I'm nephop fan since day one and when balen announced he will run for mayor, I was like is this a joke ? I didn't care bout him until he came on this same podcast. Yes being a rapper def gave the exposure he needed at initial stage but it was his vision and agendas and how he is going to implement them that made me believe in him. Balen envisioned this 5 years ago or maybe more than that. That's why he became the mayor. If it was any other rapper even uniq poet I would might not have supported him even tho uniq is my fav rapper.

Yesto nai theyo bhani tah manas dai tapai aaile samma tah mayor bata retired bhaishakye ko huntheyo hola ni not just you every nephop artist haru sabai politics ma huntheyo hola . Maybe manas dai is sharing his thoughts about balen in a positive way but the way he is presenting balen is not fair . I think balen deserves more appreciation especially from Nephop team . To find out let's go to the roots of hiphop or simply rapping
Rapping is considered as the descendent of poetry.
The poetry which was raised through the streets of NY that gave the voiceless black minorities of then era the much needed voice in the form of rap.
Rap is considered as the pain and suffering turned into words and lyrics and flows and beats.
But sane can't be said about hip hop even though hip hop is the most popular form of rapping but it evolved with the introduction of new eras.
It's like advancement in the field of rapping.
And let's not talk about mumble rapping and i don't even want to.
So there is no way balen is not a hip hop type.
He can be considered a tad bit orthodox in that context but no matter how much rap has evolved be it into modern day hip hop or shit that is mumble rapping but poetry is the dna of rap.
So a good hip hop should have that dna of poetry to make it rap.
No matter how good the beat and flow is but without proper lyrics that is not rap.
Manas indirectly said that balen is better in lyrics and if a rapper is said he is poetic then that is a compliment.

So Balen is next to Yamma Buddha or even above as he represented NepHop and took it to the next level recognition wise. everybody knows n listen NepHop now cause of Balen.
His strategy was little different, used his knowledge and ability to grow NepHop audience.
So u need to have that Business aspect on any field including music to do a proper marketing and branding to make it famous. Which Balen is good at and did on both For Mayor and for Nep Hop so he is a genius.
His songs n lyrics r dope as well. He just doesn’t have a swag. Swag can be built but some of them want to remain simple n the way they r., like Balen ., #God bless him. Balen might not have won if he wasn't a rap artist, that's true. But it is undeniable that the reason why he'll be a great mayor for Kathmandu is because he's very well versed in Newari culture (Art, language & architecture), he's an enviornmentalist, advocates for waste management; He pushes for sustainable forms of transportation like electric trains, cycling & footpaths (walking). He's trusted by the people for his engineering background, his work ethic, his ideas, his stoic
image. It is undeniable that these are great qualities for a great leader; That being said, he likes to think of himself as a worker not a ruler or server. Thus, adding to his character or "brand" as he calls it.
