That seems to be the vibe the show's going for. These are normal people living in a slightly insane world. The world may be crazy with strange critters, bliblies and an enchanted forest that's just THERE, but despite the inherent craziness of their world, they're still just normal people living normal lives. It's the opposite of what most adult cartoons seem to go for, where the characters are living in a (Mostly) normal world, but the characters are varying levels of insane and just kinda warp normalcy around them, with most large-scale weirdness being directly related or caused by the character. If you were to go to some random town in the middle of nowhere in the world of the simpsons or family guy, it probably wouldn't be super far removed from what real life is, albeit maybe with people acting in a more exaggerated fashion. If you were to go to a random town in the middle of nowhere in Smiling friends, the town would look really weird, but it'd also be more familiar since people act sane.

What makes this better than 90% of adult animated shows is that the humor doesn’t rely on being vulgar and swearing. It actually feels like it’s written by adults and not a bunch of middle school boys in a locker room.

The whole alley bit where the narrator walks away with no pants on reminds me of when my high school band director made a video encouraging us as Covid just started in March 2020. He ended the video by pretending to think he ended it, only to stand up and he’s wearing fuzzy pajama pants with a super obnoxious pattern on them.
