If any good comes from this it will be that the World now knows what a Badass James Cameron is.

Cameron is rumored to be a perfectionist when it come to deep sea exploration. His interviews gives insight how well versed he is - not just in deep sea diving but also engineering. Its actually amazing to watch

Bit misleading to say they had similar shapes. The external shapes were indeed both long and streamlined, but much of that enclosed volume was in equilibrium with the water pressure.
The key safety part, the pressure vessel, was spherical in Challenger and cylindrical with hemispherical ends in Titan. That will have had a big impact on the forces acting on them.

The shape was the least of the problems..he failed to follow any of the certification guidelines..the main failure would be crush hull testing. You typically add 20% to the dive limit..the sub should of been tested to depths of 16,000 feet to insure 12,500 was safe to dive.
Blair Thornton said the physical force, not psi would be around 10,000 tons on the hull equally..he's a professor and built dozens of robot deep subs..

Oceangate sub is homemade from home depot and best buy parts. James cameron sub is made by top engineers and sub designers in the world.

That thing was a ticking time bomb. And what's more, Rush was on the lookout to take as many people down as he could. Any rich or famous person could have bought that ticket to oblivion. This story is disturbing on so many levels.

That's really not fair to say, anger is fueling you...
Yes, the sub was doomed from the start, Stockton was a dangerous and foolish engineer ignoring calls to change the design and he was destined to die in the sub..the avoidable part was acting as a business with equipment that was experimental and uncertified allowing passengers to die with him ..
Prior to knowing the sub imploded most of you showed hatred to the passengers demanding they pay for the rescue because they had money, once it was confirmed, you switched and went after the company...smh

and this channels should stop spreading lies like the military uses this game controller too, they look similar but they undergo serious testing, depending for what purpose they use it, like interference security, temperature and more

@@thedbcooperforum I'm not angry. I never mentioned the company in my comment. Where am I showing hatred to the passengers? Are you sure you placed your reply under the right comment? I'm scratching my head trying to understand your thinking. If you are going to reply, try to make your reply relevant to the comment you are replying to. It bears no relevance to what I wrote whatsoever. Take care.

and with that, i think we're done building carbon fibre subs...let's keep our sweet carbon to make better cars and other shit that won't end up at the bottom of the ocean!

Cameron spent 10 million dollars on his sub, I wanna know what Rush spent on Titian. Just curious! He bought out dated carbon fiber for a low price so I’d like to know how much total was spent

Anyone in composites with 15 minutes to read up on its performance under water would have never let this go past the idea phase. This con-man somehow got people to find his shitty, awful, 100% going to fail idea.
He set the submersible world back decades probably. But at-least this will set precedent for why certification isn’t “stifling progress” like this arrogant dude said.
Cameron’s vehicle was well thought out and no expense spared. His point was simple… there’s no point to this if we die. May as well burn the money.
    Good points.

Deep sea challenger is an engineering masterpiece. They even invented the foam material just for the project.
Titan is a piece of garbage not up for the task.

Maybe not all employees but some of the more senior staff in Oceangate must bear some responsibilities in this disaster, like their director of engineering who was deeply involved in the design, construction and testing of the submersible alongside the now deceased Stockton Rush.

The navy doesn’t use Bluetooth video games controller for driving submarines, but for other purposes like weaponry n things like that. Despite using a Bluetooth controller instead o a tethered cable one for that depths is not a very good idea. Don’t b demagogues…

Is it possible that the location where the champagne bottle was struck to christen the vessel be the start of a fissure and or crack in the carbon fiber?

    • @restart426
      @restart426 Рік тому

Never considered that as I just saw it for the first time in this video, but definitely add it to the long list of variables: the use of expired carbon fiber and only being wound in one direction, the adhesive used to bond the carbon to the titanium caps, the underrated acrylic window, the bolts securing the hatch, etc., a year from now after the investigation, I’d chuckle if they were ALL contributing factors.
