I love your little place, it reminds me of MINE, except I'm on the Kenai peninsula Alaska and my kids are a few years older.. we have 3 high tunnels, off grid. I fully understand life getting in the way! We have 6 kids with us and between homeschooling, dance classes, our little farm and whatnot, it's hard to find the desire to post. Looks like hard work, glad you are keeping up with it. Have you looked at growing something like lentils and drying them as a supplement to 'taters in your backup food stores? That might be something you could acquire from farmer's markets cheaply at end of season. Cook 'em down, mill them and add some oil and salt and pepper and a little flour to make a "meaty" gravy for those spuds? A friend does that but also adds powdered dried carrots and some sort of yeast flakes.
