  • Introduction to Beijing Shuai Jiao put on by Sonny Mannon, co-founder & Head Trainer for Guang Wu Shuai Jiao.
The goal of the training was to give participants concrete exercises and skills while also giving an introduction to our system as a whole and how we train.

    Part Four: Q & A
This was an opportunity for participants to ask different questions about our system and Shuai Jiao in general. In this clip we have:
-other applications of one of the leg movements from part two and short discussion on foot sweeps and training.
-A short breakdown of the different types of inside leg trips in Shuai Jiao which are known as “De He”.
Audio and video quality of Zoom Recordings is poor, but it cannot be avoided.
    Other Videos in Series:
Part One: Introduction & Waist Exercises
In this section I take some time to introduce myself and talk a little about our association and Beijing style Shuai Jiao. We then go over a few fundamental waist exercises explaining in detail the body mechanics and how they relate to techniques. The goal was to show that even the most basic exercises in Shuai Jiao have a purpose and through training we not only create the necessary movement patterns needed but also create a training language that allows for better feedback, critique and instruction.
    Part Two: Fundamental Leg Movements
In this section we go over two of our fundamental leg techniques and demonstrate how they relate to a non cooperative setting. Our fundamental leg techniques have direct application and deal mainly with becoming harder to throw although each movement will also have an offensive application as well. The goal was to show how our intent shapes our practice. The purpose and application of the technique creates the intent. Intent and proper body mechanics shape our solo practice. When these are in harmony your solo practice will carry over into a non cooperative live setting.
    Part Three: Technique Breakdown
In this section we breakdown some important aspects of the common Shuai Jiao technique Shou Bie Zi. We discuss common mistakes, important points and different ways to set up the technique. The goals was to show the level of technical breakdown in our system and how we use this to teach our techniques.

This was an opportunity for participants to ask different questions about our system and Shuai Jiao in general. In this clip we have:

-In short breakdown of the different types of inside leg trips in Shuai Jiao which are known as “De He”.
    Part Five: Q & A
-A discussion of the different footwork patterns used for setting up throws and why top level Shuai Jiao players favor the ‘pulling waist step’ over ‘back step’.
-A demonstration of some of my preferred throws which turns into a discussion of throws which only use upper body contact rather than the normal upper body and lower body(two points of contact) contact. Sometimes these are referred to as “empty throws’ because the lower body point of contact is not there, or ‘empty’.
-A short discussion and demonstration on how techniques can be adjusted to fit different body types or to fit a particular wrestlers strengths.

Judoka here. I appreciate how we all in the end do the same things. Those Ouchi gari variations at the end are well explained and its interesting how the competition rules shape the way we train. How did some MA youtuber once said.
'On the way up the mountain all paths look different and far away. Once we are nearing the peak they all converge and finally there is only one peak.'
    Nice work! Keep training! 💪

Where do you do target that initial compression type sweep? Do you make contact at the ankle?
