Exercise Each Day As If Your Life Depends On It!

  • This is my daily exercise routine; my run to work is my run to keep my health!
I live 15 miles from my office in Midtown New York City. Each day I get to work by foot - I run to work! Exercise is one of the most important parts of my life, if I don't exercise daily I just don't feel good.
Having a tangible reason and benefit to running to work takes the mental pressure out of my mind on whether I will make time for exercise or not each day. I have to get to work, so I have to run, it's simple, it's routine, it's a better life and lifestyle.
When I'm training for ultra marathons I run home too! Running 'double' workouts is another secret to my success in staying injury free, being accomplished in the ultra distance races, and keeping mental burnout at bay.
If you can work your exercise into your daily routine so it has a tangible use and benefit then you'll have developed an important lifestyle habit that will improve all other areas of your life.
No excuses! You can commute to work too! Instal a shower at your office. Take a sponge bath in the bathroom. Shower and change at a local gym. Run home from work at the end of the day and shower at home, do it, you can make it happen!
"Exercise each day as if your life depends on it" - Dr. Douglas Graham

Never ran more in my life than when I stayed with Mike in NYC.
If you want to be a better runner, hang around better runners.
    Goes for anything in life.

Victoria talks about you in her videos. She has great things to say about you. She mentioned that you were like a brother to her and even if you act crazy, she still accepts you. She is so full of wisdom and I find that sexy as hell. Mike is a lucky guy! I hope he knows what he has. They do make a great team though. Victoria runs more because of Mike and she also changed him for the better by introducing him to a clean diet. I hope you guys all become a team again! The force would be way more effective to the world!

I started running "regularly" about 4 months back and though I am nowhere close to your distance but love the dedication. I try to cover almost 7-8 miles a day first thing in the morning I wake up. Running has made me not only lose weight it has made me eat healthy, be energetic through out the day and has given me a self belief. I no longer use the word impossible instead my mantra is lets try to do it, lets see where we end up.
I absolutely believe that running should not be a chore rather it should be a routine like eating and sleeping. The sooner you have that mindset the more enjoying running becomes.

This rocks. I am 12 miles from my work. I have run it about 5 times. However, it is a major production when I do. I aspire to be able to do it every week or twice a week---it is hard for me to image being able to do this everyday---I am usually walking by the end of my "run" to work.
However, this is still a noble, efficient, and inspiring thing you are doing.

I first saw this video a little more than a year ago, at the end of my first full year of run-commuting. I showed it to my wife who replied: "why don't you film you own run-commute?".
So, I filmed my daily run-commute with a GoPro. The weather of Montreal provided the rest. 12 months later, 5300 km further and 430 runs stronger, enjoy some serious canadian meteorological events from the comfort of... wherever you may be: Beastie Runs: vimeo.com/87578324 (length: 3:22)

I don't run to work, but I cycle to and from work each day for 20 miles total, and then go back out and ride another 30 miles in the mid day. I can't run anymore because of knee damage, but I can still compete in cycling and there's nothing better for focusing the mind then a really good fast heart pumping ride to work, especially the hill I have to climb to get to work. Plus I'm lucky that I get to take my bike into work with me and store it in a safe locked up place. This guy in the video is really hardcore, good luck to him and his efforts to spread the word of healthy living.

The most dangerous thing in the city is car doors. Yeah, Agreed! I used to ride my road bike from Astoria Queens down into Manhattan to work every day on W33rd. I can't tell you the number of bikers I saw getting clipped by car doors over those couple years. Horrifying! Anyway, you're in a place where car doors are not so much of a problem. Looks like he is running from an area NW of Manhattan into Manhattan. There are gyms all over the city. You could get a membership deal somewhere and use their showers. Maybe companies and health care plans will subsidize memberships. And the membership will pay for itself with the money you are saving on train/subway fare and parking fees. Biking is another option if impact/time/showering are the concerns.
