    If the piece is not made of particle board, hosing with water is perfectly fine. Swelling becomes a problem when a piece of furniture is made of particle board because the particle board acts like a sponge absorbing the moisture and therefore swells up. As long as the substrate is solid wood or plywood you’ll be fine hosing down once.

      @@kathyandthedogs626 I did not use a topcoat and don’t feel that it’s necessary for this particular piece. However, fusion does make some amazing topcoats. I would do a test spot though just to make sure the colour doesn’t turn at all. They also make one that is a Matt finish which I think would be ideal for this look

    I HIGHLY RECOMMEND NOT "hosing it off" with water. It swells the wood! 👎👎👎👎👎👎
    FUTURE FURNITURE FLIPPERS: Wipe the wood down while dry, or use something to blow off the dust from sanding. DON'T WASH THE FURNITURE DOWN then allow to dry!!

    • @daniellenicholsonliving3035
      @daniellenicholsonliving3035  2 місяці тому

      @@aimk5271 no it was perfectly fine. You can’t just wipe when you use oven cleaner. It was very hot outside and it dried as fast as I hosed it off and I also lightly sanded it after so there’s absolutely no swelling cabinet turned out amazing! Remember, all wood is very wet and saturated at some point. It does come from outside:)

      @@daniellenicholsonliving3035 39 seconds into the video you mentioned hosing it off after sanding. That's specifically what I was talking about.

    • @aimk5271
      @aimk5271 2 місяці тому

      And after oven cleaner, to most, scraping this off then using mineral spirits would be much better than water. Watering the wood takes so much longer to dry off with the possibility of the wood swelling. When using mineral spirits, it evaporates quicker to be able to then wipe the product of whatever you're using, in this case, oven cleaner.

    • @daniellenicholsonliving3035
      @daniellenicholsonliving3035  2 місяці тому

      @@aimk5271 I mentioned that I sanded it first with an 80 grit to remove the shellac, then the oven cleaner, hosed it off and then I mention how important is to let it dry thoroughly, which on a hot day was pretty quick and then sanded it twice, went over it with a 120 grit and lastly to make sure it was nice and smooth I used 180 grit.
      I’m not here to dispute that there’s more than one way to do things. In my case, this worked out amazing . I would not suggest hosing it off and leaving it inside for days at a time with water sitting on it. But I think I communicate pretty thoroughly in the video how important the drying processes is. Many people have used water if you look at other videos. I should also mention doing it outside on a hot sunny day not only helps to dry it, but does also help to bleach the wood for the overall look I was trying to achieve.

      @@aimk5271 in my opinion, I don’t think that using mineral spirits is enough, you want to wash the oven cleaner off. I would love to see a piece that you’ve done with this process please share. 😊
