Thanks for your great video's, such down to earth information. We have recently got a Vizsla puppy, I haven't found any video's focussing on this breed. Would you compare them broadly to the Vizsla or are there any significant differences? Would love to use your services but we are located in NZ!
Thank you for the wonderful information that you have provided....I recently rescued a mix of German shorthaired pointer and Weimaraner mix...he's a sweet boy and does all the things that you have shown here...where did you get uour whistles so that I can purchase some of my own....will definitely keep watching.
First time GSP owner.....This video just made my life so much easier. He's not pulling on the leash and I'm not pulling on him when he stops and sniffs. Found out he never goes more than 10-20 yards away from me anyway. Thank you, I love your energy I'm learning a lot!
I got a GSP when i turned 16, and had him for a solid 16 years. Absolutely amazing and loving dog, but BOY was I not ready for that level of energy! Most hyperactive dog I've ever seen. Once I realized I had to exercise him for hours and hours every day, and throw a ball until my arm fell off, we started having an amazing life together. He was my hiking and backpacking companion too, and Absolutely loved it. Man, I miss that dog; he was my life companion for so long, I still tear up whenever I see a GSP. Thanks for the overview and highlight of the best dog I've ever had.
Mike Wallace welcome to my world! You just boosted up my confidence! I’m a dog trainer with MS. It ain’t the trip or fall it’s how fast you pop back up and how much you can laugh about it! 😎
I just wanted you to know how much I appreciate your humility during your “almost” fall. We have a 5yo female GSP and we’ve just adopted a 1yo male GSP. I thought I was watching a video of me! Happens to me all the time and you are 100% correct on the getting older part as well. I’m 53 and I am reminded daily that my agility and youth are fading. Again, thank you! Class act! I subscribed and look forward to all the knowledge. Sincerely, Landon H. GSP Lover!
Your dog overviews are very interesting. I'd like to see more of them. It is especially helpful to me to hear distinctions between obstinate behavior of individual dogs versus natural behaviors of different dog breeds.
Fabulous to watch, thanks Stonnie. In 1998, I found two GSPs in a rescue home, in the UK. I was a GSP Virgin, though a country girl. Bracken was the boy of 26 months and Holly, girl of 14 months. Abandoned together by a working couple who had no time for them, the dogs were taking the wallpaper down in their house. The couple had multiple fights and left the dogs, arguing about who actually took care of them, and the next door neighbour brought them to the rescue home. Lots of problems for me because the dogs had not had any formative training, except giving a paw. We had a very active outdoor life with them every day, outdoors for up to five hours at a time. But no-one to teach me all the things you talk about, all the HPR. No internet then either. The dogs taught me that they were not lost, it was my fault for not staying where they last saw me and/or not maintaining contact, as you do with the whistle. Outreach is hard to learn. Am laughing a little bit, because you are walking around the fields, crops, just as we did in the UK. Looks just the same, with hedgerows alongside the field. Every day with Holly & Bracken was a blessing, a challenge, an adventure, and I believe I gave them both a life they needed and deserved. I still miss them.
I just rescued a GSP mix last month from my local animal shelter. I had no idea he was a GSP really. I just loved his look and had been wanting a lovable dog to go hiking with. I love the outdoors (hunting fishing). I’ve been taking him on 3-5 mile hikes as many days as I can. I’ve had sooo many times I got frustrated with some of his behaviors but now I truly understand the dog. He goes off leash with me now with a E-collar as long as we’re alone. I’ve had him chase after whitetails and birds in the tall grass in the open fields. He’s always running 100mph. He’ll crash in the creek bottoms and bounce off trail when he catches a sniff of something. Up until this point I’d be very strict with him but now I get it and let him be himself as much as possible. I love the dog and the bond we’re creating with one another.
Stonnie, you remind me of every single 60 gunner from my days in the Ranger Regiment. The way you gate, carry weight and even your arm swings. Weird, but it makes me smile.
Stonnie, I'm 5 minutes into this video and I'm just loving the work you put in. The handouts and sensitivity to lab owners are recognized. Also, as I am a female...I'm so happy that you include your daughter into your videos along with your amazing sons. My day off is Wednesday and I watch your videos specifically on my days off. Thank you Uncle Stonnie! You are beyond expectations. Shout out to Eli!!! You are an amazing camera guy!! Much love and support ❤️
Tommy bouncing around at 44:00 is so precious. Thank you for posting this longer format, it's super helpful to see a GSP in a real environment, see their behaviour, personality, etc. Great video!
Such a gentleman, that trip up didnt even phase you .you didn't even tell the other dogs to stop or go lay down .love your calmness .Dont be embarrassed you handled that with elagance and kindness and calmness
Hi, I'm watching this video from Finland. Thank you for enlightening so many aspects of training a young German shorthaired. I've got a 17 wks old German wirehaired ponter and I got so many new ideas of getting along.
So exciting to be 3 hours away and see our 4 month old black lab, Bella Blue, in the beginning of this video... Bella is not the one with the white spot on its chest or the one with the collar but the pup that only been there since Thursday and we know she is in the best environment to become a terrific well trained family member …thanks Stonnie, Eli, AMY & George all all the other dog lovers🐕👏
Now your trying to give the secret away. I've gotten several from newlyweds & chicken people for nothing. Damn dog keeps chewing up the house & killing my chickens just come get it!
I always had weimaraners, which share a lot in common with the GSP. I always let mine free roam/run everyday out in the wilderness/trails. They never got too far from me. Always checking in to see where I was, and every 2 minutes coming running back to me on their own. Their natural "neediness or separation anxiety" always has them coming back and checking in. I absolutely love the pointer breeds.
Osage Orange. We found them while pheasant hunting in Iowa. I believe they used to plant it for natural fences. “Horse high, hog tight and bull strong” was what one site said about it. Another great video. I love seeing the different breeds and learning about their tendencies.
Thank you for being such an honest and direct trainer. I just put my 14 yo GSP to rest and am thinking about getting another even though I'll be 60 next year. I miss her dearly and never had a better exercise and home campanion.
Thank you for a great video! I watch your videos to learn. However, tonight the video brought back a flood of memories. I had a GSP that was my hunting partner for 17yrs. From the time he was about 12wks, I taught him to quarter fields, always within shotgun range - in our area it seems the quail didn’t read the book and know they were supposed to hold for the point. He was the best pointing dog I’ve ever seen. FWIW, as per your videos, I now have an English Lab. Unlike my high energy GSP she is quite content to sit in a blind waiting for ducks to come to us. For a person well past his prime she is the perfect house dog and occasional hunter. One last thing, you saved me a lot of grief with your Malinois video. I had thought of getting one for the ranch, but you convinced me it’d never work out for me or the dog. Thank you for sharing what you do.
This was a really great video. You showed some good training, you had the dogs in a large variety of environments, you gave some really great advice about the importance of socialization to environments as well as people and animals, and your breed review was one of the most accurate I have seen. Yes, they are good tempered, attractive, athletic, delightful animals, but just as you said, the requirements for exercise are very easy to underestimate. But we are out with our gsp for about 2 hours, rain or shine. The other point I would add is that it is so rewarding to see how much the gsp loves exploring open terrain that it seems to triple the pleasure of hiking anywhere and I usually feel completely elated on the drives home.
I'm so glad I got a GSP. From 8 weeks old I said this dog acts like a little wolf puppy! She walks like one, plays like one, hunts like a machine, and bites like one! Those teeth are razors. ANyway I agree, taking my dog to a field gives both of us a lot of pleasure. You can see how much they love it in the way they move through an open field.
multiple solid points. from someone who has a 2year old male. I live in the suburbs and am more active than most people. I do take him hunting when i can he loves every bit of it. But when i cant i personally take him out on running trails in the woods or hiking trails and let him roam and run and dart back and forth. he will catch scent and go off but i have never questioned whether he was coming back or not. If this happens to you as an owner. DONT FREAK OUT! trust me stay in the general area they last saw you in and wait...call their name...blow a whistle (highly suggested) they will come back. I think the longest i ever lost my guy for was maybe 3-5 min. When he ran back he had a piece of deer hide in his mouth *eye roll* they're amazing dogs.
I love this, especially the quick recharge. I would take my 2 gsps for couple hour hike, off Leah in a safe area, and they would be satisfied and recharge on the drive home. I would be ready for a nap, and a 2o min drive home would recharge them.
Really? I have lots of parks near me and plan to exercise it a lot. But worried about the times I have to leave it home. You think they can be lazy at home and handle a few hours a day , even alone?
I loved my GSP's -you have to expect a "athletic and high energy" for sure. The dogs were wonderful with the kids. training and exercise - fun - exercise. we changed over to black labs when my youngest was 4 and our last GPS passed. I still can't miss an opportunity to say hello to a GPS I meet. My uncles dog Cleo would keep running in the field and didn't know when to stop - my uncle had to check her pads because she would keep going past what was good for her.
Now I’ve had her for two years and I swear I’ve found my spirit animal, soulmate and my breed for life. Affectionate, smart, hyper focused, goofy, easily trainable and obedient.
Diehard GSP fan, my two are 14 and 13, just bought 20 acre upstate SC farm for my three horses. The three of us are ecstatic. We are outside for hours, happy tired too. Great video , love your expertise, honesty and sense of humor.
I had a German short haired pointer for about 6 years and we had to rehome him for a couple different reasons but I wish we never did. It was my parents decision. He was a great dog he just loved running our neighborhood. and we were worried he would get ran over. He needed land to run on. We had him since he was 8 weeks old up to 6 years old and we kept in contact with the people we rehomed him to and got news he passed away at 9 years old. He had heart worms. No one saw it coming he was up running all happy the day before. But now my parents are in a better place in life my dad now has 32 acres and we are searching for our new German short haired family member. I love the breed I’m super excited to welcome a new member!
I found out that I adopted a short haired German pointer from the humane society earlier this year after I signed and paid for his adoption. At least that’s what the humane society thinks his breed is. I thought he was handsome when I saw him in the kennel and that’s what attracted me to him. They estimated his age to be around 2 years old or so when I adopted him. Everything you said about GSPs is true. He is high energy, strong, has that hunting instinct, stubborn, playful, attention seeker and a love bug. I love him to death!! Thank you for your information!
Still going through this video, we had one growing up as kids this dog is amazing. I remember siblings as children throwing sand in its face and this dog just took it, no aggression. I witnessed it attack a bull terrier in the 80s when in came into our yard. Beautiful family dog, very loyal. Love them
Hi Stonnie, Thanks so much for another great video! I really enjoyed this video. My GSP girl Lilly is just over a year old. She is a hunter through and through. Can run for hours. Chased a jackal into the mountains the other day, when we took her out to the farm. Staying in Namibia, we have a severe drought right now, so our dams are all empty. Cannot wait for rain to fall, so that the dams can fill up, and the dogs can enjoy swimming again.
Our GSP Eva made it to 17 years old, She was the best pheasant and mountain quail dog we've ever had, she did everything, point, flush and retrieve. Great family dog too! Got Labs now I'm almost ready for another GSP here soon.
Thank you, I got a young dog from the pound and was told she was a collie cross. She didn't look very collie and had zero collie behaviours so I had her DNA tested, turns out she's a GSP/greyhound cross! She is basically a very fast GSP. This video has explained so many of her behaviours and is helping me help her. Thank you!
I've always had labs. When my dog, Hank, was 6 months old I took him to the lake, let him loose and he dove in (legs tucked!) and started swimming. Never had such a natural swimmer. I like taking him when I do desert lake camping which mostly involves jet propelled watercraft of the fast variety. A few times when he was younger I had to turn back and scoop him out of the water 50+ yards out because he decided to follow me. Never really an emergency. I would see him and stop and idle back and let him run out of steam a little before I grab him. Always too tired to try it again 😂
Just found this channel and couldn't agree any more. This is how I trained my dog and he is such a good labrador. When we first got him we were living in California and I'd take him on hikes and started socializing at 2 months. My vet thought I was crazy but fast forward a few years and he is now able to jump up rocks taller than me where others have to pick up their dog to get them over rocks knee high. Teach them basics and manner and let your dog be a dog.
I can basicall say the same about my Labbie, she is super fast and agile for a 40kg dog, and no she is not fat, just bigger structured otherwise has very little fat and she is super muscular. Im in the process of breeding her with a GSP right now ( i was in the process of breeding her with an Aussie actually but he had much trouble performing so thankfully the universe stepped in and sent that GSP to us again tonight and he handled his business like the true champ that he is, they were stuck for half an hour after, the universes way of teaching me what to do and how to do it properly i guess) and cannot wait to see the pups, she is gonna be a great mom since she is very gentle and perceptive and has a ton of empathy, she acts completely differently around seniors and children than she does around me and other owners of the dogs she usually plays with, she has a natural understanding that not everyone can handle playing with her 100% and she has a criteria that goes somewhat like this, 5% power when playing with children under 10 and senior women (my mom for example), 15 % when playing with children 10-13 and smaller dogs, 25% for senior men and medium or older dogs, then its about 50% with people she considers strong enough, and then there is the 75-100% depending on the dog she is playing with, and 110% when playing with me (once i was playing with her at a park and 2 guys came by to see if i need help to get the dog thats attacking me to leave me be, had quite a laugh before i explained to them she is my dog and thats just the way she is with me, we met after a few days, i was with a friend and his children , 4 yo girl and 6yo boy and the same 2 guys come by and saw her playing with the kids in a completely different way and couldnt believe their eyes, she basically lets them chase her and if they catch her she lets them do just about anything to her, she lets herself get caught alot since she loves the cuddles she gets when they catch her, while with me is just dog flying everywhere barking growling hanging off my arm trying to bite my nose or at least it looks like she is trying to bite, she is actually just trying to give kisses. Many times people will not understand the dogs behavior since they dont pay enough attention
I got mine for free at 8wks old. Inbred but healthy and smart. It was a learning curve, he's 3 now and just got him to quit killing my wife's chickens. His favorite game is jeepaway with his stuffed and rope toys. He's the best dog I've ever had. He listens well and stays in the yard. He only roamed when our old GSD would break out.
Wow! I am laughing out loud right now. What beautiful dogs. Our dog, Duggie, is a big, black guy. mostly GSP. Your BBD's look just like him! Your other breeds are so well groomed and beautiful.
Місяць тому
we have a big fenced yard and miles of hiking trails within a few minutes drive from our house. I have always wanted a GSP
Another great film Stonnie. We’ve just had two arrive at my training kennel in the U.K. A puppy of four months and the other a couple of years old. You are very kind to the inappropriate owners of this type of HPR . Your channel is one of the few l recommend to any clients of mine looking for useful content to watch themselves. Keep up the good work. How you enjoying Lockdown 😂🇬🇧
I LOVE both my GSPs. Awesome breed. Everything he says in this video is 100% true. They keep me active, and they love to play. They love going to the dog park and hang out in our fenced in back yard. My oldest, Nash, lived with us in a small one bedroom apartment in the city and he did fine, but I had to walk him EVERY day and take him to doggie day care a couple days a week so he had fulfillment in his life. I’ve Never had ANY health issues with either of them, with the exception of upset stomach or allergies every once in a while. They are Great with the kiddos. I find that as long as I keep them busy with a job (for ex. When it’s raining or snowing, we play hide and seek with their food). We work on our training every day. So smart and they catch on quick.
Please tell me more. I have already committed to a puppy. He is mixed with something else but we dont know what. I live in a two bed apartment but have lots of fields around. I only work 25 hours a week but the days I do work you think it will be fine spending sometimes a maximum of 8 hours in the flat four times a week? Every day I can manage at least an hour but much much more time 3 days a week in the large parks. Although now Im not sure about letting him off the leash in the parks.
Im glad your educating people , cause to many people get dogs , don’t read up on the breed then find out they aren’t what they though and end up dumping them at the animal shelter or give them away
Excellent training video, when I got into training as a kid, my godfather have me the best advice for training any dog. "A tired dog is a good dog." pretty sure what you had in your hand is what we call a buckeye(chestnut), the green part eventually comes off.
I had a large Munsterlander which was hit point retrieve. He was always in front by 50 metres, just exploring everything. And he loved to play ball. And he even brought it back! 🤣
Thanks for posting such great videos! Your method and understanding of the qualities of each dog breed keep everything in perspective as to expectations and limiting frustrations. I got a puppy 4 weeks ago. Mother is a Great Pyrenees. Father is a rolling stone. ;-) But, after much searching, it has become clear that the father was a German Shorthaired Pointer (blue). He's been training well, but now that I've watched your video, it will go even better. Again, many thanks!
Love GSPs! My husband grew up hunting and fishing and I love the personality and goofiness (and the good looks!). We have 2 kinds of ambulatory outings: walks around the neighborhood and tromps. Tromps are those fun crazy outings out in the field. How can you resist taking a dog like that out on an adventure? That’s for the great info. Those loyal, smart beasts are easy to train and great to have in the family. When my kids were toddlers roughhousing with Hannah and getting knocked down was part of the fun. Not all kids are used to that. Thanks for the great video!
Hi Stonnie, love your channel. Learning lots. Just started training our 9wk English Pointer y’day - huge energy, crazy time at school y’day... She loved their mini-obstacles too. Top job on vids. Thanks 🙏 🇦🇺
my pointer and i would hike 2.5 miles in the desert every day. she would run off and always come back then one day she didn't come back. I yelled for her, and ran back to the house to get my quad to go search for her. When I got to the house she was sitting by the front door. I guess she was done hiking that day.
Taking the gsp puppy out in the woods , just sums it up. They need that. Mines been doing since 8 weeks. They will always be out exploring, but they come back.
I have a Pointador and he is basically a gsp with a lab head and stomach. With his very obvious GSP personality, this video helps me alot. Thank you! Wish I loved closer so I could pay you to work on him!
Honestly, your video was excellent - so informative. I'm very active and outdoorsy and have wanted a GSP for a long time. Alas, I live in the city, in a condo, and seeing your gorgeous playground, realize it just wouldn't be fair to have a GSP in my current environment. Thanks for all the info! That said, if you know any cute 30-something single outdoorsman like you also city-living at the moment (but dreaming of living in open fields later on), please let me know!!!🤭🤗
Sir I found your video and have to say thank you for a very informative vid about these dogs. I really look forward to seeing more of your work. Subscribed. Salute!
I grew up with GSPer's, greeeeeat dogs. The swiss army knife canine. Can hunt upland from dawn to dusk. Natural pointers. When you have one who listens well, no need to even bother training him for hunting. He did great. Watching these dogs in the field is like watching a living artform. Great with kids. During family vacations my brother's kids, who didn't have a dog would just maul our dog all day. After dinner, he would sneak away from the family to my parents room and use his nose to shut the door to escape the kids. Never once even got surly with them jumping all over him, pulling his ears, making him do tricks, dragging him from my parent's room after he snuck off, etc. They are hyper, still great dogs. A few years ago my brother got a black European GSP. The build is a little different, bigger paws but tighter waist like a greyhound. She seems to be more calm, I'm not too sure if it is the breed variation or individual dog. Everything he says is spot on.
GSP is not a city dog for sure. Great work you do with the dogs .. on my second one now and i bought a tiny farm instead of a apartment just because of him. Greetings from Norway
Yes getting a gsp is a commitment to field time everyday.. here is an old video of 10 years ago, catching the last bit of daylight (at 4 pm) 10 degrees outside... letting the shorthairs run..
17:55 is such an important point, my friends dad had a young visla around 8 months, and just a couple months back they were out in their local park playing fetch offlead when he got spooked by a couple of people in costumes. Unfortunately within seconds he ended up out in the road with cars going 40mph and he did not survive the injuries sustained.
@@StonnieDennis Hi Stonnie, I wish I could say "we own Cheetahs", but we don't. Namibia is the "Cheetah Capital" of Africa. They roam free on all our farms. Often even enter our towns / suburbs. Of course they also roam in Kenya, Tanzania, Botswana, South Africa.....but Namibia has the largest Cheetah population. We have a awesome Cheetah Concervation Fund (CCF), just outside Otjiwarongo, run by Dr Laurie Marker, an American born in Detroit, Michigan. Because cheetahs are predators, they are so often killed by livestock farmers. CCF educates farmers, to rather catch and release the Cheetahs elsewhere, where there is no livestock. They also take in wounded, and caught Cheetahs. Lots of tourists visit CCF. Then we also have the N/a'ankusê Wildlife Sanctuary, located approximately 42km from the capital Windhoek, where we live. They take in wounded and orphaned wildlife as well. Lots of tame Cheetahs there too. Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie have ties here...they help them a lot with donations, and daughter Shiloh adopted a cheetah cub there too. It is called Shiloh. They often come to Naankuse to visit. I can however still email you photos and Namibia info, if you like.
This is a great video! the teacher is very informative, patient and experienced. I'm adopting a shorthair that's about a year and half old on Sunday (3-19-2023) and this video is going to be my guide on training. I cnat wait. Anyways, well done on this and all your videos Keep up the good work!! Much love from Sacramento, ca!
I am not even looking for a new dog/training. I have a GSD/mal/possible akita mix, she is a service dog and 8yo. I am stuck in my house due to the "virus lockdown". This just reminds me of my childhood, in MI allowed to roam the swamps and woodlands by myself as long as I showed back up for dinner. (early 90s, no phones) Plus, I value the training advice, as life is a journey and there is always something new to teach the dogs. 👍

They’re supposed to roam pretty far
I got a GSP when i turned 16, and had him for a solid 16 years. Absolutely amazing and loving dog, but BOY was I not ready for that level of energy! Most hyperactive dog I've ever seen. Once I realized I had to exercise him for hours and hours every day, and throw a ball until my arm fell off, we started having an amazing life together. He was my hiking and backpacking companion too, and Absolutely loved it.

Beautiful story...You never wanted to get another one?
5:38 you know I appreciate that stonnie, cause a lesser man would have edited that out. Thanks for keeping it real
Mike Wallace welcome to my world! You just boosted up my confidence! I’m a dog trainer with MS. It ain’t the trip or fall it’s how fast you pop back up and how much you can laugh about it! 😎
Stoney is the real deal!!!
Lesser man is a little bit harsh.
Real-life love it

My dog Sammy died at 18 about a month ago. Probably one of the best pointing german shorthairs I’ve ever hunted behind. Solid animal
I’m so sorry...
Hey how do they do with protection . Can they hunt with other dogs on baors
Your dog overviews are very interesting. I'd like to see more of them. It is especially helpful to me to hear distinctions between obstinate behavior of individual dogs versus natural behaviors of different dog breeds.
Yeah, lot's of people misinterpret dog behavior....
The first few moments of this video had me captivated. The demeanor and energy of this guy is just captivating
Girls are usually better kennel hands than boys...
@@StonnieDennis what food do you feed them the gsp
Tommy bouncing around at 44:00 is so precious. Thank you for posting this longer format, it's super helpful to see a GSP in a real environment, see their behaviour, personality, etc. Great video!
Such a gentleman, that trip up didnt even phase you .you didn't even tell the other dogs to stop or go lay down .love your calmness .Dont be embarrassed you handled that with elagance and kindness and calmness
Old fella or not...you're the best dog trainer I've ever watched. Keep it going!
My gsp recently passed away at age 13. She was the best dog ever
Sorry to hear about your pup! I just lost our GSP as well! She was going on 6!
Sorry for your losses
I’m right there with you. They are such great dogs.
She's having a blast!
Oooh boy can you please send this to every southern newlywed couple thinking about getting a puppy as a dry run before having a baby?
Andrew Thomason LOL...
Now your trying to give the secret away. I've gotten several from newlyweds & chicken people for nothing. Damn dog keeps chewing up the house & killing my chickens just come get it!
This guy can talk! First time I ever welcomed a commercial!
I love seeing the different breeds and learning about their tendencies.
best comment on here.
Hi from Germany! Best Video I could find. ADHD with 4 legs. Best Dog, best mantrailer I ever had. Thanks
This is the video I have been searching for!
I'm glad you like it!
Thank you for being such an honest and direct trainer. I just put my 14 yo GSP to rest and am thinking about getting another even though I'll be 60 next year. I miss her dearly and never had a better exercise and home campanion.
We have 2, brothers. Best dogs ever! Energetic, playful, talkative, loving just all around best dog ever!!
Dang 17 years? That's great. Thanks for watching!
What did you feed him wow 17
I wish I were as understanding, thoughtful, and proficient a parent as Stonnie is a dog trainer.
That’s probably the best statement.
I fostered a senior GSP for a year and a half. I agree with everything you say about this breed. Fortunately, he's now living with GSP experts now.
Avispex j
Such a fantastic fall recovery by the great one and only Stoney Dennis incredible proprioception Stoney your training has really payed off😂😂😂
I have a few years of adventuring left!!!
Love them! Have a GSP and a Weimaraner. Few things are better than going on a hike with two pointers and watching them explore. Absolutely love them!
multiple solid points. from someone who has a 2year old male.
I just got my second GSP ...love these dogs. High energy outdoors and coach potatoes indoors.
Really? I have lots of parks near me and plan to exercise it a lot. But worried about the times I have to leave it home. You think they can be lazy at home and handle a few hours a day , even alone?
We had a GSP and she was so well trained. Always ready to listen and insanely focused. She needed a lot of room to roam, though.
First hedge Apple I have seen since I was a kid. Brings back good memories, laugh😃out😃loud.
What a beautiful place!!
My uncles dog Cleo would keep running in the field and didn't know when to stop - my uncle had to check her pads because she would keep going past what was good for her.
.. GPS lol
I have a garmin
A tired and trained GSP makes the best family dog. Had my first for 13 years and now have now have another one.
I actually watched the entire video. Very helpful
Insane how spot on this is. I’ve had mine for about a month or two and I immediately noticed all those same traits. Perfectly sums up the breed
Thank you for watching!
The algorithm has chosen you.
You’re so awesome to Tommy! He really loves you! Great videos
Love them
Outstanding work George, Eli and "ninja" Stonnie. Very entertaining!
Thank you!
😂
I had a GSP, lab and malamute mix. Best dog ever. Very gentle, mild mannered, smart, and loving.
Namibia? Are you really serious?
@@StonnieDennis Dead serious :-) When you ever visit Africa, you have to come and visit us!
Thank you!
Wow, sounds like a handful!!!
Thank’s for a great, long video! Lots of useful content! I always get angry when my dogs don’t come when called, perhaps that’s why they don’t come...
17.25 min in when the lab puppies start splashing in the water - that was somethin out of a children's movie -haha! Made my day entirely. lol
I have a 2 year old (had him since 5 weeks old) I will never buy another dog. They are literally the best dogs.
Let's not get carried away; Black Labs are the best but these guys are pretty good...lol...
@@StonnieDennis now who is getting carried away black labs. Pppffftt
STONNIE! Love your videos. You’re always so real! Big love from the UK!
Doth my eyes deceive me? A great father role model 😱☺ I really enjoyed your video and shared knowledge and wisdom.
Thank you!
Your other breeds are so well groomed and beautiful.
we have a big fenced yard and miles of hiking trails within a few minutes drive from our house.
I have always wanted a GSP
You can’t help but to love them. They all have different things about them that makes them distracted.
Im glad your educating people , cause to many people get dogs , don’t read up on the breed then find out they aren’t what they though and end up dumping them at the animal shelter or give them away
my uncle has a gsp named luke. He's a drooling, jumping, loving boy! Their amazing!!! I recoment lots of walks, food, water, and exersize!
Thank you sooo much for your tips for my GSP!
Thanks 🙏 🇦🇺
Thanks for watching!
They’re great dogs so friendly,thanks
I’m in love with the Ridgeback.
Old time Hockey wonder what cross it is cause of the white dalmatian-like feet, adorable.
Ridgebacks are amazing dogs. Definitely not a breed for everyone, though.
my pointer and i would hike 2.5 miles in the desert every day. she would run off and always come back then one day she didn't come back.
Love this guy, class act...
Enjoying your videos so much!! Thanks for the content :)
Thank you for watching!
I have a Pointador and he is basically a gsp with a lab head and stomach. With his very obvious GSP personality, this video helps me alot. Thank you!
Wish I loved closer so I could pay you to work on him!
that was a full movie! we loved it!
Die tollsten Hunde der Welt!Wir haben bereits den 6ten.
...Strangely, I'm attracted to your shorts-socks-vest-beard look😁 great video too!
I’m flattered...
That said, if you know any cute 30-something single outdoorsman like you also city-living at the moment (but dreaming of living in open fields later on), please let me know!!!🤭🤗
I had to put my GSP down at 14yo. She developed a problem with her pancreas, and stopped eating. Great hunting dog.
Love, at one point, when one of the other dogs is in Tommy's way (on the low challenge course)...so he just hops over it! No biggie!!
I have a few GSP and they all jump over my lab everyday like it’s part of the program ! Lol.
Sir I found your video and have to say thank you for a very informative vid about these dogs. I really look forward to seeing more of your work. Subscribed. Salute!
Me and my family have had this same German short haired pointer for 6 years now and I never realized this dog was a sport dog until very recently lol
Great information, thank you Mr.Stonie
Thank you for watching!
A Really good show guys 🏴
Yes getting a gsp is a commitment to field time everyday.. here is an old video of 10 years ago, catching the last bit of daylight (at 4 pm) 10 degrees outside... letting the shorthairs run..
17:55 is such an important point, my friends dad had a young visla around 8 months, and just a couple months back they were out in their local park playing fetch offlead when he got spooked by a couple of people in costumes. Unfortunately within seconds he ended up out in the road with cars going 40mph and he did not survive the injuries sustained.
Thank you!! Good Job Tommy!!
When I look at my GSP, she reminds me a bit of our Cheetahs :-)
If you really have Cheetahs, I would love some photos. You should email them to me!
Great video, educational as well as entertaining, everyone thinking of getting an active working dog should watch this , much appreciated 🙏.
Thank you!
(early 90s, no phones)
Plus, I value the training advice, as life is a journey and there is always something new to teach the dogs.
👍
Tripping over a dog... PRICELESS!!!
