- This is the Definitive Video for watching Sonic Adventure 2's Story. I used the Cutscene Revamp mod to restore lost effects from the Dreamcast. There's also no upgrades besides knuckles, so you can focus on the characters. Knuckles has two necessary upgrades. There's no mod to disable upgrades in story cutscenes, so I had to replay the game without upgrades and use mods to get past obstacles.
I edited all the cutscenes together into a coherent 4K/60FPS movie format. I only showed gameplay if I thought it was necessary to understand the story better. The SA2B Intro, I used Dolphin Emulator for the best graphics, since I couldn't make an ultimate edition without including it. All cutscenes are in canon logical order.
In boss fights I play with the character I believe actual won, or got closest to winning. Yes I have Eggman beat Tails on the Ark, the story doesn't make as much sense if Tails won. I believe it was more of a Tie, but Eggman ended up with the emerald, he was never on the ground lying around. That is just for the Heroes story. In the dark side story Eggman instantly calls Shadow after their fight. Eggman wouldn't have been able to call shadow telling the location of Sonic, if he was lying next to Tails. Eggman also wouldn't have had enough time to grab the emerald next to Tails, and then sprint to the ark's control room, as it took Sonic several minutes, unless Eggman really is faster than Sonic. xD

This is my Birthday Treat to myself and you all! Sonic Adventure 2 is my Favorite Sonic Story to date, Even if the models don't have modern animations, these characters just have so much emotions and are very relatable. Such an Epic Story for a game made in 2001.

Fun fact: every cutscene to this game is canon. There is no multiple paths. Each story takes you to the ending. To get the whole story, you need to play the whole game. Great writing, Shiro Maekawa is the best.

Sadly, Sonic is not world renowned hero yet in the movie, but he has already been G.U.N. renowned threat.
Basically, I would have agreed with this statement, except that when I think about it, I don't see the point of reviewing the same scenario.

The most hilarious thing is how shadow and sonic look nothing alike but people see a hedgehog and go "ah yes. this is clearly sonic."
This game means so much to me. I grew up on it as a kid and it holds more nostalgia for me than any other game, and I've only grown to love and appreciate the story more over the years. Not a perfect game, but I love it for all its imperfections.
Facts
I know this is a old video but, I can't but help every time I see the completion of this game I just smile and cry just before his last words are: "Sayonara, Shadow The Hedgehog." Just seeing all these characters at the end of all this, the entire journey though. It was all worth it in the end. Anyways Thank you Sonic Overtime for uploading this, your disk drive space holding all of this is much appreciated. ^^ 👍

Say what you will about the standards of writing in Sonic games, but this was one of the better stories in the series.

I'd go as far as to say it's actually the best written one.
Eggman isn't a bumbling buffon, he's an actual villain taking things seriously, and you take him seriously. That mixed with Shadow's story, and Rouge's big bat bapzls, you've got a 10/10 plot with excellent characters that keep you hooked.
Hell, even Amy plays a important role in reminding Shadow of Maria's message to do good and, despite human nature being capable of evil, we're also capable of good, and for him to have hope.
No sonic game has matched this game's characters, plot, and setting since.

Dude this was amazing. So much nostalgia. You did an amazing job piecing the story together like this. It’s currently 2:30am on a Monday and i gotta work in 4 hours but it was so worth it hahaha. This is by far the best 3D sonic game of all time. The music the story lines. The sarcasm and over all personality and emotions of the characters. So good. 🤙

Kinda wish Sega would do an HD remake of SA/SA2. Doesn't even have to be a full-blown remake, but better models and textures. Let's be honest, the cutscenes don't exactly hold up decades later either, so having those redone in a modern engine would be nice, as well.

I really wish they’d remake it again. It’d be really nice seeing how it’d look in the modern era, and giving people a taste of how the Sonic games actually are at their peak potential (plus, the voice acting *cough cough* audio, and the cutscenes would be improved greatly at HD honestly)
I would love SA1 and 2 remakes, the og ones are from meh to bad, but they have SO MANY COOL IDEAS, they just need more polishing, better level design and controls so those cool ideas can finally shine properly

Well if that was to actually happen, there would be a lot of empty filling in the blanks for.
For example the chaos emerald that has been in Tails possession for the entirety of this game is from when he was awarded after stopping Eggman in Sonic Adventure 1, Amy not introduced yet, etc

Just to be clear, you can see Knuckles without any upgrade, you just need to activate the "Have all upgrades" box in SA2 ModLoader, now everyone will have their upgrades but the flag to show them in cutscenes won't be activated, it is only activated when collecting them in-stage.
My favorite cutscene is where they're at the door to his base in the Pyramid. On Dreamcast and GameCube we couldn't see Amy because the screen was in 4:3. Now with Widescreen that doesn't work properly, we can see her lifeless husk.

It really angers me when people boil down rouge to fanservice when in her early days, like shadow, despite being a gem theif she was also a clever and really compitent government agent, also capible of a soft side.

21 years later, this game still captivates me every time. I wish they would have left Shadow dead. Hell, I wish that this was the last sonic game. It was designed to be the last sonic game I think...with those after credit scenes "goodbye sonic. forever."
While Shadow's sacrifice is certainly benevolent, I kind of like that they kept him around. I just wish they would have given his revival a better story...

Tbh I hated how they treated Amy here, I love her dedication though, although the characters treated her badly, in the end she was actually the one who saved the planet, by convincing shadow.
Amy is actually such a strong girl
And just clinging to sonic and others is her love language, as you can see when she said “if I tell you about that black hedgehog (shadow) will you marry me?”
She was obviously joking. She loves sonic and admires him, she always tries to learn from him, to improve her powers, that’s why she’s always following him around (I’m not the only one saying)
Gosh I love her, she’s so cute, dedicated, smart and strong
I can tell you something else too…sonic probably leaves her behind because he doesn’t want her to be involved in what he’s doing since it’s dangerous and he’s worried about her, be I like how Amy is persistent and is trying to prove herself that she’s strong as well

Sonic X actually remade the stories of the 2 adventure games. Those are the best way to watch the story of Sonic Adventure 1 and 2 in my opinion

This video looks awesome. It looks so neat and even better that it’s full screen :D Best Sonic game to me and my top favorite. I absolutely LOVE Sonic Adventure 2. Never gets old. I grew up playing Sonic Adventure 2 Battle on the GameCube although I wish I got to play the original one on the Dreamcast. This game, along with Sonic Adventure and Sonic Heroes - these 3 games are my favorites :)
Someone told me to watch this when I said I loved when Eggman was actually villainous and not a joke

Ok, the only voice I actually LOVE is Tails'. Coleen O'Shaughnessy is great, but this sounds like an actual kid was voicing him. It's very cute!
because it IS an actual kid voicing him, at least, it was at the time. Corey Bringas voiced Tails in Sonic Adventure, and his younger brother Connor Bringas voiced Tails in Sonic Adventure 2 since Corey had outgrown the role.
