Thanks for this upload. I’m 60 and boxed as an amateur during this time period. Burner was always a hero to me and competed in probably the greatest ever era of heavyweight boxing. Never let us down. I watched him live against Cooper and always thought Gibbs called it right
You're absolutely correct. Fearless, light-footed and an extraordinary chin. I've read several places that the death of Ulrich Regis, especially so early in Bugners career, sapped him of a certain kind of drive.
Great behind the scenes footage! Sad to hear that Bugner now lives in a resting home, and is suffering from dementia. He was a very good boxer, and whether you liked him or not a big personality aswell.
This is a great post. Joe Bugner did have a great career and always gave his best. I can’t believe how relaxed he is on the day of the fight, even driving himself to the weigh in.
So underacted by the British , but so highly regarded by American Boxers, trainers and pundits . Joe was a brilliant defensive boxer with a chin of Iron , and if you were a top 10 contender you had better be on your game to beat him , unlucky against Ernie shavers , and lost by one round to Lyle and came close to Frazier ,
Joe Bugner’s Manager Andy Smith is the father of Robert Smith the General Secretary of the BBBofC. This is such a brilliant fly on the wall documentary before they even did these things.
Ali-Bugner fight #2 in Malaysia took place at mid day under a canopy in a 120 plus degrees. It took place at this time for the American TV audience and was at the advantage of Ali who was used to training in the heat of Miami. Bugner, however, was not used to this type of heat and just couldn't get going. If it had taken place in the cool of night, I think Joe would have put up a much better showing although the result would have probably been the same! After all we are talking Ali here!
Fascinating seeing London back in the 70s. A different world. Bugner looked great and seemed well liked by the public. I think it was the British press rather than the public whom he sometimes had a problem with. Bugner was a naturally big man whereas I'm convinced that many modern boxers are unnaturally big due to performance enhancing drugs.
great post. Bugner was/is 6ft 4. He looks like a giant compared to the `civilians`. Interesting to see how little wrapping on the hands compared to nowadays.
Great vid! Bugner was a underated fighter who had loads of talent, however his actions inside the ring was questionable. His lack of desire for instance against Ali in the second fight was buzzare. Despite all that he had loads of courage, just didn't want it bad enough. Just my opinion. God bless joe. Thanks
happyuk06 15 plus stones are not light heavies bugner fought at 16 stones as did Ali later on in his career and foreman at 17 stones ,Mike Tyson was 15 and knocking at 18 stone Giants
The light heavy Limit was 12st.7. lbs then and it is still 12 st. 7lbs now. Bugner was 6ft 4ins tall and 15 stone 11lbs is perfect at that height. Physically Bugner is the ideal heavyweight build.

Poor fellow now has very severe dementia and his son says he remembers nothing of his boxing career.
Joe driving his white rolls to the weigh in & checking out dolly birds in the park...how times have changed
Wow another gem of a documentary! Nice one.
Underated...Bugner was a great heavyweight.

Agree for the purest but for the average Joe he was dull to watch. It's amazing the number of fights he had also
Bugner had no power...just durable..
Bugner seems like a really nice bloke.

Great film. You can feel the tension building up during the day. Real stuff!

Excellent upload! Thanks, a great watch and a first for me. The TV companies must have tons of these nuggets and should duly release them to us 🙏
I am pleased Joe won a version of the world title before he retired ,he was very talented.
Very good documentary of what goes on the day of a fight. Behind the scenes of the boxers and promoters.
THANKS FOR THE GREAT FILMS..../ VIDEOS...BOXING FAN IN SOUTH CAROLINA USA
Wow......thankyou for upload...made lockdown less stress.... bugner did us proud against the real deal......

Loved it , great post , great fight , bugner was excellent....
Thought it a draw myself...
the man giving Bugner the rub down is Andy Smith, he also looked after Dave boy Green
fantastic ! awesome !

That is a ridiculous advance as a brit it takes me 10 days to get used to going on holiday and I'm just sitting on the beach doing nothing lol

Fury, lewis, bugner are the top 3 British heavyweights ever
lol, he is speaking perfect Hungarian at 31:04
Manager Andy Smith also had Dave Boy Green in his stable
The Guy in the black suit walking the streets with Joe is my Father in law Dave Martin
And my Grandad!

Yeah, he has an impressive record...
Wish Joe showed more aggression, like when destroyed Richard Dunn.
Amazing,,, the size between, joe Frazier and joe bugner,, joe bugner was much taller and bigger than
Joe Frazier,,?
I'd say Joe bugner was one of the best who fought out of britain defo
Who was the Don King look alike promoter complete with cigar shown in this does anyone know?
Yank Durham, Frazier's manager/Trainer, he died soon after, sadly, Eddie Futch took over
Joe won.
They're letting him drive himself the day of the fight ?
Dont think they can stop you its called free will
Light heavyweights
Iron mike Tyson was only 15 stones,
Lack of diversity back then in Britain they soon changed that didn't they just.
Bugner 15 stone 11 Frazier 14 stone 12 - light heavies by today's standards...
happyuk06 not bugner though and fraizer sometimes weighed 16 stones
happyuk06 15 plus stones are not light heavies bugner fought at 16 stones as did Ali later on in his career and foreman at 17 stones ,Mike Tyson was 15 and knocking at 18 stone Giants
You don't know your boxing

@@kevinmurphy2562 As is Olexander Usyk!!! 😉👍
Cooper beat Bugner - Gibbs got it wrong. That said, Bugner was a helluva fighter and a credit to his country and to the heavyweight division.
I've seen that fight many times over the years , ii had bugner winning .
@@Lord_Hillcrest02 I’ve seen that fight many +1 times over the years. Cooper won.
@@MyVeryHappyDay Oh well.
@@Lord_Hillcrest02 Thank you, My Lordship.
