The song could be recognized as the most profoundly moving anthem for all eras of youth from the 60's through today...if it doesn't move your heart in a beautiful way, then you have none.
Dame Shirley Bassey still has the same class & elegance she had waaay back in the 60's! She may not sing as much as she did, but she could if she had to!
How can some of you bad mouth this version of Lulu's classic song. I am a HUGE fan of the original '67 version. I was in high school was it was released. A great movie then and now I get tears in my eyes everytime I watch it. I seen it when. It first came out and again today first time in years great memories it gave me. Great song. Love it. RIP Sidney we miss you
Pay attention boys and girls, this is how its done, even at 60 years old, with a soulful touch to her original version, once again LuLu hits one out of the park. I really wish she could have teamed up with some of the top song writers and music composers in the 60s I can only imagine some of the stuff she would have put out.
+John doe - Too true, always loved her voice but didn't really like the songs she was given (too pop styled). She said herself that she never really liked this song and it's why she changed it for AI.
Great minds think alike, Blue Sky....I have thought the very same things. Mark London and Don Black wrote this and a few other good ones for her. However, she had terrible writers for the most part. Imagine her with HDH, Thom Bell, Cynthia Weil, etc....it would have been GLORIOUS!!!

And you deserve 5 stars for your professional smoothness fighting some sound issues throughout the song. I saw you give them that what the heck do your job I cant hear myself look! Damn, she gives me the shivers! In a day when there were no instant stars such as this show promotes she was a standout. This gal has more soul in her little toe than most do in their whole body.
Unbelievable how great she still looks and her voice still strong. If they remade the movie today, she could play the part again and get by with it. rock on Lulu!
Listen! Anyone who can return from the "60's" and belt still belt out a song with as much energy as that has got my attention! From a mellow fellow from the same genre and age; YOU GO GIRLFRIEND, YOU ROCK!!
Each version of "To Sir" I've heard Lulu sing is perfection. The original was and is a landmark. It captured the charts and a generation. Breathtaking. Another rendition on UA-cam is a maturation of the song and the artist. Upon hearing the first note, you know she still has "it." You instantly recognize she could sing "To Sir" the same as the original, note for note. But wait. Her voice is richer, the nuances of velvet and emotion more perfect. The power still riveting yet more focused, more pure. She keeps you enthralled, not knowing where she is going next but when you get there it is beautiful. You are reacquainted with a long lost friend (her as well as the song) and find that they have grown and become so much more than you could have imagined. Exquisite! And now, this iteration. She was there to perform an oldie for a bunch of young hopefuls. Many had probably never heard of her. Possibly, some wondered why Idol was trotting out this person from the past. How do you improve on perfection? By making it new again, by showing that not only do you still have "it" but that there is more to show. Lulu enters the stage and showcases her true, powerful, spectacular talent. A talent refined and enriched by experience. A song performed with honest emotion as fresh as the first time you heard it in 1967. My God, just when you realize her pipes are still one of the most fantastic gifts given to mankind, she belts out those last notes and you are left speechless, unable to take a breathe. Yet again Lulu made me love this song and absolutely adore her voice. If you think I "gush too much" have look at the kid's faces in this vid. At the start they seem somewhat impressed. By the end they are in awe, eyes wide and mouths agape. They have just witnessed "it"... "it" is pure... "it" is perfection.

Loved the original from the movie, totally inspirational movie for its time in depicting social & racial inequality, a brave move for the directors and cast. I lived in the Midlands, Nottingham, in the sixties, and recall how popular this was then. This is a great updated rendition of the original. Sounds great, thanks Lulu
