  • Noam Chomsky explains how public opinion and political policy differ and why often undecided voters vote for policies that are opposite public opinion. This was an excerpt from a talk sponsored by the Center for Popular Economics in Amherst, MA on Sept 27, 2012 called "Who Owns the World? Resistance and the Way Forward." More excerpts to come.

Well, but it's utterly illogical to assume that some people will turn the tide and things will change. It's better to swept away in the tide than fight against it and leave a battered corpse. I've learned that in reasonably short life. I've resigned myself to it because I know I'm just one man. One man cannot change anything, they can only change themselves.

No. Mitt Romney has great hair. Only thing that's great about him. I mean, Romney's policies would be antithetical to what the American people want. As Chomsky points out.
Policies -- like anti inflation policies -- are designed to satisfy a small sector of the population. Namely bankers.

I must disagree with you (about the hair), Mitt Romney has a great toupee, Noam Chomsky has great hair. I agree with you about everything else though.

It does take time. I have said that repeatedly, but true change means letting go of the past and we can't let go with men and women like Chomsky using it to nip at our heels.

Economic policies do not only equate to the rich paying higher taxes, there are about 30 other factors, including the many ways tax money is spent/wasted and how rich people are able to avoid being taxed...I'm not saying Romney was the right guy, but he is a RINO leftist, he just isn't as far left as Obama. The real problem is that we only get two choices...or only hear about two choices in the MSM.

you cannot change people but you can inspire some. you can only change yourself but that can only work with tending your influences. not everyone chooses to live by the sea. chomsky is a tide in himself, however small he s not likely to feel battered.

What I find the most intriguing about men and women like Mr. Chomsky is the fact that they speak up and speak out. I ask, why bother? It's not going to do any good. Just lay down and accept things for how they are.

I don't understand why certain people laugh... I guess there is a hint of humor but it is mostly just tragic. The laughing makes me cringe a little bit. I highly doubt that was the response Noam actually wanted.

This is all nice, but it doesn't address the real problem in America. Yearly deficits over a trillion dollars, and near 17 trillion in debt. Proletariats and Bourgeois both will suffer because of this debt. You can continue to focus on the unimportant issues, or you can focus on the solution.

Sorry to say, but you don't. Look at the world, I see no changes from speaking out.
