I remember the day after Dwayne passed. It was my second day using the "internet", actually America Online, and the first thing I did after signing up was look for a Skinny Puppy group. The day before, everyone was talking about The Process and what was going on with Ogre and cEvin & Dwayne, the next day, Dwayne was gone. I'd seen SP maybe 6 or 7 times by that point and Dwayne was the musical soul of their live show. cEvin made everything so powerful playing drums. Dwayne is sorely missed. R.I.P.

Personally I think the “Dwayne era” of Skinny Puppy was hands down the best. Rabies, Vivisect, Too Dark Park. Dwayne was the sample master!

This is why I prefer the long edit of the song. This beautiful part gets its moment in the sun.

I once saw two industrial DJs get in a fight over this at a goth club. One guy was mad he was just letting it play out and tried to come in with another song. Dude just reached over and smacked down the fader for that CDJ. Then the black lace and foundation started to fly. Lesson, don't get too geeked up at the club.

This, for me, has always been the most sad Skinny Puppy song....Easily one of their greatest

Thank you! The most fascinating part of skinny puppy, for me, always were the strings and how they blend with the complex rhythmic soundscapes creating vacuous pit of contrasting emotions. It's almost like being torn in-between the anger and grief. An undescribable feeling of loss, a frustrating helplessness which has no resolution and an anger which you can't direct towards anything.

Thanks for making this. I remember listening to Worlock in a car for the first time, and at first, it was just like OK, we're listening to some industrial stuff. Then the chorus (or whatever it is) comes in, and it's actually one of the most beautiful things I've ever heard, what with the synth stuff and then the vocoder line on top. Very brilliant stuff.

Without the percussion, Ogre's voice and the gadgetry over, this song sounds very very sad, almost funereal. It's really very beautiful in all of its sadness.

    Too late for me

Really fascinating look at the chords, with the tension and release between notes, i never consciously realized it but it explains why it's so sad. Was overjoyed when they played it live during the last tour. Here in Edmonton they also mentioned that Candle (their last song of the evening) was on the last album they made with Dwayne, and that they all missed him very much. 😭
Also, just beautiful string tones on your mini-keyboard. I wonder if there's any other stripped down synth lines or melodies from their songs you could isolate and/or look at? (Thinking tracks like Amnesia, Killing Game, Nature's Revenge, Harsh Stone White, Rivers, Cult; all the sad classics). 😢

Seen them first time in 1988 during the European leg of Ain't it Dead? With Dwayne the music developed, in particular CF&M (probably my fav album) his contribution is noticealbe compared to previous albums, though he already worked on MIND:TPI.

Such an awesome breakdown of this! Both rats of LRW are huge SP fans, they are certainly our biggest musical influence and this may be my favorite song by them as well. I had "Rabies" on cassette as a little kid!! Do you know what is going on with the basslines in songs like Addiction and Inquisition?? Pro-1 and Delay pedal I am assuming? I would love to put together some sort of cover/homage for my channel, but it's definitely not easy an easy task. lol
If you know anything about how they made those basslines (notes used in the seq/arp/any MIDI info) or if you could point me in the right direction it would be very much appreciated! 😳 🐀
