aphex twin's house in the 90's: 36 clissold crescent
i was visiting london today and decided to drag the family very far away from our plans to stop and see the house at 36 clissold crescent. i also walked passed a stencil of rich at the beginning. he no longer lives there but it's an important destination to some of us geeks.
as someone who has had my life so profoundly changed by richard's music (literally have slept to "rhubarb" on repeat nearly every night since I was 16 back in 1995 and I'm now 45 years old), i wanted to see where so much of his music in the early/mid90s came from on a recent trip to london. i was lucky to meet him in 96 or so and ask him a million questions about doing snare rolls on a dr-660 ("you can do it with that machine" he said) and later i got some emails from him as he had liked some music that i had made at the time. (i printed them out like a proud parent and taped them to my college refrigerator... memorized them even.) he was a very delightful in person and in email... super cool.
this is for the geeks.. geeks like me who wonder how such beautiful and life informing music can come from such wonderful people working in such *ordinary* environments. enjoy, skip to the end, or feel embarrassed that i even recorded this. i did it for me - but if someone else gets some joy from it - that's beautiful and might even save you from dragging your kids half-way across the city of London on a family trip.
side note: i've not looked too closely at the lanner chronicle site - but I'd love any details about what was recorded here specifically. at first glance, it seems like he left around 96 (possibly due to noise complaints... which is funny because someone was blasting music on a street and i overheard neighbors on the sidewalk complaining about her)

This video was sadly deleted awhile but I loved his performance so much that I had saved the audio from it. I found it on a hard drive and had to put it up for others to enjoy as much as I do.

    Really cool video. I consider Worlock to be the top anthem of industrial music. It's not even close.

    Thank you. I danced all 7 of my babes to this song. "Wasted views That's all they see blue Hot blood guilt optic nerve With the right attitude You will succeed blue Self-abusive Recluse Too late for me Make Shifting peace Unsettling Crazy Doing crazy things Keep your eyes open Soft-spoken changes nothing A view so cruel A view"

      It’s just a logic string preset with a bit of reverb added I believe. Nothing fancy

  • @cameronv205
    @cameronv205 8 місяців тому

    I think the vocoder not only had the vocals but strings slightly processed through too which added neat character & layering to the chorus.

    • @lexaunculpt

      I believe it’s just a basic preset string sound in Logic. I might have added a bit of reverb but it’s probably just a default string sound.

    Did Banksy do that graffiti? It looks like his style. Also, I'm one of those geeks, who is 46 and has listened to Aphex Twin since the 11th grade. I'm jealous that you got to meet him and that he liked your music. That's got to feel amazing. Thanks for the upload. :-) I subbed to your channel because of Skinny Puppy. The fact that you like Aphex also just shows that you have great taste in music.

    Thanks for making this. I remember listening to Worlock in a car for the first time, and at first, it was just like OK, we're listening to some industrial stuff. Then the chorus (or whatever it is) comes in, and it's actually one of the most beautiful things I've ever heard, what with the synth stuff and then the vocoder line on top. Very brilliant stuff.

    Really fascinating look at the chords, with the tension and release between notes, i never consciously realized it but it explains why it's so sad. Was overjoyed when they played it live during the last tour. Here in Edmonton they also mentioned that Candle (their last song of the evening) was on the last album they made with Dwayne, and that they all missed him very much. 😭 Also, just beautiful string tones on your mini-keyboard. I wonder if there's any other stripped down synth lines or melodies from their songs you could isolate and/or look at? (Thinking tracks like Amnesia, Killing Game, Nature's Revenge, Harsh Stone White, Rivers, Cult; all the sad classics). 😢

      I once saw two industrial DJs get in a fight over this at a goth club. One guy was mad he was just letting it play out and tried to come in with another song. Dude just reached over and smacked down the fader for that CDJ. Then the black lace and foundation started to fly. Lesson, don't get too geeked up at the club.

    I remember the day after Dwayne passed. It was my second day using the "internet", actually America Online, and the first thing I did after signing up was look for a Skinny Puppy group. The day before, everyone was talking about The Process and what was going on with Ogre and cEvin & Dwayne, the next day, Dwayne was gone. I'd seen SP maybe 6 or 7 times by that point and Dwayne was the musical soul of their live show. cEvin made everything so powerful playing drums. Dwayne is sorely missed. R.I.P.
