Wow! What a find! I was in the press box for that game. Got press credentials to see the game on a vacation day. Filed a story with my newspaper, but they still opted for the AP feed. Something about having to pay me overtime. LOL Anyway, I got to see the game for free with the perks of the working media.
Obscure and unique find. The original commercials is a major bonus as well. the Haggar leisure suit commercial was a throwback to 70s awful polyester clothing!
Thank you so much for posting this! It's great to see the old Jayhawk mascot and Baby Jay @1:07! Nolan Cromwell played safety for the LA Rams later on. If you have the 1973 Liberty Bowl between KU and NC State that would be great to!
Nolan Cromwell would wear a bowl hair cut with the Rams. He could have played QB, but played DB until he switched to FS and was a Pro Bowler from 1980-83 and 1st team All Pro 1980-82.
Yup, great athlete Saw him at my high school when he ran the obstacle course vs Lynn Swann in the “superteams” competition after the Super Bowl loss vs the Steelers
@@georgemichael9106 Back then ABC was the only station that showed regular season games. Living in California we had heard of Dorsett but never saw him other than occasional highlights. This was the first game I saw him live.
This Kansas team upset Oklahoma, who won the national championship that year…. This Pittsburgh team would win the national championship the following year in 1976.

He was shocked I knew who he was and we talked about that game
@@jamesfields2916 I was 14 in San Jose and that was the first real hype I remember for a Spartans game. Televised to the entire West Coast and they delivered a butt-whipping. Then got burned when it came to a bowl invitation. Probably why the California Bowl appeared a couple years later.
Johnny couldn't make that comment at 1:27 now days.Politixal police would have been pulled him at halftime. Trevino would have done 2nd half commentary.
Kansas beating Oklahoma should have tipped Natty to Arizona State. See BYU in 84. Ohio State sure missed out on an opportunity in Archie's last game. 75, first season I followed College Football
Youngster. Haha, I started in 67, but I was pretty young. BYU should never have been champ with their struggle to beat 6-5 Michigan. But, then, nobody else was that good that season if I remember correctly. Flutie and BC would have eaten up BYU and so would others. Michigan was terrible I’m no Sooner fan, but in a bowl game they would have beaten ASU I believe. The only two teams of note that ASU played were Washington and Nebraska. Washington was in Don James first season and dismissed 6-5 and Nebraska was unbeaten until OU thrashed them. They were less than enthused with the Sun Bowl and it showed.
@@nathaniellathy6559 I always hate it when there's two national champions. Like in 2003 when LSU was given one when USC was a far better team and proved it every time they played an SEC team. They blew them all out back then.
@@bradtaylor4765The Arizona schools were in the WAC (Western Athletic Conference) at this time. They didn’t join the PAC-8 (to make it the PAC-10) until 1978.

It’s amazing that your eardrums weren’t blasted by that super loud PA announcer!

The Sun Bowl is the 2nd oldest bowl game. Only the Rose Bowl is older.
Orange, Sugar and Sun Bowl began in 1935.
This was REAL college football..NO SHOWBOATING..

Herb Tarlek (Frank Bonner) @ 50:07
1:00:35 Pretty sure this Andre' commercial played every holiday season well into the mid-80s
Sadly, it was replaced by Andre the Giant.
what is Cold Duck? when totally hammered?
Bring it home for the holidays.
Never knew Paul did PBP; WIKI only mentions his 1982 year with LSU,on pay TV. Miss Lindsay Nelson and Paul calling CBS games .
That was my 1st thought. Okay, two color commentary guys. 3:30
Considering he was an All-Pro NFL defensive back, Nolan Cromwell was a damn good option quarterback in college.

@CraigCulby-b5s the Oklahoma win over pitt was the 2nd game of the season
Pitt was a different team by then, they thumped Kansas
Kansas was coached by Bud Moore, who had played for Bear Bryant at Alabama.
@CraigCulby-b5s I believe OU was first team to lose a game in November and win the national title.
And T.D. would win the Heisman Trophy
Nolan Cromwell, HOF defensive back for the L A Rams.
I think that Dorsett guy might turn out to be an ok player.
Decent
Franklin King from Pocatello and Billy Campfield went to Mtn Home High School, two Idaho lads....
Great game!🎉
Paul and Lee could party up back in the day! LOL!
Each team well over 300 yards rushing. Pitt first team in NCAA history to have three players rush for over 100 yards.
That’s when football players knew how to wear their uniforms.

You know it’s a big game if Lee Trevino shows up
That beautiful wishbone formation
Let's take minute to appreciate how classy Dorsett dressed down to his Pumas.
