When I find myself thinking about a situation, I pray for every person that is involved in that situation. I tell myself they were brought to mind in order to receive a prayer for their benefit. Best wishes 🌸
In the words of The Venerable Bruno Lanteri, "Begin Again" and again, begin again. "Pray with your whole mind, your whole heart, and your whole spirit." "Give God your undivided attention when praying." This is what is meant by fervent prayer. Our teacher in second or first grade, the Nuns in a black and white habit with the bonnet so tight it left a crease on her forehead at Most Holy Name Catholic Church and School in Garfield, NJ, would often say. If we remembered only that, we learned the better part. The Nuns walked our whole class from the school to the church each and every weekday morning for Mass. She talked us through the Mass before our first Communion, pointed out the moments where we were to give God our undivided attention, our mind and thoughts were to be on God, who is in the person of the priest at all times (because we didn't have lectors or deacons reading in the early 60's.) We genuflected whenever the priest entered or processed out as he passed by our pew. We always wore the little circle of lace as a veil pinned to the top of our head and we'd use a handkerchief, even a napkin or a tissue if we forgot to bring a veil. Usually, we wore nice dresses to Church on Sundays and our plaid wool bib jumpers or plaid wool skirts with a pressed white cotton shirt, (shorts for recess or P. E.) ankle socks and black and white saddle shoes. We were brought to confession weekly as a class by the Nuns. These were my first experiences of prayers. The boys and the girls played on separate playgrounds and only under direct supervision, during supervised activities did we play together co-ed. I recall one time when an Irish-Catholic priest spoke to me directly saying, "Always remember that your body is a temple of God." At the same time, he asked if I knew what my name means and he told me that my name, "Amato" means "beloved" in Italian which is a special name. (It is a common name in Italy though.) I'd recommend that the priests speak to the little children because they will probably always remember it.P.S. I was forever imprinted when we all watched the news together as a class, the news of the assassination of President Kennedy on TV during class the day he was shot when I was in the second grade.
It’s funny how you mentioned the “kittens” thing... I often tell people who are trying to cope with something difficult to carry the load like you would a newly born kitten. I guess distractions should be carried the same way -lovely Father, as usual. Happy Eastertide. 🙏 please talk about Pentecost as people seem to be a bit down after their resurrected lift of Easter Sunday and awaiting the gift of the Holy Spirit 😊
Thank you Fr. Columba for your direction on this topic. It's a major problem for me, constantly. I feel soooo much better after listening to you. Such a help to me. I shall most definitely follow your lead on this. God bless you 🙏 you're videos are so helpful.
Awesome that you did this little sharing on this particular topic! So many people have such a fear & feelings of failure due to having so many distractions in their prayers! To the point, in fact, that some just give up and stop praying. If only we all realized what a Mercifully Loving God He is and He is so very pleased that we even try to pray! Never give up praying ! Jesus loves us regardless of the distractions in our prayers. It’s Satan that wants us to get discouraged and quit praying!
Dear Fr Columba I totally understand when you talk about distractions and the mind wandering thank you for understanding that this might be OK on occasions. Makes us realise that we are human. Thank you for your podcast every week
I love the picture you placed in my mind about my 100's of thoughts being like"little kittens" yeah they often feel like heaps and heaps of little kittens that want to run around and play 😂 love your idea of carrying these thoughts gentle like kittens and place them back in their little pen/bed/box, be kind not scolding, love that 💎🙏🏼
I really needed to hear your comments tonight. They are great and hope they will help me when I get distracted in prayer. I like the example of kittens. Thank you!
Yes dear Father, it’s good to hear this from you, i’ve learned to do the same with any distractions in prayer...just giving it all to my Jesus...without getting too worked up about it. 🙏🏻🕊🔥+Thank you+🔥🕊🙏🏻 +May Jesus continue to bless you and make you holy in His Joy and Peace+ Prayerfully +in JMJ+ Angèle
I get sooo distracted during prayer and your talk here gives me hope that I can do better. Your knee cracking sounds like my neck when it cracks. Fun times. . .
Sometimes I have to go back and refocus as I sometimes fumble all over my words in prayer. It’s helpful as you mention to slow down refocus and try again along with an apology to our Lord. 😊
I feel bad that my mind wonders, so I tell the Lord Jesus about it and explain to Him, how disappointed I am at myself. Then He always seems to give me an opportunity to make up for it. For example, I was praying the Chanted Rosary in Latin. I noticed that my mind kept wondering off every time I would pray the Our Father. Yet through the Hail Mary prayers, I was fully consecrated. So I voiced my concern to God about this, telling Him what was happening. Then soon after, when I change the music, I Come across the Our Father song prayer, that is a country song, real pretty and catchy. I not only concentrated but the song touched my heart deeply, thus making up for my lack of concentration earlier. The Lord is kind and patient. We feel annoyed, but He doesn't and if we complain to Him. He will give you opportunities to make up
Hi Father, I was wondering if you could do a video on humility. I have a hard time being humble and loving others. I’m too prideful but I want to be humble. Please keep me in your prayers.
One video Father has done that comes to mind is on “How to love, not use”. I’ll post it here in case you haven’t seen it. ua-cam.com/video/2d3um9OOFCI/v-deo.html
I have ADD, so keeping focused on anything is SUPER hard for me. My mind is constantly running from one thing to another. I need to find something to focus on while praying like a Divine Mercy image or statue of Mary.
My distractions are on the level that I can't even focus on one whole Hail Mary. My mind immediately goes off to explore some part of the prayer and then something related to it, then something less related to it... No matter what I do. It can only be made worse by doing the wrong things, for example, praying tired, not better. I think that's how my mind works. Imagine my Rosary, when you also should meditate during it - there I struggle also with another feature of my mind - not being able to imagine things well and meditate in general. My Rosary takes almost a hour and it's not because I say it so reverently. I guess I enjoy it about the same as St. Therese of Lisieoux but pray it much worse. Hopeless, right? It's connected with the daydreaming - happens all the time to me. The funny thing is, I also get distracted by trying not to be distracted - very quickly I begin to analyze it in some way. Mary, in her messages, often stresses how we should pray with heart - I rarely feel I'm doing it.
God bless you, Mirek, and your sincere efforts to pursue a life of prayer! Know that God is greatly pleased by your efforts, and as for your struggles have you brought them to a priest either in confession or even better perhaps spiritual direction? You might find it helpful to talk these things through with someone in person. Know that you’re in our prayers!
@@ctmcatholic Actually did that today and I was relieved. God is pleased. Also spoke about distractions during Mass and was told that it's very hard to be focused and prayerful with the current liturgy (and the business of the world on top of that), although it has some benefits. But I keep working on it :)
what amazes me is the title of the topic. as if you were forced to pray. when I pray, I am not distracted because I NEED to pray. when I need something, or some support, the prayer just fly out of my heart with so much intensity! and the answer comes right away. when I don't need to pray, I just meditate. and here come the distractions. I don't understand why I should bother god with the bullshit in my head, when so many people could use this attention in a more useful way. so... stop wasting your time, and stop wasting god's time. just learn to meditate.
Hello, Diane! Of course it is great to pray when we need to, but we should also pray when we don't need support or something spedific. I don't think God views whats on our minds as "bullshit" because He loves us and He is Our Father. And He doesn't have any limited time, He is beyond time because He created it, so He can listen to the prayers of people in danger but also to all of the rest. Prayer is never wasting time, it is spending time with God and He loves it!
God bless. Thank you Father. 🌷

Messy messy!! I fall asleep too much saying the rosary
I stopped praying rosary because my thoughts were always elsewhere or too concerned in the count: "Wait, was this the 8th Hail Mary or the 7th..?"😁
