Freeskate orignated from surfskate, the both are similar to ride.
You notice they always skate on level ground, never go up or down a hill with them.
It's called flat tricking, It's just a way of riding like many others.
But you can still downhill and uphill even if it isn't the most interesting way too use freeskates
