  • This is a review of the Kruger Gate Hotel, former Protea Hotel Kruger Gate in South Africa. We cover the room, the activities, the area, and pros and cons for staying at this hotel.
We received the email, "Effective August 31st, 2022 the hotel will no longer be associated with Marriott International but will continue normal operation and your reservation will be honored." We were shocked, but the stay was awesome!
We did safari every year and we used to stay at luxury lodges, so this was an experiment for an affordable safari by ourselves. It was great!
I will post the reviews of each hotel/resort as much as possible. I hope you enjoy the videos for your information to decide to or not to stay there.
    Thank you,
    Yuka M

Great comprehensive review. Loved that I could see the prices of food / spa / safari - this helped me total up a typical spend vs a luxury all inclusive

There is another parking option besides the large lot in my video. If your room is far from the entrance, please inquire about alternative parking. We parked right in front of our room during our stay.
Just a heads-up: the video is from 2022, so some details may have changed.
Have a nice stay! Thanks again for watching my video.😊😊😊

Hi! Thanks for the content! I am planning to stay at Kruger Gate hotel on November for my honeymoon! Can you please explain how the safari tours work?

    • @yuka.m
      @yuka.m  Місяць тому

      Congratulations!! You will have fun.
There are 3 types of safari tours you can choose.
      1. Self drive
We did self drive safari, basically. We rent a car at Skukuza Airport (You should book in advance) and drive to the hotel. If you arrive at the airport directly like me, you need to pay a park fee or show the wildcard if you have one on arrival. It's important to note that Kruger Gate Hotel isn't located inside Kruger National Park, so you need to buy an entrance ticket or show your wildcard with ID every time you enter Kruger. When we were there, we needed to park a car and go into the office to get real entrance tickets even though we had wildcards. It was a little inconvenient, and I hope Kruger Park made a digital entrance system so that you don't have to get out of the car.
      2. Book a safari tour at the hotel
You may receive an email regarding the safari tours they offer. Book with them. You can just show up at the hotel lobby area on time. Usually, you will have other passengers in the same vehicle. It's like a group safari tour. We did it a few times as it's convenient, and they offer a night safari. Self drive is prohibited at night, so it's a good option.
      3. 3rd party safari
You hire someone or a company to offer safaris at Kruger. They can pick you up at the hotel.
I hope I have answered your question. Let me know if you have another question. (It was almost 2 years ago, so my answer might be out of date, though.)

@@yuka.m thanks a lot for the response and the wishes! :)
We are only staying for 3 nights (two full days when we will make the tours). Do you believe it is enough to see everything at the safaris?

If you take a tour, I believe you would see major animals more than we, self-drive tourists without any idea where to go, do. Tour guides usually communicate with other guides about where they spot specific animals, or experienced guides know the territories of major animals, so you can count on guides/drivers.
At least I know they will say it's not guaranteed to see the animals..., but there are lots of animals in Kruger. I wish I lived nearby...😭
      Enjoy!!😆😆

    Ohayo Yuka!
Thank you for wonderful review. I noticed you stayed for 30 nights! Did they give you a long stay discount?
We will be staying there this November 🎉

Ohayo gozaimasu!!!! (Thank you for recognizing me as a Japanese!!) I wish I could join you this November.
Actually, we booked with Bonvoy points for 30 nights (5night*6) at that time, so there weren't long stay discounts for points booking.←*The hotel was Protea Marriott when we booked...
