Thanks Gary, I am pleased to hear that you enjoyed my video. I also did a tying video featuring a Balanced Punk Perch. My variation of a popular California pattern designed to imitate Sacramento perch fry. Here is the link, ua-cam.com/video/qfJsuCWDuqU/v-deo.html. Cheers, Phil
Hi Phil love your Videos ...ive learned alot from you ...👊 I live in tahoe eastern Sierras Area . I was curious as to your knowledge how long ago did somebody come up with the balanced streamer and I don't mean balanced leech I hope to hear back from you tight lines love your videos
Hi Julian, Thanks for the kind words regarding my videos. i am pleased to hear that you are enjoying them. The balanced fly concept came from Jerry McBride who is based in Spokane. He introduced me to balanced flies over 10 years ago. They have become a standard, trusted, pattern for me ever since then. Cheers, Phil
No reason why it shouldn't. I would tie it in colors to match the colors of your local baitfish. White is always a good starting point. Other colors worth considering would be chartreuse over white, blue over white, grey over white and pink over white. Cheers, Phil
This looks like a great balanced minnow! May I ask what kind are your scissors? They sure look very pointy and that's what I need, it's hard to find good pointy scissors! Haha! Thanks for sharing your video Phil. :)
Hi Dave, I haven't noticed any significant difference. As with all balanced flies, the balance doesn't have to be perfectly horizontal. When suspended under an indicator the surface chop provides great action to your fly. If you are casting and retrieving without an indicator then the balance aspect doesn't come into play as the fly behaves like a small jig. I hope this helps. Cheers, Phil
Looks like a great Sacramento perch imitation. Thanks for the schlepped idea.

Looks great! Would this pattern work in salt water? If so what colors.
Ps. Subscribed!

Hi Phil - beautiful jig !! Got a question - could you recommend a substitute for the schlappen ? :-)
Hi Brian, thanks for compliments on my Balanced Minnow. You could use any soft feather you would like such as marabou, or hen saddle.
Cheers, Phil
Phil have you had the chance to fish it on rivers. I am thinking a good white bass or smallmouth fly
Do you find the fish mask changes the balance point when added over the bead?
