Jammin Jeff you are a dynamic drummer..JuJu is a great drummer...So was Sugarfoot Ricky Wellman who played with Miles Davis..But I got to give shout outs to some of the guys who were on the scene in DC before them and the gogo beat took over..Raymond Calhoun who ended up with the Gap Band and wrote the song "Outstanding"..Mousey Thompson (James Brown), Warren Shadd(Smoke), Freddie Ross( Matadors), Bobby Wiggins(Shadows), Greg Holloway (Last Days of Time), Keith Kilgo(Blackbyrds) and all of the drummers at Howard U.and UDC music programs. Some of them are still playing today. Just sharing the names of some of the people who helped lay the foundation for the DC sound.
So funkin cool.. Great footage and a really great sound for live outdoor small gig. Such great music and space understanding with all the musicians.. juju is groove force that's not easy to get near.. legend
HE BE JAMMIN HE BE JAMMIN JEFF hey fam just subscribed to your channel. Keep posting and ima comment and share bro. Always a pleasure, JUJU GIT BIZY 1 TIME, GO JUJU GO JU GO All Love fame, Tony-Tone (BackRoad)
From 13:25 on that's the real "Experience Unlimited " not " EU "...That funk/fusion/rock groove they are cranking was the reason back in the day people loved them even before they switched to GoGo.
Nah Kid you got it wrong.....JuJu has always been an icon going back to the Peace Makers with Gary DeWitt and JUJU Fox and Tim das what made EU crank....Somebody sed he looked tired but JuJu always played like that but he still razor sharp on them toms. Far as the new generation Blue eyed Darryl sed UNK was washed up coz he lost his love for the city but maybe not. Jammin Jeff was the sharpest thing out bringing in the new era of drummers. Before Stomp and Buggy got well known Jeff was drumming at the high level JuJu was in the 80's. Footz was smooth and tight but he parlayed too long and kids like JuJu stepped up and took his crown in the late 80's. Also I must mention Hott Cold Sweat drummer "Jammin Jay" people sleep on him but Jeff and Rock Steady had the most explosive two man band back then. Plus you can tell JuJu been partying too much and he look like he been getting high too much I remember JuJu used to own Landover Mall ...He cud walk around like the DON in da mall broads were all over him. Briggs music store upstairs...y'all remember ? Sugar Bear found Scooter up there one day. Scooter was EU horn player he from dat Cap Hgts townhouse crew along with Eddie Winslow from da Ayre Rayde Band. Just a lil history fam but I still vote Jammin Jeff sharpest drummer on scene once the 80's died off.
Bad man no doubt BUUUUT , it also depends on the STYLE you like . All drummers don't play same . Sugarfoot played a more slowed down TEMPO . He had to slow down with the type of music Chuck played . Ju play all styles and can bounce beat too . He is the LOOSEST drummer . Can sit down and do it without warming up
@@seanfromdaheights1508 I feel ya ....but please don't get me wrong juju is a mfing beast ..I remember all of them Butch ...Rick...Juju Then Mac ...Trouble but when I saw Sugarfoot for the first time at the Coliseum with EU because Chuck in my opinion didn't let him loose...man I ran home asked moms for a drum set ...lol next weekend I was at Chuck Levins... He’s doing a good job banging but where is it going the barest drummer I ever heard was skinny Brown from Charlottesville Virginia skinny had it all in his early days he weighed in at 275 lbs he could double clutch had a killer down off beat and could roll with his left hand better than most drummers with 2 hands which created a glare when he went around the world on all his drums when we came back up dropping bombs he would incorporate the funkiest off timing rhythm unheard of ……Skinny Brown….
Why does everything have to be a competition? And I'm pretty competitive when it's appropriate. But music is really all about ones subjective tastes and preferences.
@@theworkoutethic true. But back in the day, that’s what these bands did, they were fierce competitors. Most of these bands didn’t like each other and they bragged about having the best drummers. What happen to Marvin one of the original members
Shout to percussionists too please
Where was this?
Jerome Bailey from Parliament, and there is a white man named Phil Collins from Genesis😮
The Goat hands down. The only person that comes close to juju is buggy
The BEST PERCUSSIONIST ON PLANET EARTH ARE FROM MY HOME TOWN WASHINGTON D . C. POINT BLANK PERIOD !!!! END OF DISCUSSION !!!!
Regardless of the competitiveness amongst drummers, I have to give it to EU because every member in the lineup tore it UP....
Honestly, JuJu wasn't the greatest go-go drummer. Sugar Foot Rick was. In the 80's, Sugar Foot played for Chuck and EU.
Sugar Foot was a monster
Exactly. I agree 100%. But don’t forget about Butch. He is on the Paragon Two joint.
