According to Taketomi(Junction Produce Founder & VIP legend), “true” VIP is only 10 cars: Nissan President, Cima, Gloria, Cedric and Fuga; Toyota Celsior, Century, Aristo, Crown and Majesta. So those platforms, and their US equivalents(LS400 for Celsior, Lexus GS for Aristo, etc) are really the epitome of VIP. I liked how you mentioned that there has to be a separation between “VIP” and VIP styled or VIP inspired... because it is true 100%. It is a culture that had very specific platforms and unwritten rules that make sure to keep the identity and differentiate the style from others. That being said, there is definitely room for so much creativity as well as other platforms to build on... you can be VIP without being “true” vip and still be a part of the culture, as long as you do your research. You will find super underrated platforms such as Acura RLs or Mitsubishi Diamantes... but i don’t wanna give up too much game ; ). But yeah, VIP is dope, and if you are looking for a VIP car, Driver Motorsports is one of the best places to get one. Although I did get my Y32 Cima from someone else, if I ever want another platform, I will most likely go through Driver.
The fact that the common used cars for VIP are still somewhat modern and have nice creature comforts make them even more wicked for a daily driver. I think doing a few bolt ons on the engines would be pretty nice too just to make a few more horseys. Its also still somewhat niche so it hasnt been taken over by the teenage ricer scene yet and thats something I can appreciate. I really want to save up for an imported Japanese 4 door to make a nice VIP car.
VIP is literally just luxury. Toyota Century type stuff in a vehicle that didn’t come with it. You’re making a car into a car for a ‘very important person’ so you make it very luxurious for its passengers lol
A big fan of you guysz at DMS, hats off to Chris for building a first class team! As a proud owner of a Y32 Gloria GT, and a USAF Vet having been stationed in Tokyo all through the 1980s, I'll add a comment about the Yakuza. The car culture of the Yakuza started in the late 1950's during the US occupation post WWII and on up the 1980s. They mostly drove Cadillacs, Lincolns and Thunderbirds, the bigger the car the better. The shift to German cars , 1990's. The low-level "worker beezes" we the ones to start tricking out and mod'in Japanese cars thereafter you have all correct as far as I see. Well done, good video.
2:41 It is against the Yakuza's code to sell drugs as it dishonourable dirty money that doesn't positively affect the people of the communities they live in. If you are caught dealing or trafficking drugs through their territory you will be dealt with harshly.
My 3GS is simple and clean: slight drop, jdm lip kit, Work wheels, tint, and Lexus Japan accessories. Nothing wild, just under stated mods that looks cool without screaming “look at me!” 😆
With due respect to the VIP to VIP inspired distinction, it does appear that the Chrysler 300 is very much suited to be VIP inspired subject. It does appear that there are more 300s for sale in the JDM wholesale and auction sites than you would expect to find, as it did find a niche in Japan. Personally I love the late 90s Cedric/Gloria appearance more as I find the 300 to be almost too boxy, bordering on cartoonish.
I truly love my 206 Crown Majesta. 350+ horsies of V8 with reclining heated and cooled back seats and a little fridge in the back. I’ll have this car until it explodes.
@@HeavySig haha fun fact. It exploded. More stuttered and died. Dropped a valve just after I had the second cats removed and was testing out the Varex system. 3800 bucks for a new engine that gets dropped in next week. Did score a fully digital dash that was paired to the engine so I’ll take it as a win….just not to the hip pocket.

I've got a 1999 Acura 3.5RL that i'm currently turning into the "traditional" VIP look, with a flush fitment. I was just wondering if my build would be considered true VIP, or inspired VIP?
PostVIP, play some Ghostemane X post Malone over some PHONK tracks X Trap @ the track and you will be a TikTok sensation. Warning you will time travel ⚠️
I've owned a few VIP cars celsior to be one of them . Now living in UK cost of used cars is sky high now. I currently own a mx5 that's super fun. But will be dog shit for winter. So I'm currently saving up for a big body but after alot of hunting I come to realise there is not alot I can afford. If I'm lucky I could pick a gs300 at a decent price but those will sell quick. My question is to the people what is there VIP on the is200 to be a VIP car? Reason I'm looking at these is the price you can pick them up pretty cheap and getting a auto also helps for better price . But do people think it's big body enough to pull off as a VIP car?
😞 and all I wanted was an es300 since they first came out . Just got a 98 last month clean in and out low miles made in Japan now this ,only ls400 and up are cool.😣
you are wrong in your first sentence. Original VIP Cars are made from Yakuza cars yeah thats right but they drived mostly German Cars not JDM. especially the Mercedes S class was the most used yakuza car for decades. just yakuza on a budget used JDMs... So saying VIP Cars have to be JDM is just wrong...
*I don't like bringing up ethnicity but black people been doing "Vip" in cars at least since the late 60's- early 70's but they are called "Ghetto" "Pimp rides" etc*
