    No current limiting resistor for the LEDs, no ceramic bypass capacitor on the 555 supply rails to stop them from oscillating at VHF?

    Guys, would this entire circuit be able to withstand 18v (2× 9v) without additional resistors? I would like to use 12v truck lights instead of individual LEDs. I've already tested my lights with 18v and they can handle it.

    1. Use perfboard instead of soldering cimponents in mid air.
    2. Use a 556 which is two 555's in the same die.
    3. Insert one end of the wire in the heat shrink tubing, then solder the other one on and slide the tubing over the joint.

    A note to the wise: Always have in mind when soldering - that both LED's & (in particular) IC's can take just _so_ much heat, or they'll be ruined . . . .

    Can we make a smaller simple version with 1 smd led each color?

  • @johnjlong
    @johnjlong 4 роки тому

    I built this with just two LED's and it worked reliably like the in the video, but it eventually burned out one of the LED's. It seems that the output voltage from the IC2 is around 7 volts, which is too much for the LED to handle. Presumably, that's why there were 4 LEDs(?). Not sure though since I'm not all that knowledgeable about this stuff. I tried to add a resistor to lower the voltage, but the timing becomes erratic and unpredictable. So my question is, is there a more reliable way to do this for just 2 LED's? I'm not having much luck getting the timing to sync up or even operate predictably at the speeds I want. Ultimately, what I need is for the first LED to blink twice, then flip to the second LED and also blink twice, then repeat, but at a relatively slow rate. I'm just not having much luck getting it to work reliably. I'm about to give up in the dual 555 timer circuit altogether.

    You could really shake up the model police car community if you can come up with an 8 light system that can be programmed with different flash patterns per light pair, examples 75fpm, 90fpm, 150fpm, alternate versions of those and so on, I am saddened by the huge lack of realistic flash patterns offered by people who make custom police cars. Maybe integrate Whelen Wecan files that could be flashed onto a chip or something.

  • @my2centz196

    That was pretty cool although I don't understand how it works lol. I didn't pay attention to the diagrams but I did watch it assembled. How can all the leds be connect together and work like that? I'm not saying it's wrong because I have very little knowledge of this stuff I just don't understand how the red and blue lights would blink independently.

    • @xavip3296
      @xavip3296 5 років тому +1

      Hi there. I guess is because leds are basically diodes and only alight if electricity flows accordingly to its direction. Even blue and reds leds are soldered “together” they are allocated in opposite directions, see diagram 5:40. This circuit has the function to control the electricity from the battery to leds, in terms of intervals (the flashing) and direction (polarity causing only some leds alight). As you say, I know nothing about this stuff and just wondered the same. Did I little googling research. If I m wrong someone correct me.

    • @ldsmanglobal1617
      @ldsmanglobal1617 5 років тому

      It's about polarity. Simple and clear. One IC gives the rapid impulses, the other changes the colour (polarity). That is all.

    It's amazing how people squabble over the little things that won't make a difference. This circuit is poorly constructed and crude, but people have to consider its not going to be part of a space shuttle, so it really doesn't matter. A 556 could have easily been used, but maybe the builder only had triple 5's available. I don't know. Personally I would have used an Arduino nano and written a sketch. Easy peasy.
