Yeah, it sucked to listen to and I hate when channels like this use a pure victim’s reaction (as in, not the killer) as a flashy grab for attention right when the video starts. I could care less how a murderer is treated, but showcasing the worst moment of the victims life is just uncool.
A lot of channels are falling into this trap of views over humanity and it sucks to see.

As someone who doesn't understand the desire to hurt others, especially murder I watch these to try to understand and possibly recognize the signs. I've found that it seems 99.9% have an obvious explanation, greed, jealousy, control, compulsion and even, horrifically, curiosity. This one and a couple others are inexplicable, in the sense that a mental disorder is the reason. Now I wonder if the parents, mostly mother, here blamed drugs instead of looking deeper. Sadly for whatever reason mental illness was either ignored or not considered but she knew something was wrong. This stigma has to change. Mental disorders are biological in most all cases and a person having a serious mental health issue is no different than if they had diabetes or cancer. There are fungi that can control the behaviors of insects and look at Alzheimer's disease, it totally affects behavior! Anyways I hope people learn from this case and others and I'm sure we'll see more of this sadly.

I guess it's satisfying to me that my experience as a Public Defender gave me the schizophrenia idea early on. Glad I stuck with it to hear the word at 14:55+. This is particularly awful for families because it develops after a child has progressed quite a way in life with promise, as here. The delusions are not always murderous, but are debilitating. There are medications, but schizophrenics are notorious for going off the meds when they think they are "better," and relapsing. What a horrible case!

Yes, the torch-and-pitchfork crew was out for Austin Harrouff, too. I suppose most can't comprehend the power of schizophrenia unless they experience it from someone up close. He's not evil, he's sick..... but he shouldn't be allowed to live free among the citizens. He belongs - just like Harrouff does - in a facility that can manage his illness. The rage from the mother's sister is misplaced. Acute mental illness is a life sentence for those that suffer from it, and for those that love them.

I mean, I know saying "mental illness" feels like an attempt to shift blame or something but.... sometimes people really do have schizophrenic episodes or flare-ups which can be very protracted. And the sorts of delusion that come with it can absolutely make a person dangerous. A lot of his behaviour, quite apart from "vicious and unhidden murder of mother" seems to indicate something awry.
That doesn't mean you can't blame someone for what they did even if they truly were hearing voices, or whispers or whatever. Schizophrenia/similar severe mental illness being a contributing factor to murder doesn't mean a person can't be blamed for the crime.
