Will Smith’s relationship with his oldest son, Trey, wasn’t an easy one to cultivate after he and Trey’s mom, Sheree Zampino, divorced in 1995. So in 2018 the actor took to Instagram to reveal the truth about his feelings toward his eldest.

I can relate to how Trey might have felt. When you're not the child who is in the current family, you know that you're not getting a big chunk of time like the other kids are. It can be real, imagined, or a combination of both, but its all about what you perceive the current family is like. In your mind, they spend all their time together and you are left out in the cold. It may not be necessarily true, but in your mind it is.
And all those holidays together and having the ex over like Jada was doing meant absolutely nothing. They did it all for Trey and at the end he still felt like an outsider

This made me cry. When he spoke about taking time alone with each child. I lost my father at 18 and my heart aches for any time with him. I'm a hug fan of the Smith family. This is lovely.
I remember a interview with will in the early 90s, he said he was how he is because of the 2 great men in his life, his father and grandfather and his father stood up tall and proud and he said ‘no Son, you are the way you are because with tears ready to cry,because of your Grandfather,My Father’ at that moment in my life,I got exactly what he meant, because Will’s Father said I can’t take that credit ,it has been passed on after Generation, I felt Proud of the young Women I became because of others around me to take care of People and I always loved and forgive like no others and I think before I speak, loyalty,Integrity,pride,and dignity and respect others like I wanted given to me! I got along with my ex husband's wife, who is now his ex wife. I still include her in all my kid's big events in their lives. In fact, I call her my wife in law. Although neither one of us is with their dad(he has a new wife now), we remained friends.

Very well said!!! I agree 100% They appear to be loving and inclusive of the blended family & techniques and making sure the kids know they are loved! They should be taught love responsibility and consequences/discipline as a part of growing up! Discipline doesn't have to mean a spanking/whooping/ swats but if nothing else works and a spanking will it, never hurt any of the hundreds of trillions of people who came before them!
I had swats growing up which was a quick sure fire way of teaching me don't do that and a quick threat if I even thought of it again would convince me not to do so again! I like some of what the Smiths implemented into their techniques in that the kids rooms belonged to their parents! They were only roomers there until they grew up and got their own homes as such they had responsibilities in being a roomer in their home, such as keeping it clean and their restrooms etc. I think the clean thing had a bit a keep it how u want it vibe so if they trashed it nothing was said but they must keep the rest of the house in order if they got a drink ate etc they needed to clean after themselves in someone's home that didn't necessarily belong to them kind of thing...iwould imagine they worked it that way, I know the roomer like room and board is true heard Will and Jada tell it!
