This method only works when the receiving device is a samsung. It doesn't work with other android phones

You didn't mention that this method won't work for other Androids, like mine is pure version. There is no such options in backup (only to Google)

Will this work to add pictures? I have a galaxy s23 and iphone 15. I go back and forth between them. Can I take the phots from my iphone this past month and transfer just those to the s23?

Weirdly, Smart Switch tells me that I have another 23 hrs to complete the transfer! I hope my new Android doesn't run out of juice!! Plus, What's App is greyed out on the Android.

So, hours later, the process has not even completed. Meantime, by hooking the two phone together with the cable, the iPhone appears to be charging itself against the Android - now 100% vs. 39%.
