Long story short, I wanted a Hotshot back in the day, but was gifted a Hirobo Bearcat for Christmas. What happened? The seller told my parents that the Hotshot was outdated and the Hirobo was their newest kit! So I've saved all my pocket money and bought myself a Boomerang, which was my first RC car with which I've spent many hours of joy. I've modified it with a Bigwig front suspension system, ballbearings, Tuning motor and a Winger body! Unfortunately I've missed the first rere, but bought a vintage one in around 2017 and a rere when it came back in the same year. Restored the vintage one and built a Winger with my rere. Thanks to your channel I learnt about the repro body and decals. Thanks again for all your efforts and help to let us rebuild our RC dreamcars.😃😁🤗
Boomerang was my first Tamiya kit. A hopped it right up with 8.4 volt battery, Yokomo esprit motor, the super shot dual shock front end and ball bearings which cost a fortune in the 80’s. It flew but ran for under 5 minutes on a charge! Absolutely loved it.
The Boomerang was my 1st 4x4 buggy I used for competitive racing in the 80’s. You’re right it kicked off a crazy time in RC buggy racing. It seemed like new kits, motors, batteries & upgrades were coming every month. Making hard to be competitive because those with deep pockets had all the new stuff every week. As I remember the demand for these products also started to push prices up & up. Racing motors like the technigold we’re going for more than the cost of a whole kit. Crazy dayz 🤪
I had a Boomerang when I was 12 years old or so. Took me two years of saving until I had enough money to buy the kit with all other required equipment. The box art on those Tamiya kits is just magical.
Boomerang was my first 4wd RC car. I picked up my rere kit last week and can’t wait to get started on it. I’ll probably paint mine in yellow just the way my original one was back in 1986. 🇦🇺
The Boomerang was definitely iconic and one of the ones I most remember in hobby shops. Any 4WD kits were out of my price range back then so I ended up getting a Blackfoot. No regrets but I just loved the look of the Boomerang and it's always stuck with me. But it won't be long now before this kit is sitting on my desk :)
I remember swapping my frog and fox for my boomerang back in the day just so i could race with my friends bin four wheel drive class hear in Australia. I finally got around to getting another one just recently and it bought back a heap of grate memories. Most certainly will be getting one when they eventually turn up in Australia. Love the content mate, keep it up.
Yes! Always wanted the boomerang back in 08, but I purchased the bigwig when that came out in 2017! lol ! Now that Tamiya has finally re released The boomerang again , I definitely have to opt for one! Cause it just has a gorgeous body shell. But the one I’m really hanging for is the hotshot2. original black version! Also the sabre is another one I love to have in the collection. Come on Tamiya make us collectors proud!!! 👍
My very first Tamiya kit in the 1980's was the Fox. My second kit was the Boomerang. I pre ordered both again for my 50th birthday back in March. I have the Fox and am waiting for the Boomerang to show up. Can't wait!! Looking forwards to your build.
Boomerang is one of my all time favourite cars. My 2nd rc car after the frog. It was a special car, so new that time its a completely unknown car for me bought by mom while she holidaying in Singapore 1987. A love at first sight when i saw it back then.
❤ boomerang, my 1st rc build when i was 11 , sold all my star wars figures to fund it ! Great times , picked up the rere in 2008 after yrs being a shelf queen i now run it once a month on an astro track , no regrets i love taking it for a spin and it always gets people's attention and chatting ❤👍
Those were Happy Days, I went from The Frog to the Boomerang, I ballraced it , raced it, and loved it. So happy to see this re, and mine will arrive next week. Woohooo! Thanks Glenn from this Aussie in China!
The boomerang was regarded by many as the car to have on the racetrack if running Tamiya. So many boomerang fans out there. The Super Sabre build was one of my favorites to date.
I have to admit, I didn't see this buggy around in 86. Most of what I saw were the Tamiya Hornet, Grasshopper, Hotshot and a few others of that era and later the Wild One, Fox and MB. Much later on, in recent years in fact, I bought a non runner OG Boomerang and gave it a complete resto. It came with one of Tamiya's later hot motors, in fact it still has it. It goes well. Just a case of something not on my radar, to all of a sudden; I wouldn't mind on of those, to buying the one I have. Fun vid as always Glenn.
An absolute classic! The boomerang and Hotshot 2 was my choice to make buying my first RC deal from beatties back in 2017. I'll think I'll order an other one. I regret selling the last one about 4 years ago
Classic Glen.. simple as that!!! It’s of our time.. never had brand new one back then.. it was a bit out of my paper round wage structure🤣🤣.. I’ve already warned the wife in advance that finally I will have a new one out of the box!!!!!!
You have to try Boomerang or Thundershot or any of the family tree on the snow. Hard packed snow by real cars is the best to run on! In the 90s I test drove a Striker with Technigold in it on the snow and I loved every second of it. For me it was to hold the slides the longes the most fun part. Back then the main road down by my mates house was not that busy, so it was perfect to drive on! I hope there will be some hard packed snow this winter so I can test some of my cars. I obvious recomend to spray WD40 or something on metal parts afterwards to prevent them from rusting. Love from Norway.
I remember when The Boomerang came out a friend of mine had one I have always wanted one myself and I do own 2 myself now one painted white and the other is yellow 👍🏻👍🏻
Cheers, Glenn! I have been away for some time, but it's great to be back viewing your videos. I agree with the Boomerang being one of the iconic kits. Back in the late '80s, I remember wanting it badly, but it never happened. However, a couple of years ago, I found a 2008 re-re Boomerang brand new in the sealed box. I have yet to build it, but I plan on it. It currently sits next to a few other kits to build that I had always wanted: The BigWig, Hotshot, and Supershot. So excited to have these after all these years. Looking forward to the build video. Happy RC-ing!
Got mine Glenn! Couldn't wait for this one. Box art for mine too, although I do have some ideas for an alternative look. Looking forward to the Super Sabre! ATB Darren 👍
I'm half way through my re-re boomer build, I'll be running a 5400kv brushless system in mine. The boomerang is a very nice looking buggy imo, they gave it that name because as you look at the body from above it has a boomerang shape to it. It's also the best performer out of the "shot" series as it's lighter than the hotshot and supershot, has the best rear suspension and does not suffer from the terrible bump steer👍
The Boomerang will always be special to me personally too! I raced one with a Parma Eagle bodyshell back in the day and had the twin front shocks on it too! I did ok too on the track if l don't mine saying so! I think you have probably seen the replica l did recently on FB? Very special buggy indeed. Looking forward to the next video Glenn! Going to be a nostalgic one!
If the new Super Sabre is coming out in 2014 you might need a time machine mate🤣🤣 Anyway, the Boomerang was my first proper RC kit in early November 1987, cost me £165 for the complete deal including radio gear etc. I loved the build, my mate got a Super Sabre and my older brother got a Grasshopper, and I eventually ended up with all of them. Sadly I had to sell them many years ago to make ends meet, and I've regretted it ever since. I can't wait to see it built, but please run it🤘
This is the RC car I had. Probably late 80’s. Still got it in bits in a box with lots of cracked parts (wishbones etc). Maybe I can get it back on the road 🤔
Looking forward to your build :) I just finished my boomerang re re last week , as I’d never built one from a kit. Super stoked about the super sabre as well as I always preferred it out if the two. Cheers Glenn ;)
Hi Glen not sure if you have seen my message on another video but I found a very rare Tamiya car I never knew anything about a Skoda XB PRO not sure what number it was released on or anything just Skoda had them made and released at same time as the Colin Mcrea Skoda rally car was as well.
I just love the Tamiya 4x4 cars, I really need to get one and realistically can only warrant buying one so I am absolutely going mental trying to decide. I think I prefer the Thunder shot but love the Boomerang and never liked the Sabre until I think it was Keith at RC Icons built one and it looked amazing. For me tho I just can't get past the iconic Hotshot, it may not be the best or the best looking but it's a true icon, the first of its kind so I guess I will buy that one.
So spookie…. Last time I was sat in my man cave building a car was The Frog 🐸- you did that great video with the story attached. Today I’m sat in my man cave building a Boomerang 🪃 and here’s a video 😂 Great stuff!!! I share your happiness as I’m having an absolute hoot building this car! Thanks mate - great channel as always 👌
I do like the look of the boomerang, its a kit i would love to have but kyosho seem to have soaked up all my spare pennys with 2 must have (for me) kits 😎
Sorry, l haven't had a chance to watch your vid's is ssoooo long, bloody life 😂 Grate to see you're finally wearing glasses. You can officially consider yourself a legend old dude of MASSIVE Tamiya knowledge. 🤣🤣 yes I'm possibly a tad older. HELL yer the Boomerang is a true Tamiya legend. Has a big pull for myself being Aussie & having Tamiya name a vehicle after a famous Aboriginal weapon. I still have my original Boomerang & a 1st re re. Plans to put 3 of this re re on the shelf boxed. ❤ your stuff. 3 weeks to go & I have a whole bloody month off. Yep, I'm looking forward to catching up on ya vids & what is going on in the rc world.
Boomerang was my first rc. I asked for a hotshot like my mates. But I got the boomerang. Looking back it was probably a better car. Bit lighter. Better shocks. Better speed controller from memory. Even if I burned that bad boy out a few times. In saying that I’m not sure I could keep a speed controller in any of my cars for long. Good times
Hello, what is the difference from the 2008 model to the 2023 model. for me the dream car that will hopefully be re-released again is the madcap🥰. regards
I love it now but never grooved me as a kid! My first car was as you know a Grasshopper and then was a metallic dark green Hotshot 2 although was tempted with a Thundershot but went for the Hotshot 2 but sadly sold it at a car boot sale in Altrincham circa 2008 in perfect almost new condition with a Technigold motor and Period correct Futaba radio gear😢 ……all for if I remember correctly £15. I wonder if it’s still out there and the person who bought it still has it and watches the channel 🤔
Will it even have bearings? I swear that they will go out of business if they don't update their kits past the 70s-80s standards. They can't live on boomer nostalgia forever.

I like the bigwig, how does it perform?
Boomerang was my first 4x4 rc back in 87 😃 I remember it having the metal rod for the antenna to wrap around. Got a re re sitting on the shelf now.

Yep agree Keith the Boomer was the top dog for tamiya for a time!
I certainly did ok with mine back in the day!

I used to clean clocks and boomerangs with my technigold hot shot 2...

Looking forward to your build :) I just finished my boomerang re re last week , as I’d never built one from a kit. Super stoked about the super sabre as well as I always preferred it out if the two. Cheers Glenn ;)
Hi Glenn tamiya is releasing the super saber as I got mine ordered just finished building the boomerang
Got one of these 2023 Boomerang kits myself. Just wondering if anyone can recommend an upgraded motor, as I heard the original is a bit slow.
As a big fan of the boomerang it was my first rc had the original and i say it's about time that you had one in the collection 😎👌👊🔥🔥🔥

Hobbywing esc included?
I will have to say idk much about the Boomerang so it’ll be a great video series Glen. Maybe do a bunch of upgrades on one. Great video Glen.

They're nice but I prefer the look of the Super Sabre.
one of my hopefuls from 86. asked grandma to buy it for me, but it was $178! a little to pricey for her, so i got a falcon instead.
I wonder if he reads any of these comments great channel good content. You think hill build anything else for money. Let me know mate cheers
It was my first RC car last time I saw it it had a blue and white Winger body with blue and white Wildone rear wheels front and rear.😢
Where can i get one
You have done a boomerang restoration before on your channel of an original.I prefer the super sabre.
2014 or 2024 lol
Will it even have bearings? I swear that they will go out of business if they don't update their kits past the 70s-80s standards. They can't live on boomer nostalgia forever.
As long as people keep buying them, they won't change.
