed when AVGN bashed on it on one of his videos.
@@angrymobsters1599 ugh, not surprised.
Great video, I didn't know there were so many PS1 games lol
Haha thanks Hellish, there’s a ton!
So happy with the selection in this video. Loved all the games in the past. Brings so many good memories. 🥹
10:16 this is such an upgrade over the first game, it's insane
I love your intro music. Is that from BOF3?
Tekken 2 🙂
your intro music is Nina Williams Opening in tekken 2, if i am not mistaken
Raystorm looks a bit like the Playstation version of Star Fox 64 almost! Definitely want to check that one out.
As always, only you know how to select the best games... and I congratulate you for it. Likewise, thank you very much for the beautiful melody, which reminded me a little of those times, greetings friend!
Thanks for watching Crystal! Glad you enjoyed the video 🙂
I remember renting most of these from my local video store when I was a kid… crazy lol
Love tenchu 2 the best part of the game was the map maker I had so much fun making them and swapping memory cards with my buddies to turn theirs
9:08 thats the first time i've seen moving foliage on the PS1 in my entire life.
Let's have a word for the soundtrack in Raystorm too, one of the best!
Threads of Fate?! 😱 Nobody I know remembers that one, this was my game!
The sound design in Tenchu 2 is SUPREB
Quake 2 on PS1 is incredible, especially if you play it with the Mouse.
Sad that it has missing levels though. They could have easily fixed that with probably a second cd but probably wanted to meet a deadline or just lost interest. At least it features the full cgi animations for opening and ending. And there was a bug for the chain gun to have infinite ammo i think .
Quake 2
Alien Resurrection probably is still in the top 3 best alien games ever made.
Delta Force
And the medal of honor games were awesome too!
Alien Resurrection is incredible, correct me if I'm wrong wasn't that the 1st game ever to utilize the Analog Sticks for a console FPS game (right stick movement / left stick camera)?
@@shinkazama3959 Not sure.I also heard such a thing before though.(it does uses the mouse too).By the way, a year or two ago, there was a leak of the beta of that game and shows the gameplay as it was meant in third person. You can see some gameplay of it here on youtube. Pretty cool.It was going to also come out for the saturn.
NO WAY! Definitely need to check that out, cheers for the Info!

No I know why when i was playing the game, on the monitors there were photos of 3d faces on the intercom talking with the player.3d characters from the movie were made.
There is also a video of additional cgi scenes that were removed from the game but cant find the link right now.It was basically a longer intro of the game with a few more angle shots .
Threads of Fate and Legend of Mana are both available on the PS3's PSN store.
delta force urban wrarfare was my go for game on ps1. It also thought me the great track 3dtrike -redemption because it was playing on a car. Gameplay was really detailed and it had a bit limited stealth in it as well. Despite the hard controls it was giving out a pc like fps experience for its time.. RIP navalogic.
On the other hand threads of fate having no actual voice recording might have helped it getting the graphics on an edge with low amount of space cds had
Chase the Express's actual name is Covert Ops Nuclear Dawn. Great game. based on Metal Gear Solid and the Under Siege movies
Vanark looks amazing shows how many polygons can be crammed into a game
i know it has a cartoon look but i was surprised that tombi did not show up on any of the lists. was quite a crisp looking game and i thought it was up there when compared to some of the ones on the list
Does Chase the Express really have pre-render backgrounds? Those look real-time 3D graphics.
Please check Urban Chaos - an open-world game way before GTA3, it was really mind blowing back in the day
Space Debris is a PAL Railshooter. There is also EOS Edge of Skyhigh and Gamera 2000 as Japan versions.
Chase the express ❤❤
So underrated game, one of my favourites from PS1
Such a great game!
N2O: Nitrous Oxide still amazes me with the visuals. The lighting effects may be the best I've seen on the system.
Threads of fate, Delta Force, Tenchu 2...played them for hours and hours on end
Vanark look fun as heck. Threads of Fate looks like a dang PS2 game, holy moly
TR The Last revelation was the last great TR by Core Design. I played through it maybe 3 times over the years after its release and of course Tenchu 2 was another good game. I think the PS1 had the most games ever released on the one console, it was crazy how many games there were. The last count i checked it was around 7000+. Btw i like the original Tekken 2 music you have in your intro, brings back memories.
Tenchu was the only reason i bought a PlayStation 1 and 2 wrath of heaven was amazing. Wish they bring them back with improve graphics
what was the music at the start of the video ? was it from a teken game ?
Yoko Taro was the planner of Chase the Express!
