I love the guests, but having you 3 banter is friggin' GREAT.
Christopher Peach, Games Workshop No More can throw a handful of paintbrushes at a dartboard from 12 feet away and still do a better paint-job than his opponent. If Christopher Peach, Games Workshop No More, rolls a 6 to hit he obtains a dry-brushing bonus, allowing Christopher Peach, Games Workshop No More to paint an additional 12 miniatures per hour.
Haha! I’m loving the Shatterpoint style naming here 😘👌
I just had visions of him throwing paintbrushes into the ceiling of his office like Mulder and his pencils.
Can we have a mailbag session with Geoff where he reads a letter every week please!!?
Super wholesome!
Great show lads 💙
Currently trying to open a PO Box so it's on the cards!
Yeah I mean if you don’t have anything that week just get him one of the spam menus or something, still be just as wholesome 😅😂
@@thepaintingphase on the cards!! I see what you did there 😂👍
@@thepaintingphasewhen you have a PO Box open I will have a custom wooden dice tray made and sent to you guys .
You guys got the pegs! 😁 I don’t think they were clear when you look at them but that bag has about 30 or so 28mm pegs in it for adding to whatever unit you wish. It may just need some thin wash to show the details :)
That letter in the beginning mirrors a lot of sentiments in your fans, guys. Listening to your podcast is just like hanging out with a group of friends! Keep up the awesome work!
I met Peachy today with my brother at Warhammer world, what an utterly lovely gent!!!
The main issue with Primaris was never updating existing models, or scale creep. It was replacing in-universe units and characters, with explicitly mechanically different( and often superior) versions of themselves. There would have been model critiques of MkX tactical marines and assault squads, but nowhere near the outcry.
You can run 1st ed metal guardsmen in your army today, because they haven't released a new upgraded human variant with turbolasrifles that needs new models to differentiate them on the tabletop.
22:55 '... the Michael Collins of The Painting Phase'
Did Peachy honestly say that another table top game company makes a gaming set that is "too expensive"? Don't let people hear that GW isn't the only one that is expensive, there will be riots!
Looking forward to seeing you at the Winters event in Stockport, Geoff. Keep an eye out for my Ratlings!
If I see em, them there Ratlings ain’t doing their job. In all seriousness i’m looking forward to meeting you.
2mins 30secs in, and Pat is planning on skinning his co-hosts, it's going to be a good one
I love that you release these on a Monday… having a fun show to watch makes Mondays so much more bearable and gives me something to look fwd to! 😄👍
Classic chat with just the boys! Thanks for the good listen
on the legends stuff, youngest wanted a pair of whirlwinds for his Blood Angels, the filthy cheesemonger, and was happy to buy them, but having seen the firstborn stuff going legends.. he didn't, there is no Numarine version, wondered on the 30k version, in the end a pair of 3d printed high detail ones joined his army
two lost sales there, if their was a Numarine version he would probably have bought them
and he is very salty about some of his Death Company stuff especially going to "sucks to be you"
I'm on the same page as Geoff when it comes to 10th. Much of the talk, especially the negative talk, revolves around competitive tournaments. As a recent episode put it, this is "down the hobby trumpet". Casual play and efforts to make things smoother for casual players hardly get attention.
Thanks Captain - Geoff
My current battle ready red recipe (painting my leviathan marines as Crimson Fists); TT Combat Capo Red over a black prime, add small amount of AK Deep Red for mid tone, highlight with Deep Red. Larger areas (captain's cloak) get a wash with Carroburg Crimson, then an airbrushed Vallejo gloss varnish ties it all together.
Make the tactical peg a T shirt fellas!
Or a “Peachy pegged me” / “I went to chillcon and all I got was pegged”
Farmer Maggot in the LoTR range has x3 dogs (Grip, Fang and Wolf) to add to your list!!
That airbrush has been all over laytely, punches well over its weight, work as good as a 150£ brush and if i did not own several 200£ brushes i would get one, and i still might do. Youre going to love that brush
Love that you're reading those night lord books, they are amazing.
Really enjoyed all the excellent guests recently but yeah it is nice and tasty to get an episode of you guys chatting.
People surely can’t be surprised about firstborn being phased out this is a line from the Dark Imperium book from June 2017. “Guilliman looked to the Primaris Space Marines as his first solution. He made no attempt to hide the fact that the days of the older Space Marines were numbered.”
Another latecomer for the Liang Dempsy raid! Painting phase is one of my top watches now. Never miss an episode!
As much as the guests you have are always great, its always equally nice to hear you guys chatting away yourselves :-)
Every time one of this videos with just the three of you pops up, it's like seeing your mates for a beer after a long time. Cheers and thanks as always!
Love the guests you have but just three Muskaidiots are great.
Well done Patrick for rescuing a semi-corrupted video and also well done you three for making me shatter-point curious! Love this podcast, really honestly can't do without it at this point!
Great chat gents. Some lovely updates from each of you and agreed on Element Games being an absolute nervana. I was there for a painting lesson and so impressed not only by the shop which has a massive range of everything hobby but the gaming area was awesome. You even had QR codes on the tables and could get takeaways delivered to your exact gaming table. There was even a neighbourhood ginger tom who wanders in for fuss and treats.
Also thanks for sharing a positive tournament experience. I think that needs to be normalised instead of sharing just negative experiences as it encourages more people to give it a try.
Thanks to Pat for sharing the Space Ducks charity project as I'm also contributing a little something.
Best part of a Tuesday down here in Australia! Always great to see you all do a catch up episode of what you’ve been doing and what been happening in your hobby time. Cheers
Haha! Geoff leaning forward and Peachy being a little further away from the table highlights a size difference I didn't think really existed prior to this video
"As a former Detective, I know a thing about Life Senances and Angie, Marco, *you just got slapped with the best life sentence there is*, Marriage. To Angie and Marco, make us proud, have a son. Salute!"
- Jake Peralta 'Brooklyn Nine-Nine'
70k subs well deserved!!
Just letting you know that this and two other recent episodes aren’t on Spotify yet… I want to listen at work! Cheers, namaste
I’m sure hear this loads but…this is such an awesome show! It’s like sitting with my mates talking hobby! Love you guys 😊
The Element store in Stockport is great! I jumped on a train and visited after Warhammerfest in Manchester left me on a bit of a downer, and it was a much better experience.
@20:00 on the subject of seeing you guys "in the wild", I happened to see Geoff the other day. Or, more accurately I heard him first, before turning around to see the man himself. In my head I thought I could say something witty along the lines of "sidetracked" or "PEG ME!!" (before we recreated the Arnie/ Carl Weathers handshake from Predator) but I didn't want to bother him and interrupt the group he was chatting with..... plus also, social anxiety 🙃
Always, always interrupt me. You guys are the reason this show continues to exist, I love to say hello and I’m a professional talker, I’ll do all the heavy lifting in the conversation and if you hold your hand up and quote Predator, we’ll be friends for life.
Brilliant as always, the high light of my week, cheers guys
Re 10th edition, I found combat patrol fun :) experimenting with 1k points this week but will probably dive into another few CP boxes too to try armies.
I know there were good reasons for having to make up some lore to phase in the newer Marine models, but (maybe as a non collector of them) I would much have preferred if they said "Space Marines are far smaller t6han they should be... we've now got the tech to do them at a proper size and here's the remodel"
Oooh, I was painting my Spaceduck while watching this!
The podcast so good it makes painting the trim on a sea of Thousand Sons enjoyable, thanks guys!
Came from Mr Dempsey. Great show. With regards to the first born legends it's not quite like the new car analogy unless you think of it like you buy a new car earlier this year ( I bought some brand new models for my dark angels ravenwing) and then they stopped support for it within the year. I certainly don't think ranges getting updated or having models retired is bad as a whole- as a company they should support rules (tournament legal not legends) for 3 years after the last sale or state support will stop well in advance eg 3 years not months.
You quite right, I think my analogies up on the spot, they don’t always land.
@44:49 Doubles is definitely my favourite way to play 40k, shame its not more mainstream.
You could have Maul and Rex in the same squad because you select each squad by era, they are both clone wars era. Each squad only has to share the same era and you can even have a clone wars squad and a rebellion squad in the same strike team.
Oh interesting, this skins of info is perfect for me, I love doing different mash ups, thanks - Peachy
Looking forward to seeing the spray gun actually finish something! (hopefully)
If you're ever over in Northern Ireland, the OTT store/gaming suite is great for setting up some tables and having some fun :) But, you are right, the Element Games hall is pretty mega!
Hi Ben xx
@@buckyohare9993 Hey!
Have to admit, I used the Bangor joke as best man at my brothers wedding. But it was 10 years ago, so I'll say I was ahead of the popularity it might now have.
Official petition to have this episode renamed to "Patrick and 2 Mops with Skin."
Liam Dempsey suggested you so thought i would check you guys out. Not disappointed, great show.
The Primaris Marines are not new Marine sculpts. They are a new unit, in order to sell more models. No one complained about Dark Eldar Warriors update, because it is the same unit.
Classic chat ❤
Electric nail file, dremel bit. They are quite fast, bit not much torque ideal for plastic.
I'm pretty sure the contents of the 2e 40k starter box in model terms is still legal in game if very dated now.
When you get around to the 'Painting Citadel Dogs' video, don't forget the warhound titan!
Have just finished reading Titanicus by Dan Abnet and I second this.
Geoff, I feel your pain. I am making a chaos guard army, but thought that the regular guardsmen are not going to be slathering chaos worshippers. They are just following orders, so they are normal guardsmen, but have the aquila filed off of their gear. So for every guardsmen, there is one on the helmet, one on the lasgun, and one on their chest. But I specifically can do a mediocre job, as they are supposed to look like they have just attempted to file it off (so the flak armor is black, but has a silver bit where the aquila was) and some have parts still there.
Some good Accidental Partridge with the petrol station anecdote 😅
Accidental Partridge is always the best.
so a minute in and were already flaying our opponents for skin pits 😂😂😂
my partner NATALIE 😂 was really pleased to hear you say mardy as its not in my vocabulary being from norwich shes from leicester
Late to the @Liam Dempsey RAID but still love The Painting Phase and all of the videos that you guys put out with great painting tips or awesome guests! Keep up the great work guys, love you!
That’s so very much - Geoff
There is also a Bangor, Maine. Likely because all of our names on the east coast are borrowed from y'all.
I have no idea if it's been mentioned, but the Freeguild Marshal with the beard and spikey hair looks uncannily like Geoff
I’ve just looked and you’re absolutely right and what a handsome fella he is too - Geoff
15:48 actually that function is available on a lot of more inexpensive airbrushes from different manufacturers.
Got any links, I'd be interested to see them
@@thepaintingphase apologies, my response didn’t posted.
I enjoy every fireside waffle chat you guys put up so very much and can't wait for the next one. Such a great time with you!
A great chat as always. My wife and I got married at Farnham castle! Such a nice place, weird to hear to hear it mentioned
Lovely venue, just glad I wasn’t footing the bill….
Nightlords! Wahoo
Fully agree with Geoff that 10th is quicker and more fun. But there are a lot of weird "jankyness" interactions and things that arent clear (This is the first ruleset that has needed an 18 page clarification document afterall...). They need to desperately address the imbalance in factions as well. Even in a casual setting there are rather large gaps in between the available factions. 10th has a very very solid foundation, but some glaring issues that they need to address to make 10th as good as it should be!
Just writing to say thanks for everything you do and for today's episode
Helping me stay sane whilst I finish my Masters Thesis !😂
Good luck, the end will come eventually!
And then you can do a PhD 😂
@@Dagenham_Swish thats the plan !😂
@@ziggystardust1798 Ha brilliant. What are you writing about (if you can stomach explaining to a complete stranger online?) 😂
@@Dagenham_Swish no problem at all.
I'm a Classicist and Ancient historian
And I'm writing about the battle of pharsalus in the texts of Julius Caesar and a poet called Lucan.
I'm interested in how their battle narratives impart their meaning and coerce their reader into reading in line with their version of events.
So yeh it's not much but it's something 😂
@@ziggystardust1798 oh nice. I'm not scholarly myself, but my wife is an iron age archaeologist, so I gain a little historical osmosis over time! 😂
So why why texts by Julius Caesar and Lucan? Are they of a particular interest to you? Are they the eminent (or maybe only, i dont know) texts on the particular subject, and therefore the most suitable for this particular subject?
Always puts a smile on my face. Well done lads.
HELLO FROM BANGOR NI (Yes for real)
Greetings from the great Hall
On the issue of leaks from GW, they've always had this issue and I've always had the opinion that they're deliberate leaks from inside the company.
I found a 15mm version of Sharpe on Ebay the other day.
Hey Jeff, I like the alien t shirts you've worn on the show.
Thanks so much.
Excellent stuff as always guys.
Great episode! I would love an episode with Liam Dempsey to talk about casual narrative/ Garagehammer. Keep up the great work lads!
I play in wedding bands, it gets very samey, especially when we are waiting to set up and self indulgent speeches drone on. I know photographers also want to get done and get out as soon as we do!
Please tell me that the contesting an objective rule in Shatter point is called "I have the high ground"
Pat and I have the same birthday🎉
Liam Dempsey sent us love your content greetings from the Great Hall
Thanks for coming 🥰🥰🥰🥰
Patrick over here reading the greatest trilogy in 40K
Very surreal to hear Bangor (NI) mentioned as I'm sitting at my in-laws place down there
Can confirm that I was a part of the hunch with hats me and my doubles wore the frog hats
The first white dwarf I bought was when they introduced the attack bike (and elder viper) shows just how old I am!
Here from Liam Dempsey will be checking you guys out!
Cheers, it’s much appreciated ❤
Great video guys, looking forward to more of this
That airbrush looks a rebranded aliexpress airbrush. They're decent, but they're sold under gibberish brand names all over the world
Here from Liam Dempsey. Keep up the good work.
Cheers 👍 that’s very kind
regarding the legends situation and the chat at 58:50, i have a full Red Scorpions chapter I've been collecting and cultivating since their conception. I'll still be playing them using the cards, now legends, with my mutual gaming friends of Peachy. I theme each company and arrange them into different companies of Primaris and Firstborn. TL:DR my chapter will live and using the models irrespective of Legends.
The night lords trilogy is incredible. Highly recommend to anyone who wants a good audiobook series to listen to.

I love Talos. I felt the 3rd book fell off a bit. It wasn't as good as the first too and it kind of lost me half way.
I picked up Shatterpoint using an about to expire gift card, and really glad I did, really enjoyed it, and even followed your painting guide to get the models done - but 100% agreed with you, and with all the tournament players you spoke to, the rulebook is absolutely awfully written. It's really poorly laid out, and cases like the repeated repetition of "Ahsoka Tano, Jedi No More" is really frustrating.
I'm a Magic the Gathering fan as well, and it feels like they're trying to embed the same rule philosophy in making sure everything is precise, but MTG does occasionally use "this creature" or " this card" rather than write out the card causing the effect, and that should be enough.
It does all mostly make sense once you get your head around what they've written, and it's also really fun, but the initial read doesn't make it easy...
There's already at least 1 revision to the digitial rulebook on their website, so that is good, but it still suffers a lot from poor formatting.
The Vader vs Kenobi box is pricey for game pieces - but it's a gorgeous diorama piece that does sort of live up to the cost, for me anyway.
That said, i am in Australia, so we are talking dollarydoos and over here the game is on par with GW pricing. a hero model for Warhammer is going to cost half the price of the Vader/Kenobi box, and the other squad boxes are similarly priced, per model, so maybe the imbalance isn't so apparent.
Anyway, 1 vote for more Shatterpoint content. :)
I used to be a wedding Manager and one of the ones I heard all the time was " I was talking to the groom and for the honeymoon he said he was going to Bangor" 😂😢
Great show guys! 👏
My favourite best man joke that I've heard was made by my cousin at his brother's wedding. "I hope you have a lovely honeymoon. I think they're going to Wales...he told me that he was going to Bangor for two weeks!"
Haha, I type this and then, 30 seconds later, it's mentioned in the video...I totally thought my cousin had made an original joke!
I would watch you three play zombicide here.
perfect timing
On the red cloaks, Duncan just posted a video!
The combat tree mechanic in Shatterpoint seems *so cool*
for other GW trinkets - you should also try get some of the Squig dice.
I regret not buying some when they were released - as useless as they might be...
As soon as I heard you'd recieved an actual letter the only reference I could hear was ITS YOUR LETTERRRS
God I still miss TFI Friday!
I think I've heard of events running odd points numbers like 1100 specifically as a meta-buster; you can just take a meta 1000 point list and bolt on another 100, but you might actually find there are smarter ways to spend your points and you wind up bringing different stuff.,
Take some pointers from the middle earth scene, points are all over the place and special rules abound!
Really enjoyed this episode! :) thank you for keeping me entertained while painting :D my Dunland Warriors look better than they did at the start of the episode :)
Rules - How do you think 'Lethal Hits' interact with Thunder Hammers (devastating wounds)?
Index - with 3 models being 100 points and 6 being 200 points.. but I have the choice of taking 3 - 6 models and I take 5, is that still 100 points? Only becoming 200 points if I take 6.
Zombicide is fantastic!!!
