Thank you so much for the this video. I loved this place, I called it home for about five months two years ago and whenever I get 'homesick' I like to look at videos and it just takes me right back.
I see things haven't chance in the slums of the pacific.. ebeye is it all started for me.. glad I left.. I can see people I know in the video.. thanks for post it..
Thanks I needed this Video. I may be soon Working there soon. So I was exploring with you. I can readjust to this life again. I was on Okinawa for 6 years. I cannot wait to be near the SEA again. Your three Videos are very informative.
I liked how you didn't talk over the walking sequences, it was nice hearing the island itself. I thought the island would've seemed more crowded than it looked, seeing it is supposed to be the 5th most densely populated island in the world.
Try filming after sunset...that's where you'll see the people crowded come out. Used to go every weekend with bag of quarters to give out to the kids. Miss my home...
I was at Johnston Atoll in the late 80s. If this place is like that was, good god hand me a razor blade. Johnstons was a nightmare, could not wait to De-Ros back to the world after that TOD. I lost 18 months of my life there, I aint ever gettin back. What a Shat hole
I actually really liked Kwajalein. To me it was interesting exploring the WWII wreckage on the beaches and seeing history rusting in the waves. The climate was a little warm for me, but the ocean was perfect. Full of sharks, but otherwise perfect. I don’t really mind living on a little island. It’s peaceful.
@@FallofftheMap Thanks for the reply big dawg, I am just razzing ya, anyone that was in the sandbox has my respect. Contractor or military, you paid your dues/
Love your stuff. Thanks. I'm a paramedic from Chicago and would love to work there but I train full time via lifting and swimming to prepare for some marathon swims I have planned. Is this a possibility? Also, I'm a carnivore, how is the food situation?
I had some good friends who worked on the Island in the late 70's, worked for Global, on the Island, we were all in Saudi Arabia working, and I would look at the Island photos they carried around, the pay wasn't equal to what we made in Saudi but the job and living conditions on the Island were beautiful, I applied for a position with Global, got the offer to work but I followed the oil fields money around the middle east, a way of life most people don't even know exists working abroad!
Thanks Bob. I really wanted to wait till my new MacBook arrived to edit this one, but I got impatient. I'm kind of kicking myself for the odd camera angle on much of the video. I didn't want to wander around Ebeye like a tourist, sticking my camera in people's faces, so I rigged my iPhone up as a wearable camera with mixed results.
Don't beat yourself up. You did a great job with the video. Just so you know, the Marshallese on Ebeye have become very much used to camera and video equipment. So just "do your thing".
No. It's a US military base and only assigned military personnel and their dependent, or contractors can live there. Flown through Kwaj many times, but as I do not qualify, I could not even get off the plane.
@@papabear562 You can visit and live on all the other islands and atolls the Island Hopper flies to. That being Majuro Kosrae Pohnpei Chuuk Yap Palau They are really small and isolated so life can get a bit boring quite quickly. Especially on Kosrae and Yap, the smallest ones.
EverythingApplePro #1Biggest Fan I’m from Ebeye Marshall Islands and kids over here always ask for food, money and water so if they keep bugging you you’ll give them 25¢ some of the kids here ask for coin because they don’t have a home I will do a vlog about it
I really wanted to do more videos from Ebeye. There are so many stories to be told there. I didn't get the chance. I'm off to a new job in Afghanistan. If you create a video about Ebeye I would love to see it.
I might return soon. I have a job offer to work on rebuilding the airport’s runway lighting. But with all the travel restrictions and me being stuck in Ecuador I don’t know if it will actually happen.
@@FallofftheMap Ecuador? I was in Quito a couple of years ago. I really dig the climate up there. I can't stand the heat in Texas in the summer. I used to live and work on Saipan in the late 80s and mid to late 90s. I really liked it over there. Always an ocean breeze, never over 90 much. Unlike in the Marshall Islands which are basically atolls, Saipan and Guam has mountains and cliffs, more land mass. Not sinking like Majuro and other atolls. I was on Diego Garcia too. An atoll in the Indian Ocean. Talk about isolation. Ill take a more solid island over atolls any day.
Sounds like you get around even more than I do. I’ve actually scooped out jobs on each of the islands you just mentioned but so far haven’t found any good opportunities other than returning to Kwaj. At least I’ll be working nights if I go, so it won’t be too hot.
@@FallofftheMap very cool. I used to work on ships, a military contract, been around for sure. I shipped for 5 years. I then took a job on Saipan as an aircraft mechanic which is what I've been doing for the last 25 years. (I'm in Texas now)But like you, I'm in a plateau with this messed up pandemic like everyone else. I'm still employed but work sucks right now. And days off I'm confined basically. Boring. And it's hot! Well, sounds like you have a cool job. I never been to Kwajelein but I watch you tube videos look nice. I think I would go "batty" after a couple of months there. Like living on a military base. Nice but a sense of not being reality. Speaking from my experience on Diego Garcia years ago. It would be cool for about 3 weeks. They would have to pay me big bucks to get me there for a year contract.
I’m kind of the opposite. I don’t mind being stuck on a small island, base, or camp, though summit station in greenland did start to get old after awhile. That was the smallest permanent station I’ve worked. Kwaj was just the right size. There were a few quiet beaches to explore, a couple bars, a PX. It was all I really needed and not so much that I’d waste money or get too distracted. When I’m on a contract I tend to go into workaholic mode so I can justify taking a year or two off between contracts.
Im just looking at a open position there and decided to look and see what this place is about. really nice Island but...between the sharks and ants....Nahhhh, think it will be way too much a change for me. Where the women at???

Yes it is crowded to the extreme, "Slum of the Pacific"....15,000 residents in a crowded island and still growing with a high birth rate
Try filming after sunset...that's where you'll see the people crowded come out. Used to go every weekend with bag of quarters to give out to the kids. Miss my home...

Fascinating island. 15,000 people in 0.25 square miles.
5th most crowded island in the world, and unlike other crowded places, there are no high rise buildings.
Thank you sir for reminding us on our island.

Food is pretty good, though my cholesterol shot way up there. Yeah, you could probably still manage to train there if you swam in the ocean.
Wow very nice

do you think you will have another job/adventure in Antarctica or was it a one time thing??
I'd put the odds of me returning for another season in Antarctica at 60%.
3:11 ebeye kids asking for quarter😄
aleakboy opp 1 quarter on ebeye meant tons of ice cream for us. 🇲🇭🙌🏼😂
Hahaha
