  • Yet another weekend kayaking trip in Stockholm's beautiful and kayak friendly archipelago. Here is a link to a map of our trip kartor.eniro.se/m/iOVQ5
This trip was meant to be weekend kayak trip with colleagues from work, but luckily they were either busy or sick during the weekend as Saturday turned out being quite windy with side wind gusts over 12 m/s! We started at Rävnäs around 2:30 pm on Saturday and returned to Rävnäs the next day around 7 pm. That would have been a bit too tough for them considering how experienced they are in kayaking.
After the first half hour we started going mainly east with the wind at out backs. We crossed the shipping channel at Lerskärsgrund and continue to Inra Hamnskär where we camped.
Next morning we decided to go further out into the southeast part of Söderarm's archipelago. This trip was somewhat magical with all the small channels and glacier polished shore lines and not much wind.
After lunch we went first straight eastward to avoid backtracking our path and then turned north later to cross the shipping channel at Lerskär again.
Here are some entry points into the video:
0:00 - 1st day afternoon "Wind and Waves"
6:47 - camping on Inra Hamnskär
    8:17 - 2nd day morning "A Magical Sunday Morning"
21:16 - 2nd day afternoon "A Pleasant and Varied Return Trip"

Thank you guys for taking the time to share this awesome video. I'm locked up in my small apartment for 16 days now, obeying the quarantine because of Covid-19, and I was so bored so I decided to do exercises watching beautiful landscapes with my video beam. It was awesome, I felt like I was kayaking for real. Greetings from the Colombian Coffee Region!

When you paddle in places like this where it is quite shallow, do you scrape up the kayak bottom much? 😎

I must admit that I really enjoy kayaking in tight and sometime shallow canals as well as 'rock hopping' over underwater rocks. So yes, I do frequently add scratches to my kayak bottoms. But these are only surface scratches in the gelcoat. I have never had to repair any of my kayak bottoms not even on my old red & white 'Eskimo' kayak which I bought used back around 1987.
The gelcoat on my old kayak's keel did wear through in a couple of spots due to pulling the kayak on to shore too many times. On these spots I used 2 component epoxy glue as a emergency and temporary (or so I thought) ugly fix.
But I have though once, for appearance only, tried to restore my oldest kayak bottom by using gelcoat filler, a bit of sanding and painting with some boat epoxy paint (or was it gelcoat?). But with the small amount of paint needed it was hard to accurately mix the correct amount of hardener. The result was a good looking kayak bottom but VERY TACKY EVEN AFTER 2 WEEKS! You should have seen what the bottom looked like after being set down on a parking lot with a fair amount of loose gravel. I must have had a couple hundred small rocks stuck to the bottom of my kayak 😏. If I remember correctly, I had to use an ice scraper to remove the stickiest unhardened areas on the bottom. I guess you can not be surprised to hear that I have not done any more fixes with gelcoat. If the need arises I will have some professional do it next time.
To my excuse, I have never owned a brand new kayak. If I had, I would have probably been more careful with it, but not have as much fun with it 😉

Fabulous - as are all your vidoes. I have to kayak there sometime. Incidentally, what is the music? It is hauntingly beautiful and atmoshpheric.

Sorry about such a late response. I must have missed your question. I am guessing you are referring to the second tune starting at 8:22 . It is 'Temple of Silence' by Deuter.
